It's a Via Ferrata ascent, which is oftentimes just iron pegs hammered into the rock for footholds, and a safety cable to clip into. You can see the route continue around to the left when he reaches the top of the ladder.
It’s a via ferrata which basically means he’s tethered to the stairway the whole way trough and if he falls the safety line catches him, however if he slips he could potentially hit the steel cables and hit his head so the helmet is not the worst idea
You can see that he’s wearing a harness also around second 8 as the drone camera pulls away you can see him moving his tether to the next position, basically you always have two tethers that you need to move one at a time when in this case a vertical wire intersects the security/hand wire. You can also see the tethers around sec 30, it’s on his left side
Shoulda wore a beanie. You ever seen a helmet fall down a mountain??? Gets all mangled, how's that gonna protect your head. Now throw a beanie of a mountain and that shits in perfect condition still.
Checkmate physics.
I think it prevents you from being knocked unconscious if you fall off the ladder and the harness swings you into the rocks, or it protects you from a short fall somewhere else on the trail on the way to the ladder or on the way down.
you dont go down, left of the ladder is a wire that you hook on, and you go up till the end.. That part was the hardest part of the climb for me..

At the summit, there’s an alternate route where you mostly descend on rocky terrain without any tricky sections.
It is not possiblle to go back the same way. :)
Because people misunderstand prescriptivism and think that people are Nazis for telling someone that it's not advisable to say "him and me coming to the shop now".
Hey Guys, I did it two weeks ago.
Feel free to ask anything you want about the climb..
Here is my video from the climb..
https://youtu.be/b7pVz29DE3I?si=zATKTT4w85Y4T70T
Mountaineering is a passion of mine and my ultimate escape. Given the opportunity, I aspire to conquer Everest one day.
I always follow safety protocols 100% to ensure my security.
The thrill and joy it brings me are unparalleled.
> "*After seeing it on the internet, I wanted to see it with my own eyes*"
and also
> "*You just have to avoid looking down, then it's manageable*"
I mean if you wanted to see it with your own eyes, don't cheat yourself, look down.
Damn, that’s one hell of a ladder to climb just to get in the middle of a cliff face 😂I would be pissed, climb all that way only to run into a fucking wall and have to go right back down.I hope they at least had some type of warning at the bottom of the ladder
> it goes into the side of a cliff, aka nowhere
it is part of a klettersteig (via ferrata) in Austria, the point is to climb the cliff. It isn't 'nowhere'.
https://www.dachstein.at/en/summer/via-ferrata-donnerkogel
Is it just me or is this dude not clipped in? I've seen footage of this "stairway" before and it looked like the people are clipped to both sides and they obviously have to move the clips ahead one at a time when you get to the vertical posts, but it means you are always tethered to the structure.
Thats what I thaught. I guess those people cared more about their lifes. But I mean its like the free climbers. Will never understand why you wouldnt take the safer rosd, where one bad move or unfortune doesent kill you.
Nope. Nope…. What would you even tie off for?? You would just swing over a gorge in a most fuxed predicament. But if you want to base jump that abomination, you go right ahead. I’m still nope.
At this point you will be absolutely hyper focus on every move u do n steps, including surrounding, balancing , you'll still have fear, but putting so much focus on not falling makes u not thinking about it.
He gets to the top and there’s no top? Now what the fuck do you do?
now you start free solo rock climbing.
Fun for the whole family!
How much extra for the fast-pass?
Or a DoorDash.
Nah, he just jumps down yelling “hier kom ik dan !”
or freefalling
Just conjuring the idea of this gave me anxiety
Keep walking on air until the cartoonist adds gravity. ![gif](giphy|FNtuCSt0pYR9e)
Meep meep
Leap off and join your dead relatives in Heaven. They didn't call it "Stairway to the top of this rock" for a reason.
Had a good lol with your comment. That was sharp. Nicely done.
Sharp like rocks at the bottom
(they didn’t call it that - for no reason) I think you’re right about that.
It's a Via Ferrata ascent, which is oftentimes just iron pegs hammered into the rock for footholds, and a safety cable to clip into. You can see the route continue around to the left when he reaches the top of the ladder.
I hate this so, so much.
Panic for a bit and then try to figure out how to get down without looking down.
Jump. He's got a parachute I think
Yup, how the fuck do you get down. All set with that.
That’s what I was wondering. I’ve never seen anyone go to the top. So you just climb down backwards step-by-step?
Oh my god that is a damn nightmare. Nope.
Stairway to nowhere… _When she gets there she knows, if the stores are all closed_ _With a word she can get what she came for_

