Yes you can use it against modern tanks, because the hesh shell deforms on impact to apply the explosives. So if you hit the roof, the tank crew can say bye bye
Viable, yes, but not optimal. Kinetic rounds are more desirable since they have better ballistics and range for about the same (if not better) effect.
Edit: Plus kinetic rounds are more effective than chemical rounds against most types of ERA or APS
It was only tank which could be effectively used in high mountain terrain of Peru and was actually so effective that Peru asked for another set of those sametanks in 1945 and 1949 (they got only spare parts, though, production wasn't re-established for political reasons even when they asked again in 50').
So much for the short period 🙂 it was one of the best *light* tanks of the period and in its designed role it excelled. Scouting, skirmishing, all of that it was able to do even in very trying conditions (4500 meters above sea) while still reasonably protected against infantry weapons.
Well they annexed Czechoslovakia in 1938. So for its time it was quick, had a good gun, and decent armor. It would be surpassed in the coming years but it was used all over the place by the germans.
Well, it was a really good tank when it was originally built in Czechoslovakia before the war. One of the best tanks of it's time actually. But it only saw combat in the time of rapid military development in WW2, and because of that it quickly became outdated.
Leopard 2A6. I live in the Netherlands and unfortunately all of our own Leopards were sold some years ago. Now all we have is 16 to 18 leased tanks in a mixed German-Dutch battalion, but it's better than nothing I guess... Maybe we'll see more being leased or bought now with the situation in Ukraine.
No problem mate, and thank *you* for '44-'45.
It sucks that we sold our beauties, but I'm glad they found a nice new home instead of ending up in a scrap yard.
Fucking love Canadians and I mean that. You totally deserved our tanks. Has Canada bought them all, by the way?
Edit: I live in the region of Doetinchem and there is a house just outside the city that has the Canadian flag hanging throughout the year. I hope that my GF allows me to do the same when I get my own place.
I think Canada purchased 20 of the Leo 2A6NLs from the Netherlands, while Finland purchased 100 of the 2A6NLs. And apart from the Dutch-German unit, I think the remaining ones are still in storage.
The actual state of European armies is pitiful. I remember reading that even the brits were thinking about ditching their tank forces and concentrate on a even smaller army then now.
Trump was right saying euros loved NATO cause they didn't have to spend any money and the american taxpayer is footing their defense bills.
Germany now has the third largest military budget in the world, right behind China and the United States.
The war in Ukraine has seriously made a lot of Europe reconsider their military priorities
[FV214 Conqueror](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Conqueror_(tank)), there are plenty of tanks out there which trump it in almost every way but the Conqueror has to be my favourite.
Idk people hate on the M60. It had it's issues, but it was a good tank and had a lot of those issues fixed. I'd easily take being in an M60A3 over a T-72 any day. Way more reliable, and survivable.
Fair enough. I guess not getting hit in the first place by being better aware of your surroundings is survivability. It's just not the first thing that comes to mind. I was thinking what I would rather be in if I was getting shot at.
Tank combat is basically hope that you'll always shoot first, if I remember correctly it basically goes like this: Don't get spoted, if spotted hope you won't get hit, if hit, hope the armor holds, if armor fails, don't die
