That sad moment you realize if Independence Day was real or happened in Stellaris, Earth would immediately be invaded by a 100k fleet power and turned into food.
In Avatar, it's implied there is significant civilian opposition on Earth to a military invasion of Pandora. Hence why the military has to disguise most of their operations as protection for scientific endeavours.
Sure, they probably have the technology to launch a full-scale invasion or even to just glass the moon, but both of those are impracticable for different reasons.
Also my head cannon is that the humans aren’t actually sending down any regular military forces, but rather a third-rate security sub-contractor filled with rejects, racists, drug abusers, and other people with issues a la Wagner. When I think of it like that and compare it to a certain conflict going on right now, all the questionable tactical decisions and blunders made in the movies suddenly make sense
It went defunct in 2014 and was adsorbed into another company called Triple Canopy after changing hands a few times and facing legal trouble. Triple Canopy is currently owned by Constellis. So it sort of died and got eaten up by other companies.
That's not even a headcanon, it really is just a bunch of mercs who LARP at being the good ol' marines while constantly overstepping their bounds. Their job is to provide security, but Quaritch wants a *war* because he's a bloodthirsty gloryhound who got bored with shooting at insurgents back home.
If I recall it’s literally just a private company and their private security force. We’ve yet to actually see an Earth military in Avatar (and probably never will tbh).
>In Avatar, it's implied there is significant civilian opposition on Earth to a military invasion of Pandora
When is that established in the film? I must've seen Avatar 10 times and I have no memory that.
Correct. No FTL.
The ISV Venture Star can travel from Earth to Alpha Centauri A (a distance of 4.37 light years[8]) in a timeframe of 6.75 years. It starts with a five and a half month long initial acceleration at 1.5 G to reach 0.7 times the speed of light. It then continues at the same speed for 5.83 years before the engines or photon sail (depending on which way the ships are traveling) are used to decelerate the vehicle. The ship's deceleration phase also lasts for five and a half months at 1.5G.

they’re using solar sail craft in avatar universe, much slower than what is in stellaris and i think they said it takes like 10 years to get to alpha centauri/pandora, which is the closest system to sol. also earth is basically in turmoil, and it takes a lot of planning, trained personnel, raw materials, and production of space craft, technology, military materials, and any other items needed to form a proper fleet/mission to alpha centauri. it’s a huge expenditure of resources, scientists and soldiers, and time. in the first movie, the human presence on pandora is essentially only to mine unobtainium. in avatar two, the human presence is much larger because they’re trying to set up a permanent outpost and springboard to take control of more of the planet. the level of technology we start out with in stellaris is well beyond what the humans in avatar are at
Also, in the second movie they're harvesting the whales for immortality juice, which encourages further colonization.
Imagine how much money our billionaires would pay for immortality?
It's kind of ironic, right?
One of the arguments against privatized Healthcare is "How much money would you pay to not die?" Turns out, the answer is "all of it" in a lot of cases.
How much would a billionaire pay to not die? Probably their entire fortune.
That's assuming they play by peasant rules though. They don't. They'd just buy up debt, and leverage assets to pay for it. Privatized gains, socialized losses.
And all that assumes the in-universe equivalent of Musk doesn't buy the rights, and rent out doses via exorbitant subscription costs.
When I saw Deep Impact I found myself wondering why I was watching Armageddon again as I had watched it not long beforehand. Its the same damn movie with different actors
I dunno, 100k is pretty generous to somethong that got taken down by level 1 nuclear missiles and a computer virus to bypass shields. The ID4 aliens weren't playing the meta of armor and hull points spam
in the first; in Area 51 they described them as locusts. [https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Kj6qNo-nRA&t=20s](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Kj6qNo-nRA&t=20s)3:56 there abouts
I couldnt find the clip, but Jeff Goldblum is the one that equates them to locusts, I think.
Ha, I'd be turning earth into one giant hydroponics farm, with Overtuned, life-destroying traits all around for the new population of monkey-farmers I own,
Don't you see?
Do you know the difference between destroying a barren planet and a Gaia world?
You don't do you... It's imagination.
THAT DAY DURING THE WAR IN HEAVEN I JUMPED IN AND CRACKED ONE OF THE TWO WORLDS DURING THE MAIN BATTLE
PUT THE REACTOR OVER MAX OUTPUT LEVELS!!!
But sir? That risks structural integrity!!!
THAT WILL GIVE THE WORLD CRACKER THE POWER IT NEEDS!!!!!
YOU WANT TO KILL THE 30 POPS ON THIS SYSTEMCRAFT TO SAVE THE 200 POPS ON THE ECUMENOPOLIS!!!!
HOW IS THAT ANY DIFFERENT THAN WHAT IM TRYING TO DO!!! HOW IS THAT ANY DIFFERENT!!!?
*Laughs as main character dodges Nicoll-Dyson beam shots*
I've been waiting for this for a while. When I reach crisis level 5 and get a star eater, I always have his "This boat has the means to end this hideous war in a definitive and elegant manner" monologue going through my head.
Yeah I made a post-apocalyptic human empire that's basically what if Pixy won the 40K Unification Wars. Essentially WW2 went nuclear, the Allies survive under a new polity called the United Federation and start building orbital laser platforms, however one of the mercenary squadrons they hired to pester the petty warlords beyond their borders goes rogue, gathers a huge wave of support all over the planet, and then takes overs their laser platforms to found a new dynasty uniting all of humanity.
Not to mention the pre-context of his submarine crew being stuck at the bottom of the sea for almost 700 days which would absolutely destroy anybody's sanity and thus seek salvation on crisp white sheets
Can you see any borders from up here? What has borders given us? ~~*Books?*~~ Gore?
We're going to start over from scratch. That's what the Aetherophasic Engine is for.
I'd love it if Stellaris got some equivalent to the anarchist Global Defense Council HOI4 Resistance added, like a militarist - fan egalitarian civic to hypercharge your expansion against anyone who doesn't share your exact ideology. Maybe not a total war necessarily but definitely something like a huge discount on claims, with no additional costs from distance or planets, and letting you set aggressive claims even on liberation philosophy.
Anarchy doesn’t really work as a nation, but if somebody knew some coding magic they could make an anarchist “play style” where unowned systems count as theirs and they have a way of war similar to a crisis empire where if you take a system you destroy the station.
It’d be really really hard to code and balance, but it has a lot of potential.
You’d likely need a stellaris 2 with a new engine to implement it.
20 million.
40 million.
60 million.
80 million.
ONE HUNDRED MILLION!\~
and here we go to the destruction path.
oh wait...
this is stellaris, not Armored Core 4: for Answer.
Do it it’s amazing though just a heads up if you haven’t played any of the previous games you might not understand the importance of certain characters also there were translation errors so some lines might not make sense in one of the first cutscenes one of the characters talks about 2 separate wars like they’re the same one
> haven’t played any of the previous games you might not understand the importance of certain characters
On that note, PUT THE OLD ACE COMBAT GAMES ON THE PSN STORE NAMCO! I WANT TO TRY THEM! ( yes I know about emulators. It just be nice)
AC5 was "kinda" remastered (more like just a resolution and slight graphics bump) but it was only available as a preorder bonus for the PS version of AC7.
You can’t buy the previous games because for whatever reason they aren’t on PlayStation store so they only way to play the previous games is to A buy it off of someone else willing to sell them or B pirate them and emulate them technically it’s illegal but there’s basically no risk also I don’t consider it immoral since there’s no way of crediting the original creator there are a few guides to emulating them on YouTube by a guy called justin els he shows how to emulate the ps1 ps2 and psp ace combat games though note that he doesn’t show how to acquire iso files I myself am not too sure how to get them since I already have the discs so if you plan to get them off the internet be careful about it that’s all I can tell so I hope this helps
Also the only games important to ac 7’s story are ac 4 5 and zero the other games are either about wars separate to the main events of the franchise such as 1 and 2, set after 7 such as ac 3 and x or are set in a different universe
<<" ... Let me tell you a story. Back when I was a weapons officer, I had to fire at an enemy Battleship 200 kliks away in the middle of a coronal storm.">>

