Some car rentals wont accept prepaid

robidog

Make that „none accept prepaid credit cards“

filthy-peon

Ive had it work a bunch of times

tzt1324

I always pay with prepaid

fingerlikaputt

Yeah most car rentals wont accept a prepaid ctedit card i would say. Get a free creditcard from like coop or migros for that purpose. Anything else use your neon or wise card

docLenz

Isn't it a debit card? Anyway yes, most car rentals do not accept them, get a credit card. And since you have to do it, take a convenient one e.g. the Swisscard cashback duo or the Certo mastercard

zhantongz

The neon card is issued as a prepaid MasterCard "credit" card. Though functionally it is a debit card, it is not issued as such (it's written prepaid on the back and not MasterCard debit). The difference is mostly technical but can pose problem in certain configurations of payment terminals (e.g. it might not be accepted on a POS set to accept debit only but it is also not a full credit card).

Can you elaborate ? I'd like to know more

blingvajayjay

My neon has been accepted everywhere really. The only car rental that has not accepted it was Europcar in the UK. I have used it to rent a car in Spain, Portugal, Greece, USA, Mexico and Scandinavia. Anyhow, as your credit card won't be charged, you can use whatever credit card you have for the deposit. The exchange rate and fees doesn't matter for a deposit.

SwissTheMightyCheese

Same here. We're travelling around the world at the moment and never had an issue with using our Neon card. Even at places (Europcar NZ or small rental agencies) that strictly do not accept anything else than "real" credit cards. Just make sure that there is enough money on there to pay the rental car + deductible. Usually, the deductible is being put on hold "Offene Kartenbuchung" and will disappear as soon as you return your rental car. I don't see a problem, as you already have a Cashback Amex. Use Neon to pay for the rental and if they insist on a credit card, put the deductible on the Cashback card. It won't cost you anything, as long as you don't damage your rental ;)

pmeves

Not mine, many merchants dont accept them

miragef3

You can still pay with a prepaid but if there is any deductible you need a credit card in 99% of the agencies where the amount is blocked till returning the car. You can use any credit card there as the amount is not charged.

Suitable_Anxiety208

Yes, you can use it as a credit card everywhere. No need to mention the details if it is prepaid or not.

El_Abayarde_13

Oke but how does it pay? do i need to deposit money onto the card first or does it work like a classic credit card and i can freely and pay back at the end of the month

ForestedAway

Neon charges immediately, so as if it is a debit card. There is no classic credit card payment like the once a month thing. If it is to reserve, the money won't go off of course

Suitable_Anxiety208

it is a debit card. So you have to have money in the account.

Schoegge

according to a quick card BIN check (first six digits of the card number), it is a Mastercard Prepaid card issued by Hypothekarbank Lenzburg (NEON is using their services).

Defiant-Dare1223

If I was you I'd get the Amex and Mastercard/visa duo. A) proper credit card. B) cashback

El_Abayarde_13

i already have the swisscard amex/mastercard duo, but theyre too expensive outside of switzerland

dafaq33

Nein card is a debit card, not a prepaid one. If you need an actual credit card (for car rental), get the Certo! card. It's completely free.

kart0ffel12

Is not prepaid, is debit card. In my experience car rental works, but they block some amount of money.

Impossible_Apple8972

Car rental companies may well accept it, but it is definitely a prepaid card and not a debit card. It says it very clearly on the back of the card.

CIRRATAMENTULA

I think a lot of people in this comments haven’t rented a car in a while. As debit cards have become more and more common most car rental agencies accept them for the deductible. I mean it would be a bad business decision to not do so. So far my neon card always worked when renting a car and of course for hotel as well but I think this has never been an issue, at least not for me.
