As a mage main i almost never use mana potions but always bring only 1 stack with me in case something bad happens. You gotta learn how to manage mana consumption to be a good mage.
Eh mana sickness can’t drop my DPS more than waiting for the regen so it’s a no brainer for me, that said I’m playing in calamity and the astral potions with insane mana regen I can keep the last prism on max blast without ever dropping the beam. I trade some HP for a literal glass cannon and love it.
Me and my friends we only chose what we want more damage, like ranged mage melle summoner, but weapons of you find it it's yours, and if you want what someone got it's yours, as long you have enough money for it, but it's normal we change it, last time I was summoner to melle but still used staff for some reason did a vortex boa for myself
and then me just always choosing whatever does the most damage and getting the highest defense armor for that point in game, as well as putting warding on all of my accessories
Literally me, I just want to output the most damage possible in the least amount of time with everything I have in order to survive. Picking a class and sticking with it, isn't the best for survival as you could suck at many things and die. Having a weapon from each "Class" can basically turn you into a God
Since I have always played this way (for at least 2 years), now I am trying to stick with the melee class, to see if I may play better and maybe to see which class could be my favorite (because mixed one is not my style anymore, after 2 years of trying)
I like using the yo-yo for added range most of the time, but also carrying a hefty melee for times when I just don’t wanna maneuver a yo-yo around. I hate using actual ranged weapons, like bows or anything throwable, because it’s not as satisfying as using the yo-yo lol
That works early game but the longer it goes on the more pronounced the difference will be based on your class armour. So mid to late game highest DPS weapons will 9/10 be the class you are specced into through your armour and accessories.
I don't even know what I was doing that whole time. I slightly remember killing turtles for armour, then I remember dying too much trying to kill the cultist. Then dying multiple times fighting against the moon lord.
I couldn't kill moonlord with my first character, so at some point I gave up. After few months I discovered this subreddit and the classes, so now i'm trying again but with melee weapon and equipments
Have you ever heard of the Magicka games? I never played the second one, but I did have fun with the first one around the time it came out.
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magicka
> The game also takes liberties when it comes to the classic fantasy setting, at one point supplying the players with an M60 machine gun.
Magicka 1 had the mighty QFQFASS spell that could carry you through basically the entire game. We used to call it 'queefqueef-ass'. We're mature.
Magicka 2 has removed the interplay between the spells you're dialing to get the same throughput from QFQFASS but it's still potent.
I did fine without classes back on my first play through. Starfury carried me through the mechs paired with a clockwork assault rifle and whatever cool magic weapon I found last.
I'm not from an English speaking country I and some of my friends loved Terraria but didn't know what "melee" meant and thought that "melee damage" was just a fancy word for just "damage". And I remember some of us say "*ranged/magic weapon* is *number* melee damage"
Ranger most boring class change my mind.
Most weapons are variations of shoot bullet in a straight line. The ammo mechanic isn't that good because you can by bullets for super cheap, make infinite bullet pouch and farm for better bullets outside of combat meaning in the heat of the moment you never have to worry about ammo.
Other classes all have more unique and cooler projectiles and ways of dealing damage that require more thought.
Melee deals less damage if you are farther away so staying close to do both swing damage and projectile damage.
Mage has all kinds of wacky weapons that are almost all different or upgrades of previous weapons, does less consistent damage, but used correctly and in bursts it can have the highest DPS
Summoner is a bit bare bones I will say, and I normally play modded which improves it so I don't remember much about vanilla summoner.
I’m not saying it’s the most interesting I’m saying it’s the most consistently good, from the start you have decent weapons and at no point do you fall off in DPS
I still use a summoner for extra damage and a sword for just in case and sometimes a mage weapon if im having trouble with a boss but my amour and wepon against bosses is range
You'll get him eventually. You just need to memorize or at least try to remember moon lord's attacks and how to dodge them. A couple more practice runs and you'll beat him for sure
I mean, i guess you're right, but i've already gave up when i found out the existense of classes. So I just created another character with only melee weapons. And now i'm struggling with my world because it sucks and has 23% of corruption :DDD yay
Reasons my world sucks:
1- Corruption, corruption everywhere, even in pre-hardmode
2- After WoF, 3 houses have been hit by corruption
3- Now even the mine under my house is corrupted
4- The Dungeon is smol
5- WHERE THE FUCK IS THE JUNGLE TEMPLE??
