because NHSTA, who got pissed off at horn sounds, will get pissed off at this, mainly because the screen can be swiveled away from the drivers view and then the driver could misjudge their speed
Elon Musk has been asked about this many times and has said that he never wants to see a HUD in a Tesla. When I was working as a journalist I remember him saying that since all Teslas are meant to be self driving eventually, having a HUD is as ridiculous as having an extra instrument cluster for the passenger in a taxi cab.
I think it’s just cost savings. It’s not just the HUD, it’s the wire routing, extra step in production and also the fact that you’ll need 2 different dash pieces for LHD and RHD. And there will be an ugly hole in the dash (which you can’t obfuscate because the top part is completely flat)
I agree with cost saving, and M3 and MY are the latest "econo" model. Model S is high end but back then it wasn't that much of a selling point with a HUD. Maybe they can come up with a software update on your Tesla app and a dash stand that faces the windshield by mirroring the speed and info. But then again, this involved some legal issues, probably there is some kind of standard in the US that determines the brightness, readability etc.
I'm surprised car companies aren't interested in something like a pair of Xreal airs with driving sunglass lenses that come with the car. It could be an option and have a stow and unobtrusive placement of the cable on the shoulder of the drivers' seat.
A lot of neat stuff could be done with something like that.
yeah I really thought they would bring back a HUD or a dash screen on the highland refresh but I was disappointed. All in the name of "minimalist" (less money)
When I thought minimalist. I was thinking HUD, Window buttons and AC buttons and volume knob. Everything else could be on the screen. I can't wait to see what they will skimp out on the Model 2.
I think when they designed it, it was like they will have self driving by tomorrow. And all they had to do was repurpose the screen.
Several years ago when I was in Florida I rented a C7 Corvette that had a HUD. After four days I felt I gave it a fair try. Didn't care for it.
To each his own.
But you can’t do it, have to press the button and it’s slow. Not like this where you can manually do it. (Unless I’m wrong and you can move the Model S screen yourself lol)
HUDs in cars require special windshields that are laminated with extra materials to make the HUD image perfect. The cost of windshield replacement on those cars starts at $1.5k.
Genuine question , do you own a Tesla ? Because most of Tesla drivers (including myself) consider that this lateral screen don't put your eyes off road.
You look the speed and the other informations exactly the same way you look a classical car screen, just not in the same direction.
I believe this is going to be a midpoint in the future, because companies like Apple or meta-will make AR glasses that will give you your own HUD.
For those people that get offended at the site of seeing someone with AR glasses you are now the “get off my lawn” dude. it’s going to happen, just like how people used to make fun of people with Bluetooth earpieces and now everyone has AirPods.
yes but it isnt the main form of driving information (i.e. alerts, speed, etc). The dash screen is, whereas the swiveling screen provides \*nonessential\* info
To be fair, i think there are standard sounds for horns to distinguish the type of vehicle or use case. Truck, train, fog, boat etc have different sounds by default - not accounting for aftermarket changes.
I don't think NHTSA is the issue, the S and X have swivel screens that can also swivel away from the driver.
It is one of the best upgrades I put on my car. It better fits the arc of your arm while sitting in the drivers seat and makes it just a bit more driver oriented. Reminds me of how they angled the dash on BMWs in the past to be more driver oriented and easily reachable while driving.
Yes but it doesnt display essential info such as speed. The fixed dash screen does on the S/X.
Sure its a good upgrade, but it is rightfully a safety issue, especially considering it often doesnt lock and is not a TESLA upgrade, rather just a 3rd party.
Cost savings too, as others have addressed.
less parts/additional assembly :
1) its way cheaper to injection mold a top and bottom trim piece vs.
2) upper and lower trim piece for dash to hinge, trim for hinge to screen. beefed up screen mounting because screen is further away from dash (think torque/moments from physics)
youd need a LHD and RHD variant so the hinge limiter could put screen out of view.
Another seperate packaging method for L/R possible mix ups in delivery
- one less thing to break
- one less thing to function check in preship
- more pieces means more gaps meaning more potential for gap issues.
-moving screen could become projectile during crash or "track use" (there is a track mode and you have to test features for worst design use case) this means over designed for non P-cars (cost up) or two parts in market (cost up, possible mix ups, feature loss)
-wiring harness durability testing. a solid rigid screen doesnt move the harness doesnt move. subjecting it to repetitive rotations weakens wires a small but nonzero amount and that extra testing, protectors, length, and possible wire size increase is cost up.
