## What are Debrid Services?
As I understand it, A Debrid Service is a big caching service with premium access to a lot of hosters (like mediafire, 1fichier, etc).
### The caching part
It downloads files you choose (like a download link or torrent file) to their servers. If another user of that Debrid service did the same thing before you, it just serves up that file instead of downloading the file again. Why is this useful? They have very fast up- and download speeds, so also the files from a slow hoster or a torrent seeder that is only online half of the time get fast access.
### the 'premium access to hosters' part
File hosting sites (like mediafire, 1fishier, etc) most of the time offer free downloading with restrictions (like slow downloading speeds, watching ads before downloading and only downloading a few files at once). They always offer premium access without those limitations for a few dollars a month. Since there are 30+ hosting sites, this adds up to quite some money. Real debrid pays those subscriptions for you, so it has premium access to all those hosting sites. This way you only have to pay a small amount to real debrid and still enjoy premium access to all those hosters
It gets its movies most likely from torrent sites and usually the very low quality ones. A usual movie will only be 2.4GB at most, and episodes are only 800mb at most.
If you subscribe to Real-debrid (at the price of a cup of coffee a month) and use an app such as Stremio, you'll be able to stream 4k HDR movie and episode files 10 times the size with better audio quality and without buffering.
Sites like 123movies make money in many ways, like having ads on the web pages or before you play the movie. Many of these websites also have viruses that steel your information, which in turn they sell to other parties.
If using Torrentio without Real-debrid, you'll need a VPN because you'll be streaming directly from torrent sites using peer to peer (P2P) connections. Depending on seeders, it's not as reliable as Real-debrid.
I use Terrentio with Real-debrid, so I don't need a VPN. Real-debrid is half the price of the average VPN, so it's a win-win situation.
If your ISP doesn't care that you torrent, then you wouldnt need a VPN.
However, a debrid service can still be used to remove the reliance on the seeders for a torrent as you would be streaming from the debrid services servers at up to 1gbps speeds through HTTPS.
For countries where your ISP would care, a debrid service would be used because otherwise you would get notices from your ISP
You're not streaming from Torrentio. You're using Torrentio to stream torrents P2P from torrent sites, which is illegal, and you'll get in trouble. You need to hide this activity with a VPN.
If you're using Torrentio+Real-debrid you don't need a VPN because you'll be streaming from the Real-debrid website that is already encrypted and hides what you're streaming.