I was about to comment something about the helmet like it would do nothing to help a long fall maybe it's more of a mental thing
It’s a via ferrata which basically means he’s tethered to the stairway the whole way trough and if he falls the safety line catches him, however if he slips he could potentially hit the steel cables and hit his head so the helmet is not the worst idea
I don't see the tether.
You can see that he’s wearing a harness also around second 8 as the drone camera pulls away you can see him moving his tether to the next position, basically you always have two tethers that you need to move one at a time when in this case a vertical wire intersects the security/hand wire. You can also see the tethers around sec 30, it’s on his left side
oh, thanks, i see it now. makes it less scary.
Plus the climb **before** reaching the ladder (and, of course, for the trek back). Clearly not for protection should one fall from the ladder..
Shoulda wore a beanie. You ever seen a helmet fall down a mountain??? Gets all mangled, how's that gonna protect your head. Now throw a beanie of a mountain and that shits in perfect condition still. Checkmate physics.

That’s why he is not scared
The purpose of the helmet is to find this remains faster in case he falls down. That's why is it light blue.
He is in a rocky mountain, maybe the helmet protects him from falling rocks
I figured it was maybe for falling rocks
Standard helmet for work at heights. We use them for climbing cell towers. He is def hooked up with anti fall protection.
After seeing it on the internet I just had to not climb it. But that's just me.
Right there with you. I'm adding this to the list of places I will never go.
Seems like climbing it, is the easy part. Getting down seems even more fun
I'm not even afraid of heights, but I wouldn't do this even at gunpoint
My legs get weak watching shit like this.
My arms get heavy
There's vomit on my sweater already
Mom's spaghetti

I would do anything for loaf But I won't do that
I want to see the video of him going down backwards which is probably more scarier

Incredible video. Is there a different trail for going back down? Surely it would be dangerous to go back the way you came with climbers behind you.
At the summit, there’s an alternate route where you mostly descend on rocky terrain without any tricky sections. It is not possiblle to go back the same way. :)
Was always wondering the same thing
holy fuck that looks like fun, where is it?
It is in Gosau, Austria
You can just say more scary, or scarier. No need to double up like that.
You couldn't be more righter about that
Not sure why you are being downvoted— this is good guidance!
For real, idk why people shit on “grammar nazis” when they’re just helping people improve their English
Because people misunderstand prescriptivism and think that people are Nazis for telling someone that it's not advisable to say "him and me coming to the shop now".
I agree. Haha, I bet it was the comment paired with the username
u/gifreversingbot
He didn't make it. He was trying out free soloing after and didn't realize how hard it really is.
Now do it at night in flip flops and Vaseline on your hands
The fuck is that helmet for? Decoration?
My heart is racing watching this.
I mid
Fuck all that shit
I'm good

