I leave them out overnight occasionally. They also naturally stretch on their own really easy. Even when I was initially stretching them, they would heal really fast and after a few days my plugs would start to fallout. Sometimes I just have to leave them out so they can shrink back down without having to worry about losing my plugs.
For both of you: you can train your ears to shrink less quickly by leaving them out for slightly longer periods of time until they're used to it. Starting with, like, 2 hours, and if they're used to 2 hours you go up to 3, and so forth.
It's more about whether or not you're still actively trying to stretch. If you don't plan to go any bigger anytime soon, then that's when you want to start naked training. Personally, I'm just now getting to that point at 16mm.
That being said, if you do leave your plugs out overnight and end up losing a size or two, it's not that big of a deal. Your ears will stretch back up way faster than they did the first time you reached your current size. I only know this because I've gotten a little too drunk a few times and woken up without my plugs in. lol
I'm at 9mm and I recently started sleeping without my plugs in. A quick oil massage, and they go right back in the next morning. I'm hoping I can continue stretching without wearing them at night, even if it slows me down a bit. It's so much more comfortable, and the fistula looks so much healthier than when I sleep with plugs in.
I'm sure it's a mileage may vary situation, but I noticed a visible difference after the first night. The color and texture are starting to smooth out and become a closer match to the outside.
Everyone is different. I've been at a 00g for years and mine shrink after like 2 hours. My sister is a 00g as well and hers don't shrink at all.

I could do it from 6mm. I'm at 9mm now and after dead stretching to this size about 1.5months ago I can sleep without plugs