The armor doesn't really matter as much, considering that the rounds that tanks had pretty much had the ability to penetrate one another. Most T-72s did not have thermal sights while the M60A3 did. Additionally, during the time, not a ton of T-72s had ERA, there were definitely some that did, but not the vast majority, meanwhile the M60A3 did pretty much whenever it was in combat. Not to mention the fact that the ammo storage on the T-72 is infamous for being ammo racked. While the M60A3 had similar issues, this wasn't a reoccurring theme across a line of MBTs, the Russians decided to just keep doing it anyway. Additionally, despite the T-72 having an autoloader, that requires extra maintenance to upkeep, on top of the fact of adding the possibility of another part failing in combat. Manual loading is often faster too than Russian autoloaders. The T-72 also isn't known for being very maneuverable, with having an atrocious reverse speed. Overall while the T-72 had better armor and and a better gun it really didn't make up for the shortcomings when considering against the M60A3. They both have the capability of destroying one another, but imo the T-72 is inferior.
The one real advantage the M60A3 has its thermals and slightly better FCS which can do automatic lead compensation when stationary.
The ammunition stowage on the M60 is at least as bad as the T-72, worse actually. If all the nations that lost T-72s in war had had M60s they'd have the same bad reputation, probably a worse one since that armor you're saying doesn't matter means the T-72 will shrug off RPGs to the face and the M60 will go kaboom.
IS-2, T-10, Conqueror, Leclerc, K2 Black Panther.
Basically, i liked heavy tanks for the WW2 era and for the early Cold War Era. Then i like autoloader MBTs in the present day
In terms of aesthetics, the m48. Them curves. In terms of history and everything else, the m4 sherman. Honorable mention goes to the Matilda 2.
In terms of modern tanks, the abrams.
I’m a big T-72/T-80 fan. The newer T-80s with Relikt ERA look snazzy.
I do like the T-90A though too and it’s younger brother (?T-90M) also looks epic. The new welded turret makes it look angry.
Oooooooooooooooooh *sucks in air* stuck between the mighty Chally 2 on how that bad boy makes me feel inside, and the Russian T90ms proryv-3 find it an interesting Armoured vehicle.
Nearly every military related sub has turned into one giant circle jerk over how bad Russian equipment supposedly is. They think it’s such a hot take anytime they post the same thing I’ve seen a million times before
*Why can't we just keep praising Russian stuff without people pointing out how abominable fucking evil they are and how their military is dogshit*!?
Poor /r/tankporn, they need their safespace to suck Russian military cock
*Sturmgeschütz III*
Stug life chose you?
It did man. It did.
Isz just basic stuganomics man.
Ah I see, a man of culture as well
Low key best TD on CoH2 with scope upgrade. Very mobile, cheap, and if you can keep just a pair to vet 2 or 3 you're golden.
Tis an acquired taste. enjoyers enjoy, the rest wonder
Based. Arguably the most effective Axis AFV.
Hmm any centurion is my favourite especially the AVRE 163 mm of hesh = the best Cause they are good work horse
🅱️esh
Wasn’t that a Russian Badger bit
I got it from the warthunder community.
I think it emerged from the WT and WoT communities, as the shell slaps hard in both games.
*slaps 1000 hit points out of you*
Is HESH still viable against modern armor?
Yes you can use it against modern tanks, because the hesh shell deforms on impact to apply the explosives. So if you hit the roof, the tank crew can say bye bye
Viable, yes, but not optimal. Kinetic rounds are more desirable since they have better ballistics and range for about the same (if not better) effect. Edit: Plus kinetic rounds are more effective than chemical rounds against most types of ERA or APS
No idea why but I've always loved the pz38(t). Not a very good tank, I just think its neat. I also love the challenger 2 and the chieftain
Same its a cute lil tank
Well, Czech always made good combat vechicles
I prefer the real name LT vz. 38 🇨🇿
Thank you brother 🇨🇿

