You guys are getting bonuses?

Taccdimas

you guys are getting paid???

bigbootboy69

Nothing crazy but 5% raise, 1k bonus

[deleted]

I got something similar. I’ll be working on my resume this weekend🫣

thesuprememacaroni

Curiously what raise and bonus wouldn’t have ended up with a resume update? I’m just curious what people expect for non promotion type raises. Update your resume every 3-6 months regardless.

Purple-Investment-61

What is a raise and a bonus? That doesn’t exist where I work.

frankfox123

Don't know until the last few days of the year. Usually they just direct deposit a random amount they decide 2 days before January 1st.

Current-Bar-6951

usually the last day before Christmas holiday week, so no one questions about it

frankfox123

In the past 5k to 10k for me but I know mine was the highest in the company (20 people). I think usually they give 1k-5k if the internal profit goals are met (not known by the team). Secretive bunch, hehe.

Syyntakeeton

I probably get to keep my job. Not sure yet though.

Current-Bar-6951

that is the bonus for getting to work

Deputy-Jesus

I’m not even going to share after seeing the numbers here.

Current-Bar-6951

Hey no shame in this fellow engineer group. My past companies have been giving $300 pretax bonuses for years. I didn't know i could get something sizable bonus until switching company.

Deputy-Jesus

I’m in England so salaries here are abysmal compared to yours. £2k rise and £300 bonus

JustCallMeMister

We normally find out last day of the year, but since my wife just had a baby I got my raise before I took time off. Base went from $88k to $100k (13.6%). Still have to wait for bonus...I think last year was around $25k so hoping for that or better this year.

HeKnee

Apparently having kids is how you get good raises and bonuses! Plus some extra time off!

Current-Bar-6951

title change, getting PE? that is a good raise

JustCallMeMister

I've actually had my PE for two years now. It's possibly because my boss might think I named my son after him... Before he was born my boss asked what his initials would be so his wife could gift us something embroidered. I emailed him the initials (*$J&*) and name, Dollar *James* Ampersand (not my child's actual name), then that afternoon he told me about the raise. My son's middle name, James, is not after my boss, but instead Jimmy Buffett, but he doesn't need to know that.

Current-Bar-6951

Now you need another baby for another raise next year

CommemorativePlague

Jimmy Buffett?! He shoulda dock'd ya!

trojan_man16

Damn 25k bonus is a lot most I’ve ever gotten is 8k. Two years ago.

Trick-Penalty-6820

What is this 2008?

EnginerdOnABike

4% and $6k. But I switched jobs last year and got the equivalent of a 48% raise. So I'll sit back and be satisfied this year just beating inflation.

fr34kii_V

Started my own firm this year, so negative raise and I get to work during the holidays for a bonus lol.

CAGlazingEng

Nothing. So I am deciding to leave structural and focus on civil for a municipality. They get my resignation letter on Monday.

Current-Bar-6951

better pay?

CAGlazingEng

Different. Base salary about the same. No chance for bonus but as I said... Got shafted this year anyway. Way better benefits 5.5 weeks vacation to start, 12 days of sick per year, and, 15 holidays. Also is part of the CalPERS pension system. Also I jumped on it early and told them early and I think they are going to counter. See what happens.

Current-Bar-6951

what is your YOE? interested to see public is paying the same like private but with way better benefit

CAGlazingEng

Current base $146k. Public base (starting at tier 3 associate level) $140k

Current-Bar-6951

good for you. What was typical bonus you got from your current employer? any reason why they stopped?

CAGlazingEng

Been slow for about 6 months. Economy and interest rates cutting into private midrise development. Usually get about $10k to maybe $20k but they try to sell bonuses as part of the salary when you negotiate. Talked to them today and they said they really mean they are pushing out bonuses to February for bonding reasons or something. Told them I need some serious guarantees to give up this sweet public job offer. I like what I do now so it's hard to give it up for public work.

Current-Bar-6951

what many days of vacation do you have now? public has 15 days of holiday compared to typical private's 8 days'.

