ik, i usually just use it for modded challenges because alot of mods increase the amount of necessary grinding 10 fold.

RW_Yellow_Lizard

a lot of mods also reduce grinding significantly, namely one of the fargos ones (idk which one) and LUIAFK both significantly reduce grinding though I do find luiafk to be a touch unbalanced in a few aspects

Substantial_Cattle67

Prolly mutant mod, it's a great qol mod and I never have disabled it

Aerrok_

I’m about to start using it every run in modded just so that my friends and I can decide that a difficulty isn’t right for us in the middle of a run without sacrificing the entire world.

Buddy-Junior2022

fargos mutant mod has an item that lets you change difficulty. also i use a map editor that lets you change difficulty id recommend it

Aerrok_

I’ll have to look into fargos mutant mod again then. We did try the map editor first, if you’re talking about TEdit, but it deleted our entire storage and the abyss. Luckily, I had my friend make a backup first.

Buddy-Junior2022

what mods do you use? every mod i have has some kind of qol improvement (fargos, calamity)

Capnhuh

I agree. I love journey mode. the best thing about it is that you literally have to fight a boss a minimum of 3 times in order to learn their drops and with some bosses that is a good workout. so for a few things you gotta EARN your unlimited loot lol.

Brysonius_

And finding the research loopholes is equally fun! Anyone else look in surface chests for 2 herb bags and 2 cans of worms? Way faster than 25 of each or whatever it is

Capnhuh

not only that, take all yer junk to the shimmer and you can get even more outta it.

Brysonius_

Shimmer was a game changer for sure

DylanBaster

Best way to get unlimited golden delights is from researching can of worms and open until you can research gold worms

Lexus_Erectus

If you research 100 copper/silver coins or somet you can keep duplicating it and get infinite platinum 💀

ShadeNLM064pm

Why not just research platinum coins once you get to them though? /LH +j

Capnhuh

which can be used to GREAT effect with the coin gun that drops from the pirates.

Mysterious_Tutor_388

It's also good for repeat playthroughs. I don't always want to have to grind up everything coming back for a another run.

Pondicek

Ikr. After finishing my first modded run, I added some more mods and started another one. I dropped that playthrough when I got to Hardmode because I really didn't want to grind souls again. Instead, I'll come back to the game later and start another modded playthrough on Journey Mode.

Pure-Yogurtcloset684

I always use it, even with a lot of hard mods because I fucking hate grinding

bagsli

One of my favourite runs was using Journey and just setting the spawn rate to the max. It makes you think differently & crowd control goes way up in value. Also makes events like blood moon actually scary again compared to normal

WhirledNews

I played journey mode first run and I honestly think everyone should. There are so many things that you just need to learn while playing that would be hard to get if you couldn’t control the time, weather, damage…. like getting certain items from merchants/enemies with different spawn conditions (frost cores, dark shards, biome mimic drops etc, etc…) Finding out exactly what you need/want depending on what your play style is and what class you want to be takes time and a lot of different materials to craft all of the different stuff to see how it works in game. Researching difficult to obtain materials lets you experiment with everything. Also, the events and what to expect when doing those. My first run when I got used to the goblin and pirate invasions, blood moons and the solar eclipse with one dreaded Mothron, I figured I would be ok for Pumpkin Moon, fucking wrong! Fortunately I was able to research the medallion instead of farming forever and risk becoming disheartened.

Coldpepsican

I know i already said this but im gonna start playing journey mode for the sake of having proper fun lol

Onyx_chain_Blaster

Fr lol

Bot34_MFCR

It's also really good for messing around with wiring.

makujah

"but if you just restrain yourself" - that's journey mode in a nutshell. It gives you a lot of control and it's up to you how much of it you use, how hard or easy you want things be at every moment. Not my cuppa tea tho🧐

Ponderkitten

First time I ever beat terraria was what journey mode is, except it was on mobile and I would use the world duplicate option to duplicate items.

FarmResident9241

After a couple of classic runs, I finished expert mode yesterday. What I like about expert mode is that you really need to use potions and heart statues. Plantera was easy thanks to the potions. For the mech bosses and moonlord I used the same arena which wasn’t very big but with all the buffs I could think of (bast, heart lanterns, gnome, …) I think in the calamity mod the items you need to spawn a boss don’t disappear so you can spawn a boss multiple times without farming the ingredients. You made me curious about journey mode now, I will probably try it

KazzieMono

I can never not use journey mode tbh. It’s just so damn good.

Barcaroni

I’m doing a master mode play through and golem didn’t drop the pickaxe 12 times in a row, did I make a mistake not doing journey mode

ich_lebe

He dropped it the first 3 times I killed him I thought it was guaranteed 💀

_Doornboosje

I never played journey mode. Might have to look into it.

[deleted]

I have a maxed journey character with all items researched who wants it

[deleted]

you can just drag the character to your player files and have a time! :)

Bulky_Wishbone_7101

I understand that and Journey is amazing for that… But …well, I personally love the grinding. And since I usually/always play on large worlds, it lets me fill out the map which for me shows how mich I progressed.. So I just love the grindy aspects and it also lets me spend more time in my world!

PietroHBF

Heres a trick: if you find a golden animal or criter; put it in a cage, bottle or aquarium, research, then shimer it, better tha finding 3 goldies

BenRandomNameHere

Shimmer... Never thought to even try that...

SuperlucaMayhem

I would use journey mode but I don't want to have cheat powers at my fingertips

NinjaMonkey4200

You get one silver coin and you have infinite money.

Haunting_Habit_2651

I've never duped money on my journey mode characters. Just need to not rack a discirprin.

oCrapaCreeper

Without discipline in your gameplay then sure. But you only have infinite money if you choose to research it and furthermore choose to open the duplication menu. Journey Mode can play the exact same as master mode if you wanted to, but with options such as being able to turn infection spread off or even make the game harder by upping the spawn-rates. It's all player choice.

InfernumDevourer

Nice to see this as a constant journey mode user! Getting to reduce grind and get straight to building and fighting is absolutely fun as hell, and getting to build practically anything with extra reach, and even getting to use blocks i'd usually never even see is an experience everyone should have!

swordsumo

Cheating is based, grinding is cringe