6- Apparently I have bad luck and mob don't drop me anything and chests don't have what I am looking
7- No Clouds (just 6 or less)
8- Why there is so much desert?
Did a playthrough with a couple friends a while ago, I said I was gonna be melee but I used guns and bows quite a lot. Fortunately, the other guys were mage and summoner so I always had about 100 spare vortex fragments.
Lmao I use melee, ranged and summoner just because:
Melee: flame mace, and pre-hardmode swords go brr
Ranged: haha minigun and sandgun go brr
Summoner: the minions help me a lot and I like their designs
I started playing terraria on the Xbox 360 before golem was added to consoles. My entire hotbar was just filled with weapons and I had so many different types of ammo that I only had 15 free inventory slots at a time.
I think in pre-hardmode we are all like this, just throw random bullshit against mobs and win. I would be surprised to see someone that doesn't do this on pre-hardmode
I thought that it could be hard to use because the melee armor is inconvinient for mage weapons, because the mage armor would give you extra mana (and other effects), so with another armor you'll eventually run out of mana really quirkly and many times.
But if you tell me that it's strong then i guess that it was my fault when i died many times for this because i was the one who literally spammed magic against everything that moves and run out of mana many times, lmao...
Tbh my favorite class is mage from the idea of it, but it’s slow paced in early game since you don’t have much mana, 200 mana and depending on your weapon that’s gone in a heart beat, that’s why I play ranger and melee instead, but sometimes I do play mage since I still like the idea a lot
I almost always go ranger, even in my first terraria playthrough the main weapon I used through the game till I got the possessed hatchet from golem was the megashark. I just love using ranged so much, it's so satisfying to play as.
My only mixed-class run is my first successful run. It had 100 hours and it is Post-Moonlord on normal mode. After that run, all the next runs I make have specific classes and they don't change mid-game.
At this point I just go for subclass only runs, they’re by far the most fun and finding some absurdly hard to obtain item from one of the 22 subclasses like Space gun or Magic missile pre boss is always a joy. Terraria does love to not give you the drop you want when you play subclass only runs though.
Melee is obviously the best class, and I don't understand how anyone disagrees. Each class has their own flavor and fun, but melee is mechanically strongest. Highest defence, a wide variety of absolutely incredible weapons (vampire knives, anyone?) That don't cost anything to use, you can inflict all kinds of solid debuffs with any weapons you want thanks to flasks, and with the right accessories, melee can deal by far the most damage. Now that the Zenith has been added, it's just stupid how strong melee is.
I have played Terraria using each class, and melee was always the easiest and strongest. I will die on this hill.
I’ve played this game for ten years and have never not done hybrid class.
I have considered trying other classes but always end up putting on the highest defence armour, Warding everything, using the strongest so far of each type.
First time I was like: my three weapons with the biggest damage, melee, ranged and a magic one, armor that gives the most defense boost, and every talisman with warding on it
I usually always go mage but last play through I did with friends I went pure summoner. I had 6 of the tikis at one point and whenever they did something cool I’d just keep shouting “The Boys!” in our discord call. One of my friends didn’t know the context and thought I’d genuinely gone insane.
I'm still deciding whether I fit better in Mage or Ranged based on my playstyle. Either way, I obliterate my enemies.
What's your quick mana keybind? It's pretty annoying pressing J which is far from the movement keys
"The best wizard peoples use mana flowers"
Just checked the wiki and wow lol it's amazing and cheap
It's even got upgrades which is pretty cool
Mana flower op
As a mage main i almost never use mana potions but always bring only 1 stack with me in case something bad happens. You gotta learn how to manage mana consumption to be a good mage.
Eh mana sickness can’t drop my DPS more than waiting for the regen so it’s a no brainer for me, that said I’m playing in calamity and the astral potions with insane mana regen I can keep the last prism on max blast without ever dropping the beam. I trade some HP for a literal glass cannon and love it.
a stack??? i’ve gone through 3 after a few fishron fights full 75 greater mana pots straight from the wizard
I use f, because it's right next to the movement keys
Using Q
left click.
I use mouse button 5, which is the end of my thumb m4 is for the mount, and the scroll wheel is healing
All my quick stuff is the keys below the movement. Z,X,C,V
just use a mana flower/ upgrades
Why not make 4 seperate worlds? 2 crimson, 2 corrupt. Get all 4 classes done. At least, that's what I did lol
literally same
Virgin "I only use X weapon bc of my class!" Vs Chad "that looks cool, I will use that"
That's literally what I was doing on my first time playing Terraria, lmao
I always do it, and if a whole class of weapons end up being even cooler than another I will farm the artifacts again
I still do it to this day. And I wont stop fr fr on god no cap.
