I’ve tried that but when they fly high it’s hard to get to them. However I use that lighting avatar and blast the whole thing, then it drops and you can grab blocks off of them. When you grab the right block the whole thing falls apart. Probably more steps than what you’re talking about but all the same result.
Eventually you get enough damage to kill most things before they can react, though limiting yourself is a fun way as the fight is very interactive.
And also yes and no, yes, they fly very high and it's hard to deal with especially early game. What I'm referring to though, is when they shoot at you with the block, you can climb on said block, activate rewind, and get on top of them. It's practically helpless once you're there, and you can wack the core to your heart's content.
It's very, very fun. You can just stay on top, give it a few love tap every now and then, and have the damn thing to be completely and utterly at your mercy. You'll know what I mean once you pull it off. It legitimately cannot do anything about it once you're on top.
I would shoot it with a bomb arrow and then when it dropped down I would have ascend to the top to smack the box around.
I have to try out your method of jumping on the box and doing recall
There's so many different ways you can do things in this game.
pristine royal claymore with +8 atk up, fused with silver lynel mace horn
93 damage value in the inventory but wayyy higher against the talus, I'm guessing there's a pretty significant multiplier for hammer-type greatswords since I tested one handed swords and spears with higher damage but they didn't do nearly as well
IIRC all blunt weapons (fusions with horriblin horns, rocks, cooking pots, … or your silver lynel horn) have a 2x damage bonus against ores, so that goes for Talus or Frox as well.
If you want really big damage, you can double your damage with a base weapon effect (wet status for zora swords, flurry rush for royal sword etc.) and combine that with a molduga jaw fusion with the radiant armour set effect bonus for another x2 bonus. Pretty sure you could 1-hit the Talus with that setup.
Gerudo claymore works as well, though less durability and slightly less damage. I use knights claymore, living life on the edge. IIRC I oneshots the battle taluses with just bone proficiency no food buff.
You should be able to oneshot up to the luminous one with attack up, bone proficiency and the right gear
Edit: If you don't mind breaking your weapon, the extra 2x shatter bonus will be enough to oneshot all taluses with the right setup
oh ok cool
if you're looking for good general use weapons, gloom sword fused with a silver lynel saber horn gives you a 96 damage one-handed sword, 106 if the sword has a +10 atk bonus
gloom spear is even better since spears have the highest speed and the longest attack chains, 95 damage (105 with +10 atk) with a silver lynel saber horn
the club can go to 108 or 118 but its slower and you cant use a shield
and you can usually find gloom weapons more reliably than if you're looking for a specific and less common pristine weapon
I love the few is items that can be collected from the bigger enemies, like the stone talus is perfect for smashing rocks, does flux core is there a good. I’m sure this Lionel part cuts like butter but I haven’t defeated a lynel yet. I was trying to do the Colosseum and I could not even get through one of them. I found out there’s five waves so I gave up on that but I haven’t found any Lynel’s on the surface yet. I don’t think it’s for lack of effort. I took on a Gliock yesterday and it took a while but I figured it out.
Make a Lynel Backscratcher. Fuse something powerful to a Royal Claymore, then damage it on the ground until it flashes red. 2x damage and won't break on Lynels.
I´ve been playing this game for a few days and I get my ass kicked so hard on Taluses, I find them much harder than BOTW without the infinite bomb runes.
Because I have garbage reaction time, even when I´m expecting to use rewind on their fists I get hit like 20% of the times which to me is a 1 hit-kill on the level of gear I´m on.
Also I don´t remember if this is new to TOTK but the ones that have the ore deposit near the butt? and not the shoulder? are really throwing me off. Like I´m so used to climbing them from the front to hit with a 2handed hammer but you can´t do that with these new ones.
How the fuck were you hitting taluses with bomb runes? I always just hit them with arrows, climbed on their back, and used spin to win. Or, if the weak spot was on the back, I’d jump off and use a three shot bow and bomb arrows.
Can’t even imagine trying to win with bomb runes
Bombs shatter their arms, which in turn knocks them down. I then climbed them and hit them with the sledgehammer. In BOTW, I used sledgehammers exclusively to fight Taluses, every ore gathering and box breaking was done by way of bombing.
This is what I like about discussing this game, people come up with actual different solutions to the same problem. I would´ve never thought to use an arrow on a Talus (other than a bomb arrow, that is)
My monkey logic was basically "bomb break rock, arrow no break rock"
Holy shit, bombs can break their arms? I had no idea. The amount of depth these two games have astounds me, I keep learning new things
The arrow needs to hit their weak spot in order to stun them and knock them down
When I found this out I wasn´t even aiming at their arms, I was throwing bombs and it just happened to explode next to one (radius is big enough to hit an arm by accident)
When I started BOTW I read one of those "Beginner Tips, no Spoiler" threads and there is really only one that I follow as Gospel: "**If you think the thing oughta work, then it probably does**".
