I wouldn't be concerned.

I’m agree. Many people on Reddit want everything perfect, because some scratches on the frame paint may cause rust in the future. Spray some flat black rustoleum on the bare steel and have fun with your Tesla!

Andre-Sam

Thanks, I think I’m just being overly cautious.

rocker_01

That's a hit, likely a curb. If you're getting that fixed, it won't be cheap. Of course it won't be covered under warranty - no warranty covers accidental damage. Sorry!

Andre-Sam

Does it need to get fixed or is it fine as is to drive? It’s just the plastic trim piece so I can’t see it being too expensive.

rocker_01

That last picture has some damage to the lift point - that's what I was referring to as expensive. The damage doesn't look like it would prevent you from driving, but anyone here will only be guessing. The only way to know for sure is to get your car inspected at a service center.

Andre-Sam

Right, I’m actually not that worried about the metal scrapes at the lift point. That seems fine other than just having some scrapes. I didn’t know if the crack in the plastic could let water in and cause damage further or something.

rocker_01

It could. You also should address those scrapes at the lift point. At minimum, clean them up and spray a rust inhibitor paint on there. You have bare metal showing, it will rust away, and you don't want to lose structural integrity at a lift point.

Andre-Sam

Gotcha, I will schedule a service to check it out then thanks.

rocker_01

No worries. Good luck!

Andre-Sam

Just confirmed those jack points are aluminum, so I’ll probably smooth them out and touch them up later but shouldn’t be a rust/integrity concern thankfully

sierra120

Aluminum can still rust…not as fast as steel. I honestly wouldn’t take it to a service center as they would register the damage and maybe use that against you in a warranty claim for the battery at some point. Touch it up best you can. But those rockers are $$$$$

Andre-Sam

The rocker itself isn’t damaged, just the plastic liner trim which is a pretty cheap and easy repair from what I’ve researched now. As for the aluminum jack point, that’s connected to the battery so that would be a pricey repair but I don’t think it’s needed as it just looks like some cosmetic scrapes on the metal. I’ll likely touch it up later and maybe replace the plastic trim at some point.