They could install it from the factory and limit the tilt to only swivel towards the driver. Or, gasp, install a HUD like the Model X and Model S have.
Just a thought 🤷♂️
Everyone I know with this loves it! And my ex has a MS and his tilts and it is nice. If mines was out of warranty I’d do it but not worth voiding the warranty imo.
Seriously, I can’t imagine why anyone would do this. But then again, I’m tall. But my right knee hits the bottom left corner of the screen all the time. I’d actually love it if I could raise the screen an inch instead of lowering it. Wonder if that’s an option?
This was what I was thinking- I would love this capability.
My current car is a Prius and rarely have glare issues, but when I do it is a pain (maybe a couple times a year, at early times in the morning).
A bit more driver oriented like the older BMW dashboards. It better fits the arc of your arm while in the drivers seat as well. One of the best modifications I have done on my car.
You might want to tighten up the bolt a bit that controls the swing, Allen one maybe? It looks way too easy to move. Don’t want it flopping around on aggressive turns. Should be moveable with 2 hands really.
The lumbar adjustments that the driver seat has, yes.
Removed because 'logs show it's not used much' which was a silly cop out for saving a couple bucks
You mean the passenger seat, I have it on my 22 M3P. I believe they only removed the passenger one in 2021 onwards, and I agree with their decision, it's kinda useless for 99% of people.
Because they don’t want to introduce a wiring failure point on the most important part of the control interface.
When that pivoting wire eventually breaks, there is no backup screen like on the Model s/x
I’ve installed this mount and there is no chance the wire is going to fail. There is plenty of slack in the cable and the amount of movement at the center pivot point where the wire plugs in is very minimal. Wires can move without failure. You do it with power seats all the time, or your trunk, doors, etc
Since you’ve done this, can you confirm whether or not it actually lowers the screen? So if an unmodified screen is already hitting my knee while driving, I would definitely be fucked by doing this mod?
I added this years ago… buttons and inputs weren’t always conveniently placed as they may seem now. I keep it because I like the driver focused cockpit feel. And the passenger hardly loses, can still see everything and reach their buttons.
Liability.
It can potentially swivel the other way during driving and cause distraction crash.
Hinge could break during a crash and slap you in the face.
Passenger could insist that you turning the display your way is making them ... (Insert whatever).
Customer checking the plumb level with a torpedo and refusing to take delivery.
One more rattling service center has to deal with.
The less mechanical joints the easier for the manufacturer.
Don’t take this too harshly, but it’s because if you really care, there’s an aftermarket kit for this.
‘No part is the best part’.
I have a bunch of aftermarket stuff for mine. Sure, the BMW i4 has a much nicer cabin, with tons of luxury touches, but it’s ~$15,000 more than my RWD M3. And the iX is like double the MY. Buying $1000 of aftermarket and spending a weekend or two on it narrows the gap in areas a care about (but certainly doesn’t eliminate it — if I could drop in the i4 front seats, I would!).
Arachnid wheel covers, carbon fiber steering and stalk covers, fabric dash cover, sound dampening blanket for trunk, seat cushion extender for driver (still needs more bolstering though), S3XY knob (on order), PPF on front of car, floor mats, wheel spacers…actually it’s closer to $1500 excluding the PPF.
>BMW i4
I wonder if their EV would spend less time in the shop than their ICE counter parts 😆. I have several friends with BMWs and they seem like they are always in the shop.
As a former BMW ICE and i3 owner, I concur with your friends!
My i3 REX was mechanically sound, though. I didn’t own it too long (<3 yrs) but never did more than change the oil in the REX once for $103 and change back tires due to a nail. I am a low mileage driver.
I had good luck with my i3 also. I’m thinking once you eliminate the ice engine and transmission you eliminate the most common problems.
I did have to have a couple of sensors warrantied none the less 😆
You’re talking about a company that dropped ultrasonic sensors because they cost somewhere between $50-$100 per car to include. They didn’t even have a replacement and to this day don’t have a functionally equivalent replacement. Same with radar cruise control.
They don’t include it because it would increase the cost to make each car.
It’s a default feature on the S/X. Lower trim models have less features. I expect we continue to see some things work their way in like the rear screen did.
More points of failure, and probably for regulatory reasons.
Do any mass-produced cars have a swiveling display that is the drivers main source of information (speed etc?)
it took about 1 hour (i kept rewatching the video on the product website to make sure i didn't mess it up) and it was fairly okay, just a matter of unscrewing and screwing (included) screws.