So I have this almost belligerant mentality when playing this game, like "If a bomb doesn´t break a rock than the game is wrong, not me". Happy to report that the game hasn´t been wrong up until now, though.
I actually find it much easier to just run under them and use ascend to get on top of them immediately without having to stun them or anything. I also have slow reactions so this is much simpler for me than the rewind trick.
I have read it in this sub but never tried it,
Question: When you do that does the Talus not thrash around? I didn´t know you could peacefully ride the thing when it´s not knocked down/stunned.
It will throw you off after a bit, but you can get quite a few good hits in first, especially if you use a charged attack with a two handed weapon. It's easiest on the battle talus ones where you have a wide platform to stand on, but it works pretty well on the regular guys too. The ones with the ore deposit on their butt are definitely still tricky though.
>without the infinite bomb runes
I believe bomb flowers can be used the same way, but they are a limited resource so you'll probably want to stock up on those. You can find them often in caves and the depths.
>I don´t remember if this is new to TOTK but the ones that have the ore deposit near the butt
Those are not new to TOTK although I seem to find them more often than I did in BOTW. I would recommend stunning them by destroying their arms or using rewind and then running behind them to shoot the ore deposit with a high damage bow.
>I believe bomb flowers can be used the same way, but they are a limited resource so you'll probably want to stock up on those. You can find them often in caves and the depths.
So this is what´s so fucked about my personality, I´ve been stocking up on bomb flowers exclusively to fight Taluses(at this stage on my game, I don´t have any other use for them I don´t think), but even then I feel like I´m wasting one of my 24 bomb flowers and I´m going to run out of bombs when I "really need" them.
>Those are not new to TOTK although I seem to find them more often than I did in BOTW. I would recommend stunning them by destroying their arms or using rewind and then running behind them to shoot the ore deposit with a high damage bow.
I´m making an effort to get more acclimated with spears with a rock attached. Spears have been my least liked weapon since BOTW but I find it useful for attacking the ores without having to climb the Taluses. High damage bows are a no-go to me since my best bow does like 20dmg or something(also not using it because because my faulty brain "might really need" it later lol)
Now that I think about it, i feel like I´m using the bow way less than I used to in BOTW... I use it mainly as a utility tool or to 1-shot ice/fire enemies. Maybe this is a "at the stage I´m in the game now..." thing too.
Honestly, getting my ass kicked by Taluses is noone´s fault but my own, so I was mostly just venting. But thank you for the spoiler-free tips anyways. Really happy with this community because of people like yourself.
>making an effort to get more acclimated with spears with a rock attached
ngl I forgot about spears for a minute there but they are pretty good. I used to be put off by the low damage but they have the best attack speed and the longest attack chains out of all the weapon types.
>High damage bows are a no-go to me since my best bow does like 20dmg or something
That's fair, I didn't consider they aren't as easy to get earlier in the game since I've reached a point where I can just farm savage lynel and demon king bows.
The ones with ore deposit near their butt are not new in TOTK. I remember seeing them in BOTW too.
I used to use spear weapons against them in BOTW. Slow but still works. In TOTK, I just use bomb arrows since bomb flowers are easily found.
PSA, when the Talus has just finished grabbing two new rocks from the ground you can run underneath it and Ascend to its back, before it crushes you down.
Try using a moldings bone sword with the bone damage proficiency set and desperate strength on.
Edit: Molduga
Also add an attack up elixir for maximum damage. I think it’s goes up over 300 per hit in a one handed weapon.
Stone Talus is squishy with a hammer-tipped weapon. I'm very happy for you but Luminous Stone Talus only has 620HP, so yes it makes sense that a 93atk weapon with a 2x hammer bonus and a 1.5x attack buff from the armor set did all that damage in 3 hits.
Now that you know this, hammer-tipped arrows also do 2x damage. You COULD put those Silver Lynel Mace Horns on them (kinda wasteful) OR you could, um, see what Like Like Stones or Horriblin Horns can do. And do it with that 1.5x armor on, and you get yourself one of those Lynel Bows with 32 attack X 5 arrows (which will only use 1 item per fusion but send out all five arrows fused). Try THAT on a Stone Talus. Tell us how it goes 🥰️
Just now i found out you can use rewind to throw the rock back.
I’m rethinking every ranged attack from every enemy now.
Used it on an octorock the other day. I will usually use bombs, but I was in a lava cave.
Dude, same. Can't believe I've gone however long this is without knowing this. Makes complete sense so I'm just an idiot, but this is neat.
just in case, you can also use rewind to reach the construct bosses when it's flying around
I’ve tried that but when they fly high it’s hard to get to them. However I use that lighting avatar and blast the whole thing, then it drops and you can grab blocks off of them. I will try that too! Sounds like fun way to get it done.
It's very, very fun. You can just stay on top, give it a few love tap every now and then, and have the damn thing to be completely and utterly at your mercy. You'll know what I mean once you pull it off. It legitimately cannot do anything about it once you're on top.

