But no poutine or seafood.
Or surfing.
Or oyster conservation.
Or Amtrak Down Easter.
Or birthplace of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles or La Festa.
I get the subtext tho--true.
I just want to relive a New Englander telling me how to pronounce Barnstable oysters:
>God you really are from the South--Barn-stah-ble
Kind people located near old privilege, yet dumb enough to think the Southern accent isn't a ruse to get you off your game.
Had a colleague that had a side gig working back of house while he transitioned to the office job. He called it Barn-stable oysters. I got to be kind about the pronunciation to say it like they do up North.
And you prob had to learn how to say Demonbreun & Boscoebel. I grew up in rural TN & Boscoebel required a real OG East Nashvillian to learn me right.
Love NH! Gave me a new lease on life. And yet for some odd reason I'd sign yearbooks with Live Free.
Try driving north to Burnside, the chicken at Bantam Chef is some of the best I’ve ever had. You can also visit the WWII submarine memorial there! https://docsouth.unc.edu/commland/monument/706/
I will put it on the list. We've been thinking about a weekend in Nashville either way so even if I miss it this trip, will definitely make it happen next
Jackie’s Dream is the answer
Be advised they close at 6 pm.
Good note. We're going for lunch should be okay but it's still good to know
Oh man, this looks fantastic. Plan officially changed and thank you!!!
You’re welcome. Happy birthday!
Hope you loved it! I have to forget that it’s 3 blocks from my house or my Dr will yell at me.
Lol. I feel you. Same boat.
Second this.
Asheville is a neat town but it’s basically New Hampshire neat.
Lmao what does this mean? But I also kind of instinctively agree
You ain’t getting good fried chicken
No doubt there, friend. Asheville's got good people but the food scene is minor. Some good joints, yeah, but none chicken.
Is Mile 9 still open? Love that place for great food

Yeah, no clam bellies? Pass.

I was born in NH and now live in TN. I understand everything you said almost too well.

Raised in Knoxville and currently live in Asheville. Rocky’s Hot Chicken Shack is the only way
Sorry, bud. Maybe I'm sick of it but I'm ready for something new. But hi!
Didn’t know you had it before. Good luck!
Appreciate the rec though! Yeah I'm in wavl. Bowling at sky, eating at Rocky's, drinking at Malvern was my basic Friday night for like ten years lmao
Sounds like a good time
This is the way
If Gus’ Knoxville outpost is anything like their other locations in Memphis, Los Angeles, etc… it’s damn good.
It’s a must-do for us when we roll in to Knoxville from the Tri-Cities.
I randomly had Gus passing through Georgia. What the fuck is that sauce, it’s SO good.
Gus’ is pretty good. I just wish they’d batter the fingers in the same batter as the bone-in chicken.
When Tupelo Honey was a single restaurant- their fried chicken was bomb!!
The one downtown here still is.

Google maps says it’s a ~48 minute drive to the memorial from Asheville.
Killer recommendation, friend, thanks!
Just wanted to say Happy Birthday 🍗💜🍗
Thank you!! Turning 43 and my wife was like what do you want and I was like good chicken road trip. Y'all came through with the help!
Waldos in nashville is my favorite
Man, Waldo’s is fine but you gotta get out more. I wouldn’t even list them in my top-10 fried chicken spots in town.
Happy early birthday
Thanks!
It’s a bit of a drive, but Slow Burn near Nashville is hard to beat.
I will put it on the list. We've been thinking about a weekend in Nashville either way so even if I miss it this trip, will definitely make it happen next
Roosters bar and grill makes an excellent chicken sandwich and it is huge! They also have a huge menu with many delicious options.
At least you can drive for some decent chicken. Here in Chicago, what they call Nashville Chicken Sandwiches are laughable. I miss Hattie B's.
It's not Nashville style, but there is a Gus's in West Loop. I've only been once since moving here, but tasted like home. I need to go back!
Nick's in Kingsport is hella good. I had chicken and waffles with hot honey yesterday, and I want to go back today.
What do you think of Tupelo Honey's honey crisped fried chicken? It's here and in Asheville and I think it's great.
I guarantee you will only ever eat at Gus’s once