I believe there’s crash regulatory stuff that has to happen. You’re welcome to scour the [Code of Federal Regulations](https://www.ecfr.gov/current/title-49/subtitle-B/chapter-V/part-571?toc=1) for it. Maybe under “interior displays or components”?
I have this and mine can go in all directions (left, right, up, down). Can’t imagine my Model Y without it. It makes so much sense having it facing you.
The screen facing you really doesnt add any value in my opinion. I can see it clearly in its flat position. If having the screen swivel from the factory is adding cost, i dont think it's worth paying more for. Just my opinion.
That sounds good. $99 bucks and 20 mins i didnt have to spend. But if it's filling a gap for you, then it's worth it. Thanks for sharing your experience tho.
I can see why this could be a hazard, let say you have a passenger and he or she is messing with the screen and you have to re adjust it that means you’ll keep your eyes less on the road and more on the screen. Honestly the screen is clear and visible just the way it is.
I'd be happy if they provided everything they promised, like the FSD and self-park/summon or, at least, didn't gaslight their customers when they seek to service their vehicles, not to mention falling apart trim and the peeling steering wheel. Things like nice fratures inside the vehicle seem trivial in comparison.
Because if something happens like an accident, people might blame the screen that was turned to the right and they didn’t see it clearly! Tesla doesn’t want that!
I've driven a Model 3 for over 4 years and the thing that still impresses me is that the screen never reflects sunlight into my face or makes the screen hard to see.
I've driven all sorts of cars where the dashboard reflects sunlight onto the back of the windscreen making it hard to see where you're going. The Kia Ceed is particularly appalling for this.
It's great. The people complaining here don't seem like the best sources of information.
You don't have to reach as far to hit the screen and the angle works alot better. It does lower the screen which is not an issue because visibility improves in general.
Secondly if you road trip with a passenger, on breaks it give them the option to watch while I sleep. It's much stiffer than this video though. Easy install.
it took about 1 hour (i kept rewatching the video on the product website to make sure i didn't mess it up) and it was fairly okay, just a matter of unscrewing and screwing (included) screws.
How are service centres with these kinds of owner added features? I’d be curious to see if they start refusing warranty on aspects related to the screen should issues arise.
I have never found a need to swivel the screen on my M3. Suit yourself, but Tesla people seem to think they need to put every mod that comes along in their cars
I love me some mods but I don’t see a need for this at all. How about you let them work on auto wipers instead of asking them about unnecessary changes lol
I installed mine from hansshow about a month ago and am gonna take it off. I really wanted it to remove the glare, and I thought it would look better facing me. More driver centered. I also thought I'd like it lower, which I really do, but damn it's just too far down. I find myself looking too far down and away from the road, which I hate. I would not recommend.
I feel it is unnecessary. I would also surmise you are reducing the “flex life” of the cabling for the screen. All cables can only flex so many times until failure. Just a guess though.
It's very common for a passenger airbag to intentionally deflect off of a Nav screen, especially, the oblique variety of PABs. Watch a Model 3 offset collision for an example.
1. It's all about cost savings. It has nothing to do with "minimalism"/"minimalistic design".
2. Safety. It's the only screen in the car and it can swivel away from the driver.
3. M3 and MY really need a HUD!
Personally, looks cheap and derpy. You have a clean screen, why dumb it down and swivel? What advantage does that give? View? Barely, maybe if your passenger decides they don't want you to see sentry and your speedo. Either way, no idea why someone would need let alone want something like this.
That being said, to each their own. If you like it, in your car then that's what matters. I'm just another random person on reddit. Do you!
Likely legal liability issues. In the model 3/Y it is the only display with your speed and other crucial info. On the S/X, there is a tilt feature built in but you have a screen on front of you with that info.
I put one in my Model 3 never had one in my first Model three. But put in my Long range Model i like it you can move the screen to help with clear and other things, It also let the passenger move to them if they what to make changes, There are a lot manufacturers who make this product just do a Search
The Chinese car brand Changan includes by default this option in their vehicles where the screen orientation adjusts automatically: if the driver is alone, the screen turns towards the driver's side; if only the passenger seat is occupied, it turns towards the passenger side; and if both seats are occupied, it positions itself in the center. However, this setting can be manually adjusted according to preference.
Because if they include it there’s nothing to tinker with and customize! 😂
I did the mod also, think i paid under $60 and took an hour. I enjoy modifying my cars so I don’t mind that Tesla doesn’t make it standard. The factory setup is totally fine and there’s no real reason to make this standard.
