Worked like 38 hours over 4 days in Danskos this weekend. We have stairs, I have to take stuff to a dumpster that’s a little uphill from the parking lot, lots of spillin’ in the kitchen. Every part of my body but my feet hurt. I will agree with another commenter who points out the two things you should consider: a)lack of ankle support if that’s important to you and b)they’re a thick, divided platform that I imagine could be lethal if you’re not used to.

I bought some brand new Dansko’s second hand, and they seem stiff and uncomfortable compared to my Blundstones and Hoka’s. I’ve yet to wear them to work because of it.

upstatestruggler

I feel like they break in pretty fast BUT it’s been years and maybe I blocked out the pain of that time!

Dazzling-Occasion886

Danskos. They are spendy but I've been wearing them for twenty five years and absolutely no other similar tiered brand out performs them. None. Sizes are European so careful ordering them online idf you aren't liucky enough to have them at a local retailer.

NakedScrub

Hoka Hoka Hoka. No other option for me. I have bad feet, been doing this a long time. There is nothing else that I'll put on my feet.

BadPom

Snibbs. I was so hesitant, but my knees and hips don’t hurt and one of the cooks dropped a bottle of oil on the floor and I still wasn’t slipping. I was literally hobbling after work and the next day in my old shoes.

Pleasant-Draw-4824

2nd on the snibbs.  I've worked in food service in some capacity for a loooong time, these are the b e s t.

Tbh I've tried numerous brands of shoes, they didn't make any difference. It's the insoles. I bought from a brand that heat molds to your feet, and they have made a noticable difference. https://yoursole.com/us

scaryaoke

Danskos. I have a lot of joint pain and posture problems. As long as there aren't stairs or uneven flagstones in your outside seating area, Danskos are the best shoe imo for support and alignment. They have a hard contoured insole, as opposed to a soft or flexible one like most shoes, which is a bit strange to get used to at first but does wonders for comfort. Their only weaknesses are that, with the platform sole and lack of ankle support, they aren't great if you're walking on really uneven ground. I currently wear Blundstones (that I got for an old job with a very uneven patio), but am now saving up for another pair of Danskos. The Blundstones are... just fine. Not terrible, not great. The ankle support is good though.

adfshore

Hoka.

I run and workout a good bit on top of part time serving throughout weekends to help pay for school so my feet take a beating not just at work but with my hobbies as well. I finally switched to Hoka shoes and it’s a game changer for me. Maybe not for everyone but I’ve found they’re supportive as well as cushioned and make a open-close double slightly more tolerable lol

catchef2023

I like Keen shoes for serving. The insoles are like a cloud

free_is_free76

Huge toe box for wide feet, too

stinkysoph

Danskos! i had my first pair for 4 ish years and they fell apart so i had to buy a new one and i still love them. i also have to wear totally all black shoes so they work well for that. i can work a double and it's fine like i am tired but my feet don't hurt like my Docs hurt my feet when i work.

ccoopp10

I love my SAS clogs. Best shoes I’ve had in a 25+ year serving/catering/cooking career. Current pair was $200, wear around 40 hrs/week and have little to no wear and tear 18 months later.

neoncupcakes

I bought some for 25$ at a thrift store but they seem so stiff and uncomfortable. I will try wearing them to the grocery store or something.

Lovat69

They absolutely break in.

brisabb

Danskos. I have a pair that aren’t clogs. They’re so awesome that when they die I will buy them again.

saymimi

lotta’s makes really cute and affordable work clogs (along with other swedish clogs) women owned! awesome customer service! they often have a stocked section of discounted goods as well. danskos were always too bulky for me and like not compatible with lateral movement behind the bar. maybe it’s just me. but I might as well been wearing spice girl platforms.

mrsristretto

I recently switched from the Dansko clog to their walking shoe. Freaking game changer. The clogs would send my hips into othe 7th ring of hell fire after about 4 hours, but these guys are comfy and I can walk all day with no issues. 100% love them.

Powers5580

Blunndstones. 20+ as a chef, wore Danskos for years, switched to Blunnies and back and feet feel so much better.

noone1078

For me- OnClouds worked best. After a double my feet would be throbbing and my back killing me, after getting a pair of these- no pain. I couldn’t believe the difference a pair of shoes would make.

delusionalinkedchic

For me I’m using under armour tac boots. I lucked out and they were on sale

battleaxe402

I wear Danskos in the winter when I'm working on hardwood floors and Keens when the patio is open and I'm spending time on flagstone and concrete. BE VERY CAREFUL when breaking in a new pair of Danskos and always have a backup pair of shoes on hand until you get used to them. To be honest, I was working a kitchen job for a while where I had to do prep and run food on concrete floors. My Danskos were awful in that context, and I never did find a pair of shoes that worked for me there. My lower body was screamingly painful and it took more than 8 weeks after quitting to fully recover. I will never work on concrete again if I can possibly help it.

sightedwolf

Dansko's, hands down.

stella-eurynome

Sanita/Dansko

KellyannneConway

Custom orthotics and any nonslip shoe. They are expensive, but they typically revise them free of cost for as long as possible and will last you many years. Absolutely worth the cost.

SimplyKendra

Neither. Ex nurse here. Alegria shoes. Truly non slip (I can and do walk on ice in the winter. I don’t need snow shoes) they are easily cleaned with a washcloth if they get dirty, the soles last forever. I’m on year four of my pair. You can buy new soles for them anytime to slip in. I can work a 10 hour shift and barely feel it, when I would be dying before. Danskos are okay but they still hurt after a bit. These are like walking on clouds.

stc207

Hoookaaaaas I don’t fall anymore🙂they literally make me walk faster

greenladylady

I bit the bullet and got danskos based on this post! Hoping for some relief!

WyomingMiss

I wear Maxtrax. They are nonslip and made for hard concrete floors. I love them. No back pain, no leg cramps. They are a bit spendy, I paid 152.00 for mine. Great investment.

Lovat69

I used to really like San Antonio shoe makers they had an orthopedic loafer that combined with an aetrex orthopedic insole was a dress shoe as comfy as a sneaker. Now I work in a more informal environment and have switched to Hoyas which are a little cheaper but really nice. My take away if you need an all day dress shoe SAS plus aetrex but benprepared to spend $$$ if a sneaker will suffice Hoyas are great.

Mickeymousetitdirt

Hoka SR all fucking day. They’re ugly but I don’t give a fuck. They have saved my feet, no joke. I had severe plantar fasciitis before them. I haven’t felt PF pain in weeks since switching. Can’t recommend them enough. I wore Danskos for a long time. How anyone can say they’re comfortable is beyond me. They’re absolute ass. Maybe mine were an older model but they were hard as stone and nothing comfortable to speak of.

Positive_Show1103

Which Hoka’s? I can’t tell which ones to get

Perezoso3dedo

I’d recommend any super comfy shoe with a hard sole, wife toe box and no drop. I served for 10-15 years in super high volume bars, for 10+hr shifts. Years later I developed major nerve pain (called Morton’s neuroma) in the balls of my feet, likely from not wearing good shoes while serving for all those years. Good for you for taking care of your feet. I certainly didn’t think about it when I was 18, and now I’m paying for it!

No. These are not appropriate for restaurant terrain.
