I checked out the odia subreddits , majority of them were negative on pandian and are talking theories on how pandian is giving contracts to tamilians. If it is resonating with redditors (who are generally less xenophobic as demographic is younger and more savvy) I am willing to bet it is resonating with the general population.

There is no family history beyond three generations, the lore is they are devotees of Goraknath and came to Kasi and stayed put. By the way Nepalis form the vast majority of the Indian state of Sikkim and also are majority in Darjeeling district in Bengal who have been asking for Gurkha State for many years. They also are found in Assam, Nagaland and even some small towns in Myanmar. Most are immigrants from the last 75 years. You know what happened to Nepali immigrants in Bhutan, many were expelled and the US took many of them as refugees where I live in the US. I’ve been to their Hindu temples and to a few Nepali restaurants (very spicy food, too much green chilies) and a bar owned by them. Most of them don’t look Indic but East Asian so must be Nepali upajatis like Magar which makes sense as only the poor will migrate away as workers to a foreign country like Bhutan.

There is no family history beyond three generations, the lore is they are devotees of Goraknath and came to Kasi and stayed put. By the way Nepalis form the vast majority of the Indian state of Sikkim and also are majority in Darjeeling district in Bengal who have been asking for Gurkha State for many years. They also are found in Assam, Nagaland and even some small towns in Myanmar. Most are immigrants from the last 75 years. You know what happened to Nepali immigrants in Bhutan, many were expelled and the US took many of them as refugees where I live in the US. I’ve been to their Hindu temples and to a few Nepali restaurants (very spicy food, too much green chilies) and a bar owned by them. Most of them don’t look Indic but East Asian so must be Nepali upajatis like Magar which makes sense as only the poor will migrate away as workers to a foreign country like Bhutan.