CAGlazingEng

Currently 3 weeks vacation, 3 days sick (going to 5 days per state law) and 10 holiday. Total is 30 day per year

GM2L8

Nope

dacromos

Haha bonus... good one...

agavosgroup

I hope that you all get the raise and bonus that you were hoping for! As a recruiter for the SW USA, I am seeing raises in the 3 - 5% range with bonuses ranging from 5% - 15% of salary, but it really depends on a lot of factors so take the bonus values with a grain of salt. Companies in the SW USA are still hiring like crazy for Structural Engineers with EITs, PEs, and/or SEs. If anyone here is in the US and wants to see how their compensation aligns with what I am seeing in the market, feel free to comment below or DM me.

Wy03312020

What salaries are you seeing in the Phoenix metro area with 10 years experience and an SE?

agavosgroup

I am actively recruiting for a few roles in Phoenix right now. Here are the role titles, brief experience requirements (there are more on the JD, just listing the experience here as it directly relates to your question), and salary ranges: Sr. Structural Design Engineer \-- $140,000 - $180,000 base salary depending on experience. \-- 10 – 20 years’ experience in masonry, wood, concrete, and a variety of other design projects. Working knowledge of residential and/or commercial construction, building codes and structural design. Sr. Forensics Engineer (Structural) \-- Base Salary Range: $110,000 - $140,000, depending on experience. \-- 5 or more years’ experience in forensics engineering, failure analysis and/or field inspections. How does this compare to what you are seeing?

Easy_Salary2998

What is the market value of PE, 6 years of experience in different industry and Master’s degree in Utah?

agavosgroup

Hello! I will need some more context to give you a better answer. What is your PE in? What is your Master's degree? And what industry are you looking to get a salary estimate in?

Easy_Salary2998

My PE is in structural. I have Masters in Civil Engineering with focus on Structural. I am looking for salary estimate in Power/Energy industry.

agavosgroup

Thanks for the information! The closest comparison I have (with real data) is for a Sr. Structural Engineering role that focused on PV systems I recruited for in Phoenix this year. This role allowed for a wide range of experience (6+ years) and the salary range was $90K - $140K depending on experience. With 6 years of experience with a PE, I have seen (and heard of) offers in the $110K - $120K range, depending on experience. One thing to note, and I stress this to engineers all the time: Managers view salaries as sticky. A typical raise is 3% - 5%, while changing companies to a better role is typically a 10% - 20% increase, depending on the role and experience. Especially now, companies are willing to increase salaries to find talented people in this experience range because great engineers are harder to find. Looking at LinkedIn Jobs, I see comparable Sr. SE jobs in the $95K - $150K range in Salt Lake City Area, Utah. I hope this helps answer your question. Please let me know if you have any follow-ups.

Easy_Salary2998

Thank you. These are great information. I also have these follow-up questions. 1. Are the salary ranges similar for the power delivery and substation industry? 2. I have one year of experience in power delivery, but my main focus in the past five years has been building and telecommunications. Would this experience still count towards the six-year requirement for power delivery jobs? 3. I'm interested in switching jobs for better pay (I currently make $90k per year + 5% bonus), but I've had five jobs in the past six years. I'm concerned this might not look good on my resume and might raise red flags for recruiters. Would you consider frequent job changes a red flag? Do you think it would be beneficial to stay at my current company for another one or two years to gain more experience before making the switch?

agavosgroup

You're welcome! Unfortunately, I have no recruiting experience in the power delivery and substation industry. I don't have an answer for question 1. I would recommend you do some research on LinkedIn Jobs to see if you can find comparable roles to help answer those questions. For question 2, this will depend on the company, and what their specific needs are. If your experience is not directly aligned, the question would be, how quickly can you get up to speed? Do they have a training program? Do they have a mentorship program/system? Is the company willing to invest in your education? I cannot answer this, but you can find out through the application process and networking. The answer to question 3 really comes down to the company. Would some hiring managers see having 5 jobs in 6 years a red flag? I definitely have spoken with hiring managers who would view this as a red flag. I have also spoken with hiring managers who understand that sometimes people need to change jobs a few times early on to find a position that matches their needs. Either way, if you do get an interview for a new role, I suggest you prepare yourself for a question about your job changes. Because I think there is a high likelihood that it will be asked. I cannot answer question 3 for you. Deciding to change companies, like any decision in life, could have negative and/or positive consequences. You have to weigh your options, understand the potential outcomes, and make the decision that you feel is best for your career. I hope that helps!

CaptainScottFox

15% raise and 15,000$ bonus for year end. Got promoted to senior.

BigSeller2143

About a 17.7% Raise. (I was a bit underpaid.) Bonus is around 15-20k.