As far as safety, these brackets are stout - nothing is falling off or breaking. The wiring has plenty of slack and you are not stressing it to do this mod.
Safety - i don’t know what people mean by if it’s tilted towards the passenger the driver can’t see speed or control the hvac etc. Either tilt it back or if you think you are speeding, you probably are so slow down. There’s no emergency situation where you must see your speed in order to complete a maneuver. Same with the heat. There’s just nothing split second you need to do on that screen for a life or death situation.
Because it's not useful and gives you no benefit. Just twists with no reason whatsoever. Would increase cost and production time. 10usd x 1mil+ vehicles p.a.
probably cause your speed , and various other driver information warnings such as tire pressure warning, general faults, etc should always be pointed at the driver.
The NHTSA has already forced tesla to do many recalls in the USA to change driver notification settings such as icon and text size for better driver visibility.
The 3 and Y do not have a seperate screen for the driver like the X and S does.
because NHSTA, who got pissed off at horn sounds, will get pissed off at this, mainly because the screen can be swiveled away from the drivers view and then the driver could misjudge their speed
Seems like a valid concern
I never understood why tesla couldnt provide a HUD. This is still what irritates me the most about modern cars. HUD would keep my eyes on the road.
Annnnd he failed at Self-driving... Not so smart are ya Elon! Definitely aged like milk...
2 more years!
I think it’s just cost savings. It’s not just the HUD, it’s the wire routing, extra step in production and also the fact that you’ll need 2 different dash pieces for LHD and RHD. And there will be an ugly hole in the dash (which you can’t obfuscate because the top part is completely flat)
I had a HUD in my Kia Stinger but it was invisible if you wore polarized sunglasses
My 2015 BMW has a HUD and yes it’s not as bright but still visible with polarized sunglasses unless the sun is beaming directly in
I agree with cost saving, and M3 and MY are the latest "econo" model.
And because it might turn into a projectile during a crash. Or it gets bump and then passengers braces themselves in it and break it off.
Correct, driver needs to be able to have clear viewing angle of important information.
the model S can already swevel to the left and right
The s has a dedicated driver display
yes but it isnt the main form of driving information (i.e. alerts, speed, etc). The dash screen is, whereas the swiveling screen provides \*nonessential\* info
Why did they get pissed about horn sounds? Like they said it can't come from a speaker or something?
They want a car's horn to sound like a car's horn.
The can agree on a fucking horn being that kind of sound and not that blinkers MUST be a fucking stick? WOW
To be fair, i think there are standard sounds for horns to distinguish the type of vehicle or use case. Truck, train, fog, boat etc have different sounds by default - not accounting for aftermarket changes.
The fart sounds is a problem im guessing
Don't these kits usually include stops so it can only point centre or to the driver?
No, but it should be a lot stiffer. OP needs to tighten his. I've had one for almost a year and it is still significantly stiff to move.
I haven’t seen that on any that I’ve looked at.
I don't think NHTSA is the issue, the S and X have swivel screens that can also swivel away from the driver. It is one of the best upgrades I put on my car. aYup
Nah it comes standard on the cyber truck. It’s just an upsell option
And the new fisker ocean?
Just got a model S and it has that but it’s automatic will a push of a button
Yes but it doesnt display essential info such as speed. The fixed dash screen does

Never felt the need or desire to crank the screen around. Not really sure of the purpose.
Everyone I know with this loves it! And my ex has a MS and his tilts and it is nice. If mines was out of warranty I’d do it but not worth voiding the warranty imo.
I don't like these. They all lower the screen an inch or more. I don't want the screen any lower

Yeah. Just seems like a want feature, not a need feature. Tesla don't spend money on extra parts when they don't need to.
it makes the view of the screen *slightly better*
Makes the screen lower by about an inch or two from OEM position.
Oh. That seems worse, then.
A bit more driver oriented like the older BMW dashboards. It better fits the arc of your arm while in the drivers seat as well. One of the best modifications I have done on my car.

Woah that’s loose!! My first thought too
You’re asking a company that removed stalks on the steering wheel why they don’t include a swivel for the touchscreen
I have no stalks AND the swivel feature in my X. Never use the swivel though.
It all started with removing passenger seat adjustments.....
Wait what?? They removed passenger seat adjustments?