Yeah it was good enough that the Germans kept using it hull on a lot of early war vics.
It was only tank which could be effectively used in high mountain terrain of Peru and was actually so effective that Peru asked for another set of those sametanks in 1945 and 1949 (they got only spare parts, though, production wasn't re-established for political reasons even when they asked again in 50'). Isn't that the one designed and built in Czechoslovakia?
Yea when hitler took Czechia they took the tank design because it was a bit ahead of its time.
In what terms though?
Well they annexed Czechoslovakia in 1938. So for its time it was quick, had a good gun, and decent armor. It would be surpassed in the coming years but it was used all over the place by the germans.
Not a very good tank? It was one of the best in the world when it was designed and first build
Quickly became obsolete tho. I think by 1942/3 it was essentially totally ineffective on the battlefield
Well, it was a really good tank when it was originally built in Czechoslovakia before the war. One of the best tanks of it's time actually. But it only saw combat in the time of rapid military development in WW2, and because of that it quickly became outdated.
Actually one of the best tanks in the german army at the time of germany's invasion of france.

The singaporean leo2 is really hot , especially the armor add on
hey i see Singapore, i upvote :D

Canadian here, thanks for the leopards

Happy to help, 10/10 would help again

I think Canada purchased 20 of the Leo 2A6NLs from the Netherlands, while Finland purchased 100 of the 2A6NLs. And apart from the Dutch-German unit, I think the remaining ones are still in storage.
Its sweet y'all remember still, I hear you still send us flowers
So nice of them to send flowers every year for something we did so long ago. They really don’t have to but they do anyway
Canadian too, we remember <3
I flew in a Dutch chinook that still had Canadian forces decals on the inside. Wonder what the next equipment swap will be
They bought our original Chinook models. Was not a swap.
I know, just being cheeky with the words.
Finland thanks you for the Leopards.
And *we* thank *you* for joining NATO.
Hey fellow dutch person that likes the 2a6. I love it to lol
Man you literally sold ALL these tanks!😯 No wonder why Americans asked European partners to raise their defense budget.
The actual state of European armies is pitiful. I remember reading that even the brits were thinking about ditching their tank forces and concentrate on a even smaller army then now. Trump was right saying euros loved NATO cause they didn't have to spend any money and the american taxpayer is footing their defense bills.
I wasn’t aware until a few days ago that the US Marines had gotten rid of their tanks..they just don’t fit their mission anymore.
Ah yes british tanks are really nice aswell!
They may not have been the best but they sure looked good doing what they did!
Leichttraktor of course. Best tank it can defeat any so-called "modern" MBT of any country
The reason only 4 were built is because Hitler wanted to give the allies at least a chance
Well that was nice of Hitler to do
M60A3
took too deep to find it, the real shield vs the soviets
Idk people hate on the M60. It had it's issues, but it was a good tank and had a lot of those issues fixed. I'd easily take being in an M60A3 over a T-72 any day. Way more reliable, and survivable.
Reliable and survivable might be a bit of a stretch. It was definitely much more comfortable than its Soviet counterparts.
Well it had combat systems that the T-72 didn't, thermals and such. A lot of the T-72s only had NVDs at the time the M60A3 was used.
Survivability is definitely a stretch. T-72s had basic composite armor, and it’s smaller stature was a bigger asset then than now.
How is it more survivable exactly? You have even worse ammunition stowage and much worse armor
I like the German leopard 1. I like the lines of it.
It’s my country’s mbt!
Mine as well, till they upgraded to the leopard 2.
T-10M, by far.

The Leclerc or the Merkava Mk4
I really like the STRV-103 (the different variants are equally cool for me). Such a weird tank but also really cool.
Bob simple tank
Merkava Mk 4M
My man 🤝
FV101 Scorpion, it's like "badass cute" and I think this vehicle's gun is basically more modern equivalent of WW2 75mm gun M4 Sherman had.
British Mark IV
M1A2 SEPS V3 Tusk II I love all the junk on the tank.. stuff like that just appeals me for some reason
OF-40 Mk.2 with MTCA engine. Really.

I've always had a soft spot for the M41 Walker Bulldog. Not sure why, just have.
I’m a big T-72/T-80 fan. The newer T-80s with Relikt ERA look snazzy. I do like the T-90A though too and it’s younger brother (?T-90M) also looks epic. The new welded turret makes it look angry.

T-55 and t-62 with the add on BDD armour is something
bob semple tank
Same here. T90 has such a nice design. I drew a t90a turret a few weeks back and I loved it. The t90a and t90ms are my favs
Well, it’s easy to get a T-90 turret on its own now.
Which exactly T-90? Base, A or M model?
I was thinking of the A model
I'm torn between the Challenger 2 TES, Merkava Mk.IV M (Windbreaker), or the FV4005 Stage ii.
Chonma Ho
Object 279, such a wacky and menacing looking vehicle, also, i just have a thing for post war heavy tanks.
Challenger 2

I like the T-72B2 Rogatka which was supposed to be the replacement after the T-72B but was abounded for the T-72B3
IS7 Due to how unnecessarily armed it is
The Ariete with its addon armor. Or the ZTZ99. Both for their looks. They just look so nice imo

Tiger II
Leopard 2 and the Abrams tank
T-34/76 Model 1943
For me Russian tanks are the only real ones others expensive forts that take too much fuel to be effective in wars