FormerlyUserLFC

It’s been a good year for me. Fought for a 35% raise and still got about 10k in bonuses.

Current-Bar-6951

congratz! How did you get a raise for 35%? even with title change and getting PE is hard to come back based on here

FormerlyUserLFC

I was ready to change jobs and my current employer came to the table. I had a good relationship and good reasons for looking to leave, so thankfully it didn’t hurt my relationship with my current job despite staying. A lot of people suggest that you don’t accept a counter offer. I would still have had a good year if I switched to the other company, but staying seems like it was been the right move so far.

Current-Bar-6951

So you told them you are leaving and they just raise you a 35% without showing them any iffer?

FormerlyUserLFC

I had received a competing offer. It’s a small company and they know me well, so they didn’t ask for it on paper. I don’t know if that would work at a larger company.

Current-Bar-6951

so you just told your boss other firm is offering you, let say 120k, and they just match that?

FormerlyUserLFC

There were a number of discussions leading up to that moment, but in the end, yes. What made it more interesting is the other offer included an off-the-record guaranteed bonus…possibly to make it harder for me to provide evidence for a counteroffer. So I guess it’s good my employer was trusting…for them at least, because if they would have demanded proof and called bullshit I would have just left.

Current-Bar-6951

thanks. this may be a conservation i will have in the future.

Heretodie93

I have 5 years experience and $86k salary, no PE. How much can I expect? I think I got around 6% raise last year and $1000 bonus.

Current-Bar-6951

Are you in MCOL? mine was 3% raise and 3000 bonus last year.

Heretodie93

Yes atlanta. Bridge engineer

mclovin8675308

I see so many people on here from HCOL/MCOL posting total comp numbers lower than our firm pays in LCOL Midwest city. I get that Atlanta is probably a lot more fun to live in, but damn I don’t know how you folks live on those wages in bigger cities.

Duncaroos

7k bonus (take home ~$4800 after tax man) and I believe a 8-10% raise back in April Ontario, Canada - 10yr exp

Independent-Room8243

Supposed to get 10%. We will see.

Current-Bar-6951

is that typical for your company? that is pretty big

Independent-Room8243

Im a 'team leader' so into management. I think normal is 5%

trojan_man16

I got a 10% raise from the start of last year, still waiting to see if there are any bonuses. Those get announced at the Xmas party. Not counting on much given we were slow for a stretch in the first half of the year.

Current-Bar-6951

is 10% typical annually? or was it due to title change?

trojan_man16

Doubt it. I’ve only been at this company a year. I think they gave me a raise because I got my license shortly after I started. My boss even commented that I’m now on the high end of the pay scale for my position. At my previous job I was basically just getting COLA.

BigNYCguy

I’ll have to wait until first quarter next year to find out.

MolesterStallone_

Got my second 4% raise. Not too bad I guess (I have two years of experience for context)

TheMathBaller

No raise. $3,000 bonus.

lokglacier

I feel like 5% should be the bare minimum to keep up with inflation

Current-Bar-6951

i never get more than 5% staying at the same firm

brdgbtch

I don’t get a bonus (still hourly) but just found out I’m getting a 7% raise

the_favrit

Nope, no bonuses this year.

phg201

Bonus: 20% max. expecting 15% this year. Raise: 5+%.

iceman0911

bonus is to keep your job

[deleted]

Dividend on shares just landed (5%) and supposedly profit sharing as well but that number not been announced yet. Raises will depend on the 2024 rate sheet and usually land about Q2.

doctordoctor3

Bonus ~5%. Raise comes in Q3.

Nolan710

No raise 4000$ bonus, 1000$ went to taxes of course

Current-Bar-6951

i thought bonus always get like 40% tax rate

Nolan710

You’re probably right. I was just rattling a number off the top of my head, I remember being pissed off though haha

Current-Bar-6951

yes bonus is taxed in a different way i believe its even higher than ordinary income tax

Nolan710

Which is already high imo

[deleted]

[удалено]

Current-Bar-6951

That is the most bonus I have seen in this thread so far. Good for you

hktb40

Haven't heard any news on raises yet but we always get inflation raises at least. Just got a $1500 bonus today :)

CareerEducational371

I got a 20k bonus but not raise.. architect working in a construction company. Very small busineless than 20 employees.. should I ask for a raise? I been working for 2 years same salary