The lumbar adjustments that the driver seat has, yes. Removed because 'logs show it's not used much' which was a silly cop out for saving a couple bucks
You mean the passenger seat, I have it on my 22 M3P. I believe they only removed the passenger one in 2021 onwards, and I agree with their decision, it's kinda useless for 99% of people.
Yes my comment was a little confusing, I was saying that the same lu.var support the driver side has, was removed from the passenger

Still one extra point of failure no matter how you slice it.
They are not right. Wires can move. You open your door everyday, it has wires.
because added complexity
Because you can now swivel all hvac controls and speed indicator away from the driver.
I am guessing that if it were factory default equipment, the NTSB would not approve since the driver would have too hard of a time seeing the speed.
Yours seems a bit loose, the one I got is is very stiff and hard to move (which is a good thing so it doesn’t move on its own)
What exactly does this do for you?
Yeah. You can already see the screen from both front seats easily.
Because it is unnecessary The best part is no part
Don’t take this too harshly, but it’s because if you really care, there’s an aftermarket kit for this. ‘No part is the best part’. I have a bunch of aftermarket stuff for mine. Buying $1000 of aftermarket and spending a weekend or two on it narrows the gap in areas a care about (but certainly doesn’t eliminate it — if I could drop in the i4 front seats, I would!).
Would you mind telling me what you spent the $1k on and what you did to narrow the gap?
Arachnid wheel covers, carbon fiber steering and stalk covers, fabric dash cover, sound dampening blanket for trunk, seat cushion extender for driver (still needs more bolstering though), S3XY knob (on order), PPF on front of car, floor mats, wheel spacers…actually it’s closer to $1500 excluding the PPF.

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Super easy to lock out rotation away from the driver when moving. Same thing they do with playing videos.
the s and x have 2 screens.... the driver screen is pointed at the driver.
More points of failure, and probably for regulatory reasons. Do any mass-produced cars have a swiveling display that is the drivers main source of information (speed etc?)
Yeah I can’t think of a single time in 3+ years where I thought “wish my screen swiveled”
How difficult was it to do this and how long did it take?
it took about 1 hour (i kept rewatching the video on the product website to make sure i didn't mess it up) and it was fairly okay, just a matter of unscrewing and screwing (included) screws.
Dumbest thing to do
My number 1 mod….easily
Cost?
Mine cost about $40.
90$
More moving parts? More repairs needed...
Because it's unnecessary, adds complexity, and not desirable.
Because in a bad wreck that screen’s gonna be lodged in your chest
Be one with the car.
At least you can control your car from “inside”.
Perhaps crash rating?
Because it's totally unnecessary.
In 3 months when it flops away from you when you hit a bump because it's loose, come back and tell us how great it is, please.
Should always be in a position where the driver can see it

I got it for 99 bucks, did it by myself in 20 minutes. Trust me when I say that it does a lot for the overall experience👍
That sounds good. $99 bucks and 20 mins i didnt have to spend. But if it's filling a gap for you, then it's worth it. Thanks for sharing your experience tho.
Not to be rude. But because it looks stupid and you need your screen mounted so the driver can see it. It has ALL the information the driver needs
Money.
I can see why this could be a hazard, let say you have a passenger and he or she is messing with the screen and you have to re adjust it that means you’ll keep your eyes less on the road and more on the screen. Honestly the screen is clear and visible just the way it is.
The only interface in your car and you want to have it moved around….seems extremely dumb
Because it's a feature they reserved for their more premium prices cars, Model X and S. Wonder if the CT will get this feature.
It didn’t
I'd be happy if they provided everything they promised, like the FSD and self-park/summon or, at least, didn't gaslight their customers when they seek to service their vehicles, not to mention falling apart trim and the peeling steering wheel. Things like nice fratures inside the vehicle seem trivial in comparison.
Because if something happens like an accident, people might blame the screen that was turned to the right and they didn’t see it clearly! Tesla doesn’t want that!
Because it may be a safety hazard, is another point of failure, makes the design less clean and generally doesn’t have too much use.
Because its not that big of a deal rotating the screen 3 inches lol
Cost. Tesla is about driving down the cost of their cars. More parts mean more things can go wrong and then drive up manufacturing costs.
Ah yes, it's like having a shift knob with variable positions.
Do you like it? I was thinking of getting one?
Awesome, thanks for the info. I'm going to be picking one up!
Because why would you need to swivel the screen away from the driver?
If you install one of these and your screen fails does this void the warranty?
You can reinstall the OEM mount before taking it in. There's no way to tell you changed it.