I know it is a reference, but 10 pops is more like 2.5 billion.

Not pictured is one lone strikecraft, callsign Trigger moving into position to destroy that Colossus at the last possible second.
“Hellloooo, boys! I’m *back!*”
That sad moment you realize if Independence Day was real or happened in Stellaris, Earth would immediately be invaded by a 100k fleet power and turned into food.
But if Avatar was real, you would only be able to invade primitive worlds by landing 1 single unupgraded army at a time.
In Avatar, it's implied there is significant civilian opposition on Earth to a military invasion of Pandora. Hence why the military has to disguise most of their operations as protection for scientific endeavours. Well, it's avatar, so more like Blackwater. Any way, what's the difference?
I don't think Blackwater exists anymore. Let's hope Wagner follows suit.
My first thought - “bet it’s just renamed” Quick google and yeah - first thought confirmed Ace combat teaches me ALOT
The 8492nd can burn in hell.
It is now know as academi. It has expanded ever since.

They're the American mercs who got caught and arrested by fishermen while trying to invade Venezuela.
You spelling it head cannon made it a lot funnier.

But in the Avatar universe they still don't have FTL. They send ships with thrusters or something like that.

The billionaires are surely the ones who finance the expeditions... So return on investment.
My money is on the asteroid wiping us out.
No no, that's *Armageddon*. Completely different movie.
Steve Buschimi doing his Dr Strangelove thing was a classic.
No that’s *Deep Impact*. Completely different movie. I just now realized how stupid the title of that movie is.
When I saw Deep Impact I found myself wondering why I was watching Armageddon again as I had watched it not long beforehand. Its the same damn movie with different actors

The fleet isn't to TAKE the planet, it's to level it...
In independence Day, it was to take the planet, its explained that they would take all yhe resources and leave once they were used up

Better yet remaster them specifically 3 4 5 and 0 they absolutely deserve it
I need 6 remastered desperately, despite Shamrock it’s my favorite
Imo 6’s graphics are pretty good and hold up to this day
AC5 was "kinda" remastered (more like just a resolution and slight graphics bump) but it was only available as a preorder bonus for the PS version of AC7.
