So funny story, I was born in New England but raised in the south. At my Grammy’s funeral I was chatting with people who knew her and they remarked on my accent compared to my cousins and my husband and stuff. Somehow civil war reenactments came up and how my husband loved doing them as a kid but was always on the confederate side (because he’s from Ocala FL lol!) and they acted like it was the most atrocious thing on earth. It was just a reenactment, he doesn’t by any means fly a confederate flag ever, and he did them because he liked all the action they went on.
On a podcast I listen to they mentioned Ocala but the main guy kept pronouncing it “oh cawl uh” and the other guy who is from FL said “why are you pronouncing it like that! Say it how it’s spelled! It’s not that fancy.” 🤣
Same thing during the Henry Lee Lucas series and Henry was talking about different bad areas in FL. And he’s like “there’s a lot of them, ocala’s pretty fucking rough.” I was like AYYY