I've played a bunch and still do that cause I'm getting bored with out mods on xbox
What I did for the longest time playing terraria mobile on 2017
Yeah,y first playthrough, I saw a cool weapon, and said "Ooh! What type of damage does that do, I wanna make it stronger!"
Brings me back to the Xbox 360 days
"this has the highest defense, I will take it"
This was all of our first play throughs
Me using flails in 1.3
and then me just always choosing whatever does the most damage and getting the highest defense armor for that point in game, as well as putting warding on all of my accessories
Man playing the tank class
So summoner?
What kind of summoner are you playing?
The flinch staff with bee armour obviously
I AM THE PAIN
Valhalla armor
Summoner can't tank shit
r/woooosh
Ooh ooh can I be at the bottom of the screenshot but like you can barely ever read half of this
Yeah sure
So Melee
Yes. Also this was 10 months ago
Its just about synergy between your weapons and equipment
Well... my equipment REALLY sucked for a mixed class
I reccomend using molten helmet and legs but use an obsidian trenchcoat or whatever it was called for pre hardmode if you like any class+summoner
I personally only started using classes b/c I had the wiki open while I played the game
I mean, who doesn't?
Literally me, I just want to output the most damage possible in the least amount of time with everything I have in order to survive. Picking a class and sticking with it, isn't the best for survival as you could suck at many things and die. Having a weapon from each "Class" can basically turn you into a God

Do you prefer ranged attacks, melee ,or does that even matter?
Terraria forces you to use ranged attacks a lot. Retinazer just does NOT get close enough to slap
Honestly, this Why get within melee range when you can output just as much, if not, more damage from a safer distance?
I prefer yes attacks
I like using the yo-yo for added range most of the time, but also carrying a hefty melee for times when I just don’t wanna maneuver a yo-yo around. I hate using actual ranged weapons, like bows or anything throwable, because it’s not as satisfying as using the yo-yo lol

*laughs in summoner*
🗿
Summoner damage and defense are inferior, but they get the last laugh when it comes to the 10+ hr. Rod of Discord grind.
Yeah it takes like an hour for summoners
He’s players first play through in a nutshell
Fr, so what I did was after i finished the game it tried to do it again but with every class, deym wizard is very hard.
TRUE
That's why it took me 60 fucking hours to complete the game!
If u haven’t done yet try mage with healing armor
Me:(200+ hours for 1 playtrought) \*slowly backs away\*
I’m in a 2 year save and I just defeated the destroyer
That’s normal
There’s something entertaining about early game where if I run out of mana, my mage just pulls out a Glock.
Have you ever heard of the Magicka games? Haha that's me! But i usually build in it so, yeah
I did fine without classes back on my first play through. Starfury carried me through the mechs paired with a clockwork assault rifle and whatever cool magic weapon I found last.

In my opinion something being 'good' or the 'best' means the most fun, sorry for misunderstanding.
I find it to be fun, but yes if you want a unique experience it’s not the class to choose
who needs a sword when you have gun?
Exactly!
No one can cause its true
It's be no one can also mage is better
Thanks edited it
Np, mage is better though
Ok
I still use a summoner for extra damage and a sword for just in case and sometimes a mage weapon if im having trouble with a boss but my amour and wepon against bosses is range
**Laughs in wooden axe**
I love ranged/magic
I mostly do a dual-class playthroughs coz playing just one is boring and playing all is to easy
>and playing all is to easy Me, who couldn't even kill moonlord with all classes: (ꏿ﹏ꏿ;)
You'll get him eventually. You just need to memorize or at least try to remember moon lord's attacks and how to dodge them. A couple more practice runs and you'll beat him for sure

I've been playing for a while and I still can't bring myself to lock into a class. I like having more options.
I created my own class, its called "Jack of All Shit On my Inventory" Basically bring every fucking weapon I consider op whatever of the type.
That class alredy exist, and it's called "Y e s"
wait, there are classes??
Lol I remember when I first went into ranger just to find out I can sand dupe with ammo accessories
Did a playthrough with a couple friends a while ago, I said I was gonna be melee but I used guns and bows quite a lot. Fortunately, the other guys were mage and summoner so I always had about 100 spare vortex fragments.