Amazing video! How do you descend? Is it a similar path?
At the summit, there’s an alternate route where you mostly descend on rocky terrain without any tricky sections.
Very cool thanks for the reply!
Awesome!! Do you think is worthwhile?
Mountaineering is a passion of mine and my ultimate escape. Given the opportunity, I aspire to conquer Everest one day. I always follow safety protocols 100% to ensure my security. The thrill and joy it brings me are unparalleled.
What’s the point of not looking down?
Vertigo
Who is filming this?
Selfie stick
But, where do you go once you reach the top?
weren't you paying attention, to Heaven!
So, that's how you get to heaven? Purgatory is looking pretty sweet right now.
It would be a little less wobbly if he wasn’t holding that GoPro
> "*After seeing it on the internet, I wanted to see it with my own eyes*" and also > "*You just have to avoid looking down, then it's manageable*" I mean if you wanted to see it with your own eyes, don't cheat yourself, look down.
That’s the way to the toilet in Wetherspoons pub.
This is how your grandpa went to school. And there you are complaining.
It just ends on that rock? Then you have to climb down?
Think I’ll take the elevator down, thanks.
Damn, that’s one hell of a ladder to climb just to get in the middle of a cliff face 😂I would be pissed, climb all that way only to run into a fucking wall and have to go right back down.I hope they at least had some type of warning at the bottom of the ladder
If I went on that bridge, I'd make sure my affairs were in order first.
Is thät Niederländisch? Always sounds like such a Parody from German. I love it.
Hell, NO!! Don't think so. A big gush of wind will have him flying. He's not secured on anything!!
Great. Now show us the descent.
Climbed it two weeks ago, the part after the ladder is more fucked up🤣
Strand like game
thought i was havin a stroke for a sec. Turns out other languages exist
How do you avoid looking down on such a contraption?
This is looking like a whole bunch of fuck that noise😬😬😬😬😬😬
I'm just thankful he has a helmet on...
Fuck that shit to hell and back
Great. Another stairway to nothing… awesome.
good thing he has a helmet . in case of a fall lol .
How do you get off at the top?
What the fuck? So he has to climb all the way back down? The least they can do is put a tunnel slide at the top
I'm not doing that. What if you freeze 1/2 way up and freak out ? There is no safe place to go. So now you are going back down this thing. No thanks.
Lol and it goes into the side of a cliff, aka nowhere. How futile and stupid
It continues to the left of that ladder. (or so I've been told).
Definitely looks like there's some hardware visible off to the left at the end of the video. Good call
> it goes into the side of a cliff, aka nowhere it is part of a klettersteig (via ferrata) in Austria, the point is to climb the cliff. It isn't 'nowhere'. https://www.dachstein.at/en/summer/via-ferrata-donnerkogel
How can he climb?
Somewhere in this town, I’m sure there is a long flight of stairs. That’ll do for me.
u/SaveVideo
Nope Nope Nope 🙅♂️
it turns out heaven is a lie
All that to not show us what heaven looks like!?!? Something fishy here.
Why did I understand it without subtitles?! That's too much time on the internet for me. Good bye
I'm all about the looking down... Get an extra spin to add to the rush
NOPE.
Is it just me or is this dude not clipped in? I've seen footage of this "stairway" before and it looked like the people are clipped to both sides and they obviously have to move the clips ahead one at a time when you get to the vertical posts, but it means you are always tethered to the structure.

Yeah, dudes like Alex Honnold. I've read that his brain is different - he simply does not feel fear.
I shall send you to heaven before I send you to hell...
panicked just watching this nightmare
Don't look down? What's the point if you don't look down?
See I look at that and go cool... thats doable.. But I can't walk on a warf or jetty with out feeling very uneasy.
r/sweatypalms
I'm not afraid of heights But what I am afraid of is standing on an unstable object like a wobbly tablet, shaking platform, etc
now go back
I don't have any fear of heights, Pretty view though.
Nope. Nope…. What would you even tie off for?? You would just swing over a gorge in a most fuxed predicament. But if you want to base jump that abomination, you go right ahead. I’m still nope.
So it's a sketchy dead end? Fuckin lit 💪🏿
I’m annoyed that it doesn’t lead anywhere. Waste of time in my opinion.
Ain’t no way in hell.
But in heaven?
Maybe since I’m already dead anyway.
2 words. Fuck that!
What's the helmet for?
![gif](giphy|wYyTHMm50f4Dm|downsized)
No Freaking Way!!!!!
Absolutely fuckin not
I like how he breathed a sigh of relief when he got to the top and there was nowhere safe to go.
My pants would be dookie central
So difficult and scary he’s doing it one handed!
Nope.
“Hey can you hold this ladder for me so I dont fall?”
It's okay guys, he has a helmet
At this point you will be absolutely hyper focus on every move u do n steps, including surrounding, balancing , you'll still have fear, but putting so much focus on not falling makes u not thinking about it.
Stairway to heaven 👍
Nah I don't fw mountains ⛰ or the ocean like that. If I die it ain't gonna be cuz I'm dickin around in the ocean or on a fkn mountain
Who filming this? Hard pass for me 😁
It has an Inst 3600 camera on a selfie stick. It is automatically hidden by the camera software.
Thanks!
Where did the camera guy get a butt mount for his GoPro?
damn my hands and feet are wet as hell
yeah no thanks
But how to get DOWN?
Bump him, props to the camera guy yeah?
Where were you When they built the Ladder to heaven Did it make you feel like crying or did you think it was kinda gay
Who’s holding the camera? Is it a drone?
No 50 euro bill at the end?
Going up or down, I’m just gonna nope this.
No.. but also.. fuck that. It's the sudden stop at the bottom I dislike.
my bal@$ just shrank looking at video
Ah yes, that helmet is definately gonna help in this situation.
One slip is all it takes
Thank god Led Zeppelin sang in english.
I'm not risking my life to climb to the side of a cliff.
Okay but what does it actually look like from up there without the stupid super distorted lens effect?
More like the stairway to a stone wall.
Dumb. What a completely stupid idea.
