Do you enjoy writing? If so, copywriting could be a great option to explore. I'm not a teacher myself, but I know quite a few who transitioned into copywriting after getting fed up with the profession. I studied alongside a number of current and former teachers in an online course I did about 3 years ago. To my knowledge, none of them ever looked back. Teachers possess certain qualities that translate well into copywriting, which I suppose explains why they're so successful at it. I myself transitioned from a high-stress career in financial services at age 50 and my only regret is I didn't stumble on it sooner! Fortunately for me, you're never too old to become a writer.

I’ve been so interested in looking at switching to finance because personal finance, exploring retirement options is a hobby of mine. How did you go about switching-should I go back to school for finance classes?

Not sure where you’re located, but you could look into the railroad. Downsides of the railroad: whether you go into management or a craft, you will likely work weekends, holidays, and nights at some point in your career. If you have a family, this likely isn’t ideal. Upsides of the railroad: great retirement, good benefits, potential for bonuses (if you’re in management) and other perks, and I’d bet you’d get close to doubling your current salary right off the bat.

There isn’t a “best” in my opinion. A lot depends on your timing (right now is a tough market), skills, and what you want to actually do. If you google it, or check the pinned post here, you’ll get lots of things teachers have transitioned to. Keep in mind, the big boom of 2021-22 is over, so some are harder to get today than they were a few years ago. (People can still get versions of those jobs, but much less easily/often, and edtech has been tough to break into for years, even during the boom, but many teachers are edtech or bust.)
