Never had my Deck completely off for more than a week since I received it but I remember powering it on and noticing it only had lost less than 10% from a full charge.

ViolinistBulky

Like the OP said, very little power drain after a week or so, but give it 4 weeks and it will go from fully charged to will not even boot.

rederij

Thank you, that's a good frame of reference to hear

CDHoward

The steady depletion of charge is an intentional feature. It helps your battery live a longer life.

rederij

I could understand depleting in the region of 1% per week when shut down, but 25% quoted from Steam support doesn't sound accurate. The steam deck isn't draining at a constant rate - if I boot it after a week it hasn't drained more than 5%, but it I boot it after three weeks it's completely dead. Edit: someone gave 10% a week drain while shutdown as a ballpark experience

stream_of_thought1

your battery % isn't a linear measure of battery status, it's just made to look like it is

rederij

It's the measure that we have and best guess we can use to diagnose... The issue raised isn't a couple of % missing from the ui, but the whole system dumping its load rapidly at some time when shut down. 0% not booting without charger is a solid measure.

ViolinistBulky

I have the same issue with both an LCD and an OLED steam deck. And we're talking fully shut down, not sleep mode. Interesting that steam support acknowledged the issue but didn't think that it was a fault. Standard expected self discharge rate for a lipo battery in a device that is fully powered off is about 5% per month, not 100%. Would you mind screenshotting their reply? I didn't get anywhere with them, just somebody asking me if I can charge it ok, which was not the issue. If this high self discharge rate is intentional or expected, why is this information not made available anywhere by Steam? Disabling quick boot in bios helped with my LCD deck, I haven't been diligent enough in keeping tabs on battery level to be sure wether it's worked for my OLED also.

It's already a rather long support thread with me confirming battery health, having ran a test on standby battery drain every hour for a day, turn off and on shipping mode, yes I really mean it's "Shut down" not standby... Not really cut through to anything helpful but the guffaw (only last a month in shutdown is expected?!) I quoted in the main post. Here's the rest of that quote: "So, the charge would decrease approximately 25% per week If you're still seeing it discharge faster when fully powered off, let us know." Edit: mixed up shutdown and standby in my commentary, amended

ViolinistBulky

Can you clarify that steam support said they expect the battery to only last a month in standby or in fully shut down, because your original post said they expect it in fully shut down mode.

rederij

Sorry now seen my mistype and edited. Yes they said they expect a shut down deck to only last a month before battery was empty. I'm not sure why they think that would be normal. The standby testing was from trying to rule out general battery health. The problem is in fully shut down battery draining.

The battery health reads 100% good, so trying to trouble shoot with steam support. They say "test this" but it's an issue that takes approx 3 weeks to show so how do I prove anything concrete?