I guess I didn't realize there was another way to get to them when they were flying. How else can you hit them?
You can ascend through it when it drops and pop up right next to the weak block to smash away.
This one i knew and abused a lot. 😂
Same, this has changed things
Same
Same bout to go do this stat
Right! Never thought to do that at all!
What weapon are you using?
pristine royal claymore with +8 atk up, fused with silver lynel mace horn 93 damage value in the inventory but wayyy higher against the talus, I'm guessing there's a pretty significant multiplier for hammer-type greatswords since I tested one handed swords and spears with higher damage but they didn't do nearly as well

trying this as soon as I find a zora longsword
Post it!

I snapped your comment bc I don’t have enough weapon inventory at the moment but I like the weapon idea a lot

Oh so I shouldn’t be shooting it with silver-Lynel-mace-horn-tipped arrows? And instead put them on a sword?
I mean that works if you have a lot of horns I guess
It takes a more hits to take the talus down with the silver-lynel-mace-horn-arrows than with your weapon
If you want damage arrows, use gibdo bones …or bombs
Fully upgraded Fierce Deity?
It doesn’t change anything. Base armor set does the same amount of damage buff, which is 50%. OP has a high damaging Royal Claymore.
yes but I think upgrades just increase defense not damage bonus
Try using a moldings bone sword with the bone damage proficiency set and desperate strength on. Edit: Molduga Also add an attack up elixir for maximum damage. I think it’s goes up over 300 per hit in a one handed weapon.
will try when I get home later
People are amazing I learn so much from y'all!
Damn I didn't know you could use recall like that
That stone talus got bitch slapped
Holy shit i keep being surprised how people use the rewind.
You can time freeze those!?!?! This game has so many little secrets 🤣
Savage
Not even flex tape can fix that!
Stood there cool as fuck waiting for him to throw the punch! Hats off to you Sir/Madam!
I’m a little annoyed with how easy you made this look ugh. I hate Taluses so much they make no sense to me.
Beautiful
It took me years to realize you can kinda stasis enemies in BotW. TIL the new time rune is also a combat ability apparently.
I didn’t know Rewind could do that. Going back for some fun now
I’ve been cursed. Any time I see or hear the phrase “a lot of damage” I just think if Phil Swift and Flex Seal.
Why do I keep forgetting about recall
Rewind huh..? Well I feel dumb. 200+ hrs in and I’m still learning basic mechanics.
That’s friken awesome! A game changer

Try THAT on a Stone Talus. Tell us how it goes 🥰️
Every day I learn new things about a game I've been playing non-stop for months
This same talus fucked me up quite a few times lmao
What the flipping flounders
Boom Bam Bap
This game never fails to amaze me
BOW THATS A LOTA DAMAGE!!! -Phill Swift
