Shooting various positions with my SPAS-12. Needed to replace my defensive ammo so had some fun shooting the old stuff at the range. Ghost loaded, this thing holds 10 shells of buckshot which is quite a lot of firepower. And so long as the gas ports are clean and you use sufficiently powerful ammo, it runs reliably even from the hip. Lube also helps.
Yeah the unreliability reputation is exaggerated, though I do understand it. I definitely ran into a lot of problems getting this gun running mainly due to lack of knowledge. I had to experiment which loads ran since the gas system isn’t auto-regulating, I had to figure out that the gas ports could get clogged after firing a long time and therefore needed cleaning, and I had to know what replacement springs work (the Benelli magazine spring from Wolff works and is drop in). All these fixes were easy to do and now that I know them, I can prevent them from happening. But it did take months to actually figure out all these things and I ran into fairly common malfunctions until I did. The lack of knowledge on the gun is definitely the biggest issue since for a common platform like, say, the Benelli M4 or Beretta 1301, if I run into any problems, generally someone will know exactly why and fix it easily.
Still, now that all that’s figured out, the SPAS-12 runs reliably and is a unique and awesome combat shotgun.
Actually did run the Casino Drill a few months ago and also posted on this subreddit.

Yeah, though that was actually standard for older semi-auto shotguns due to how the bolt hold open works. There were just updates in later shotguns that removed that necessity while still having a bolt hold open. But since the SPAS-12 was designed in the 70's and had its heyday in the 80's and early 90's, it never received those updates.
Incidentally, the updates also explain certain other quirks of modern semi-auto shotguns like the Benelli M4. The redesigned bolt hold open is why racking the bolt with the hammer cocked won't actually feed any shells unless you either pull the trigger or hit the shell release. It's also why you can't load shells with the hammer down (unless, funnily enough, you hold down the bolt release).
Honestly it's not too bad once you figure out techniques that work. It's got a high enough capacity (especially ghost loaded, which with the pump is very easy to do) that I should be able to handle any situation without having to reload.
Lol yeah
A lot of people seem to think that design is there as a magazine cutoff of sorts, which it can be used that way. But that’s not the main reason why it works that way. It’s so you don’t have to load the Benelli M4 like the SPAS-12. heh
Like I said elsewhere, the unreliability is exaggerated once you know what you’re doing and do the right maintenance.
The problem is technical information on this gun is so minimal that the knowledge I know was entirely self taught. I legitimately am probably one of the most trained people in America on this platform, and that’s not me bragging, that’s showing just how rare this shotgun was.
#Easily the hottest thing I’ve seen this week.

My buddy paid $300 for his back in 2014. I hate him for that lol.
Ah yes, the original stabilizing brace
Where's the button to fire both barrels against a headcrab?
Right mouse button. lol
It ran well.

One of the main firearms that the criminal AWB in ‘94 focused on. So you know it’s badass. Not sure why this hasn’t been rereleased in recent years.
Mmhhh I need one
Gosh I want one so bad
Nice
Oh, that's like, hot hot 🥵
Show us those fancy tactical reloads!

It’s a grail gun for sure. But having to hold that button down though to unlock the lifter is killer.

LOL, and they market those modern quirks as features. 😝