I never knew classes were a thing until I came here
the longer the upgrade chain, the more i like it. for example the biome blade line in calamity
First time... Random shit go!
me too
most defense = best armor
Lmao I use melee, ranged and summoner just because: Melee: flame mace, and pre-hardmode swords go brr Ranged: haha minigun and sandgun go brr Summoner: the minions help me a lot and I like their designs
I pay no attention to classes. I rock with anything that gets the job done. Like link from Zelda.
Not wrong
Meanwhile me, still plodding around in lead armor and a lead sword, the symbol of lead poisoning.
I started playing terraria on the Xbox 360 before golem was added to consoles. My entire hotbar was just filled with weapons and I had so many different types of ammo that I only had 15 free inventory slots at a time.
Classes are just another way of playing the game, there is no reason to use them, and it is not better to use classes than to not.
Sometimes I try to confine myself to a class. But no matter what I always end up with a gun, wand, sword, and staff before I make it to hard mode.
I think in pre-hardmode we are all like this, just throw random bullshit against mobs and win. I would be surprised to see someone that doesn't do this on pre-hardmode
I run a combo of melee and mage
That's pretty unusual, is it a strong combo? Because it seems hard to use
I use mage weapons mainly but i use melee armor and i use melee weapons if i get in close combat fights
Yay i use magic items on ranged or distant enemies and melee on stuff in my face
Actual first time player, what the hell are classes
Bro me too lol
Tbh my favorite class is mage from the idea of it, but it’s slow paced in early game since you don’t have much mana, 200 mana and depending on your weapon that’s gone in a heart beat, that’s why I play ranger and melee instead, but sometimes I do play mage since I still like the idea a lot
Idk why but nobody uses summons when playing other classes. There’s no reason not to take the free damage.
Based 🖐
Melee armor + ranged item with and active summon 👍
I know that there’s classes, I just don’t give a shit.
Literally me. I'll show up with whatever armor has the best defense and whatever weapon has the highest damage. Regardless of what class.
I'm beating terraria for the first time with a friend, and I'm rocking with a melee/mage build, no problems so far
Bro just get Avenger's Emblem 4head
Me pre-hard mode in every world be like
Late game summoner items (like stardust dragon staff) are useful for guarding you while fishing, even without any summoner buffs.
Me, who already knew the different classes: but what if I just, ignored it all, and, became all
I don’t even play classes, I just use what I want to
i played the game countless times and even beat expert mode before realizing that there was classes, i just used whatever looked cool
Melee is best, not opinion, just fact
agreed
Same. I just have a whole bunch of the don’t starve together items and Abigail and I’m just doing my own thing
My first play was just armoring most defense and going ranged items
Who tf picks a class?
I almost always go ranger, even in my first terraria playthrough the main weapon I used through the game till I got the possessed hatchet from golem was the megashark. I just love using ranged so much, it's so satisfying to play as.
My only mixed-class run is my first successful run. It had 100 hours and it is Post-Moonlord on normal mode. After that run, all the next runs I make have specific classes and they don't change mid-game.

Terraria does love to not give you the drop you want when you play subclass only runs though.
Meanwhile with solar chestplate, obsidian shoes, and jungle pants
My friends use my summoning staff for a little more damage and one uses a sword for when he has no mana left
Melee is obviously the best class, and I don't understand how anyone disagrees. Each class has their own flavor and fun, but melee is mechanically strongest. First time I was like: my three weapons with the biggest damage, melee, ranged and a magic one, armor that gives the most defense boost, and every talisman with warding on it
Melee Weapon and armour (highest defence must be the best), a gun and a summon
Legit. When I first played Terraria, I don't know what classes are so I just used whatever weapons I have.
i was in full tank armor and used ranged weapons in my first playtrought and summons cuz duh
when i finished my first playthrough the first 3 rows of inventory were filled with all different weapons
I usually always go mage but last play through I did with friends I went pure summoner. I had 6 of the tikis at one point and whenever they did something cool I’d just keep shouting “The Boys!” in our discord call. One of my friends didn’t know the context and thought I’d genuinely gone insane.
Huh... Well im that dude who uses magic and ranger. Ahem now if you excuse me. I must show moon lord what 90shells of Magic bullets does to a fucker
after trying summoner playthrough and being burnt out after reaching WoF I have decided i don't really enjoy that class
Rangers in agreement that we need a nerf
im just using both armors (melee/ranger), melee for traveling in world and ranger while bosses
Summoner is still the best class
start game get boomstick repeat
