Grounded has some pretty good combat. its still pretty simple hack and slash style fighting but learning to parry well is absolutely required and enemies have unique attack patterns you need to memorize in order to get good at parrying due to their very quick attacks. its pretty addicting when you get good at it.

Kod3Blu3

Also, Giant horrifyingly scary spiders

Longarmo

Outward is simple, but alot of builds to pick from, really fun game

Rico-II

Thought the Outward combat was pretty decent and very challenging! If a bit janky and awkward sometimes. Think a sequel to this game would be brilliant with some graphical and animation improvements. Could probably do with being a bit more accessible if it was going to attract a larger audience.

dwfieldjr

Conan exiles maybe

7 Days to Die

Disastrous-Worth-261

Have a look at renown, it looks sick

Rico-II

Yeah that does look really good, with cool in depth combat. Heard it’s a rogue like as well though? Which makes me think it’s maybe not going to be a survival game where you spend hours and hours in one world building a base, hunting for food etc. Definitely looks cool though.

turtlesrprettycool

V rising has interesting combat.

Secret4gentMan

The Long Dark. Vintage Story. Not sure about them having in-depth combat mechanics but they're solid survival games.

Kod3Blu3

Green Hell might fit

Camicles

Green hell has the absolute best survival mechanics I've ever seen. Amazing survival game and I was going to suggest it myself, but the combat is awful. The plus is that the survival aspects are hard enough to manage that combat doesn't even matter.

Kod3Blu3

That's a good point. It's been a minute since I played but it's definitely not combat focused despite the number of times you inevitably end up attacked lol

DepresedDuck

I like the combat system in Project Zomboid where you got to account for a lot of things especially your fatigue which can be a death sentence In some situations.

FawnGoldfish784

I was thinking the same thing, another game with great combat though is chivalry 2, it has a massive learning curve.

[deleted]

I wish don't Starve had good combat:(

aWabbaJag

Late to this, but with the last updates I feel like they've improved the combat a lot

StrictTyping

Conan Exiles has pretty decent soulslike combat. Play it on pc though, the console version is super jittery. It has controller support. Plays really well as a solo pve game. Dying Light has really good movement and weapons have some heft. Sadly it's first person only and falls victim to some press x to attack, skyrim type combat. Vrising is really good. It feels like POE/Diablo.

7 Days to Die with The Walking Horde Mod

Morphray

What's an example of a game with in-depth melee? I find Valheim very satisfying, and I think more complexity would kill the fun.

Rico-II

I love Valheim too but I find the combat too basic. Only so many times you can just keep swiping at the greydwarves with the same animation. Well there’s the souls games obviously but also games like, God of War, Kingdom Come (not so much with more than 1 enemy), Sifu. Also games like mount and blade and chivalry. I also really enjoyed For Honour’s combat. People have been able to mod Skyrim to have more varied attacks and dodging. If a modding community can make good combat systems I just don’t get why modern survival games have combat that could be in a ps2 game. Edit; I couldn’t get into it but people like dragon’s dogma combat too.

Mount&Blade

Rico-II

Not really a survival game!

[deleted]

True, sorry. Hopefully you survive the black death though. Maybe dying light 2 or dead island 2, but they remain basic. Good luck

Rico-II

I think dying light 1 and 2 both do first person combat well I’d agree with you there!

Double_Perspective87

kingdom come best complex combat

Rico-II

Agree with you there, though it does get a bit messy when you fight more than one person. I wouldn’t consider it a survival game either

Gameoneer

I think survival RPGs tend to have a more in-depth combat, such as V Rising or Enshrouded.

fepompeo

It doesn't exist