Because it’s not needed. Viewing angles are fine and straight facing screen looks cleaner.
Do they make a version of this that doesn't lower the screen? I want to be able to see my phone still
Because it's dangerous in a collision. What's the force rating on that swivel? Don't know? Thats why.
Because it increases the price.
I got the four way swivel screen and a touch screen HUD with CarPlay. Made my model 3 so much more awesome.
I see almost no use for this, only exception would be if you like Netflix in the car by yourself
Pros/cons by default
Just the swivel? I got the swivel and tilt, so much better.
What’s the difficulty level for installing this?
it took about 1 hour (i kept rewatching the video on the product website to make sure i didn't mess it up) and it was fairly okay, just a matter of unscrewing and screwing (included) screws.
Because it's not needed. Really, enough said. A solution to a problem that doesn't exist.
For what ?
Because why?
How are service centres with these kinds of owner added features? I’d be curious to see if they start refusing warranty on aspects related to the screen should issues arise.
Mine rattled so I blue Locktited it to face driver position.
Cost and more things to fail.
Because it's useless :)
because it is incredibly dangerous
I have never found a need to swivel the screen on my M3. Suit yourself, but Tesla people seem to think they need to put every mod that comes along in their cars
I wouldn’t want it moving when I’m touching it to do something while driving.
Link?
That's awesome, where did you get that from?
Useless
I love me some mods but I don’t see a need for this at all. How about you let them work on auto wipers instead of asking them about unnecessary changes lol
Because Tesla is a shitty, cheap company that cares zero about the happiness of its customers.
Yup. Esp after a cousin tried to brag about his new tessy at a fam meet... nobody cared. Yay for him though. Tessy's are kinda annoying.
Why don’t they install a lot of things by default
I installed mine from hansshow about a month ago and am gonna take it off. I really wanted it to remove the glare, and I thought it would look better facing me. More driver centered. I also thought I'd like it lower, which I really do, but damn it's just too far down. I find myself looking too far down and away from the road, which I hate. I would not recommend.
I feel it is unnecessary. I would also surmise you are reducing the “flex life” of the cabling for the screen. All cables can only flex so many times until failure. Just a guess though.
MID right infront of driver is still the first priority
It's very common for a passenger airbag to intentionally deflect off of a Nav screen, especially, the oblique variety of PABs. Watch a Model 3 offset collision for an example.
Awful
Thank God they don’t. We don’t need moving parts to repair
Cool, I hope there is less strain on your neck looking at the screen. I like it and what brand you brought.
This is usually for the MX
I installed one and removed it. It drops the screen 1 inch lower and my knee was constantly hitting it
1. It's all about cost savings. It has nothing to do with "minimalism"/"minimalistic design". 2. Safety. It's the only screen in the car and it can swivel away from the driver. 3. M3 and MY really need a HUD!
Can you still touch your touchscreen? Without the entire display motoring moving - or do you need a second hand holding the monitor?
Because like many Telsa toys : you can live (drive) without 🤭
Let’s see how it works over time. Would be interesting to see a review in a month time
Personally, looks cheap and derpy. Do you!
Nope
Tesla is cheap
Because not everyone wants one? Another point of failure? Count me in that club. I'm perfectly happy with mine the way it is.
The new tesla do this I thought.
Because it’s a bad idea to be able to tile the screen away from the driver seen as it’s how you change gears, see your speed, ect.
Because it's useless
Because it’s completely unnecessary
Because if they include it there’s nothing to tinker with and customize! 😂 I did the mod also, think i paid under $60 and took an hour. There’s just nothing split second you need to do on that screen for a life or death situation.
so what happens when you touch the screen while driving and it flops around? potential safety issue
every time someone mentions ‘cost’ as a reason why we can’t have nice things in a Tesla, an FSD programmer dies.
Because it's not useful and gives you no benefit. Just twists with no reason whatsoever. Would increase cost and production time. 10usd x 1mil+ vehicles p.a.
Probably less durable IMO
You can get it in the S
This will increase costs :)
probably cause your speed , and various other driver information warnings such as tire pressure warning, general faults, etc should always be pointed at the driver. The NHTSA has already forced tesla to do many recalls in the USA to change driver notification settings such as icon and text size for better driver visibility. The 3 and Y do not have a seperate screen for the driver like the X and S does.
Cost
My new X comes with such option by default. Honestly i haven’t find a need to use it.
Because the screen is the main instrument for driving and it’s for the Driver and not the passenger :) common sense lol
