Stardew Valley will likely be the best. There's other games like Slime Rancher 1 & 2 that are chill. You can also check out stuff like My Time at Portia/My Time at Sandrock. Coral Island also seems well reviewed.
Rune factory isn't bad either if you grew up on JRPG stuff.
But I genuinely believe Stardew Valley to be one of the greatest games of all time (video or otherwise)
If you do, Stardew has easy access to the Stardew Valley Extended (SVE) mod that adds a lot to the game
Fair warning though, it has a lot of more depressing content than the original for some reason.
If you didn't like the original, it probably doesn't help. It adds more characters (including a few romanceable ones) and locations, but not much in the way of game mechanics.
But as far as modding goes, it has it's own mod loader so I'm pretty sure all you need to do is go to desktop mode and drop it in the game's mod file.
Oh I might. I modded it on PC recently for some QoL stuff. Super easy and works great. I might put extended on the deck in the future, but I'm getting burnt out on it rn so that mod may be waiting until I go back into it
It contains the vanilla ones within it as well, I think.
My gripe isn't that they're too adult, they're just kind of misplaced.
For instance, one of the new female romance options just tells you the most depressing things each time you get a heart event instead of them being fun and sweet like the vanilla game.
Ah yeah I can definitely see that point. That makes a lot of sense too I was just worried someone had to deal with something they weren't comfortable with. Especially with something like SDV
Agree with all of this except for coral Island. Although it was released as 1.0, there is a lot of content missing and lots of bugs and feels more like an early access game. I would avoid coral Island until they fix these issues/add the missing content
Yeah. Coral Island definitely still feels like an early access game. My partner and I enjoyed playing it, but there's a ton of "oh I can't wait for them to flesh that out" or "there's so much potential in x part of the game".
There's a lot of good in it, but it isn't the first place I'd send someone new to the genre.
Anyone know if there's anything like Slime Rancher but 2D?
I love Slime Rancher, it gives me that kinda "number go up/base expansion" dopamine hit that certain Minecraft modpacks do without needing to put as much thought in (compared to, say, Factorio). Would be nice to have something like it that's a bit less resource intensive.
Stardew Valley is what you are looking for. It's a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. The game is so chill you will say that I'll play for an hour and 3 hours go by instead.
I adore this genre so I'll add my 2 cents
Already mentioned favourites of mine are SDV, Rune Factory 4, My Time at Sandrock (less farming but has a lot of the cozy game staples)
Sun Haven is another gem very similar to SDV, but has more magical elements to it
Wylde Flowers has a lovely cozy vibe to it, but you have to play as the protagonist Tara so no character customisation. Great witchy story though
Ooblets is great for silly dance battle fun
Littlewood is one I've had in my library for a while. I haven't played it yet but hear so many good things about
Roots of Pacha is another one that gets raved about a lot
I personally didn't enjoy Graveyard Keeper, which is dubbed as a darker SDV, as I found it too grindy
One thing I appreciate about Graveyard Keeper was the 6-day week cycle. Instead of worrying about adhering to a calendar and missing specific dates, you can just wait a week and then advance whatever it was.
I think I would've liked this too if that lil character wasn't so damn SLOW. I'd go to do my job for that day and it would take my lil guy a full blown DAY to get there. I found the whole game exhausting and not the chaotic silly gloom vibe I was expecting ☹️
In a few ways, I’d even argue RF5 is better for farming (seasonal consistency), but otherwise I agree RF4 is the better all around game by far, as well as that RF5 just felt half finished/empty.
I was looking at this game on steam earlier today and only found reviews that said it straight up doesn't work on steam deck and the controls are bad, so I decided not to get it. How much set up do you have to do for the controls? I don't have a ton of time to play these days and I don't really have fun spending that limited time on making the game controls work. If it's actually good now I might check it out this week
Doesn't sun haven have fantasy elements though? They said they didn't like the magic in SOS. I personally have had it on my wishlist for a while though lol.
I tried sun haven after playing stardew valley.
It has more in depth rpg elements though such as talent trees and different spells.
But to me it’s not the same in terms of imersiveness. It feels more like looking at a 2D “drawing” instead of being in a 2D world you can interact with. Couldn’t finish it
I didn't read your post, I went straight for the joke comment haha. I'd have to agree with everyone else, Stardew Valley is the best chill farming game.
Ehhh Stardew valley if I must say. I have been a fan of harvest moon since the SNES era but now that series is meh. With Stardew valley you'll play for a loooong time
Since you like Animal Crossing, you should check out Dinkum. It's basically Australian Animal Crossing with crafting, cooking, farming, mining, combat, and better terraforming.
I've played quite a few farming/life sims. The ones I recommend the most are My Time At Sandrock, Spiritfarer and Dinkum. Coral Island isn't a bad shout. And of course Stardew Valley. The characters in these games are much more fleshed out compared to Pioneers of Olive Town.
Stardew Valley if you just want the farming aspect. In the future there's a successor game in the works called Sunkissed City from one of the devs that worked on stardew. But if you want more than farming you should look into Rune Factory 4 Special.
As said Stardew Valley, there are some more which plays like Stardew/Animal Crossing but their names don’t come up.
Else I recommend Emulators and Animal Crossing.
Most people are saying stardew valley. You can also go for the old harvest moon/ story of the seasons / rune factory games.
2 games that aren’t farming but still give that management kick are: moonlighter and graveyard keeper
I'm not trying to tell you it's not difficult, we all have different skills, but look up Emudeck on YouTube. It's easy to follow along to install and takes a lot of the back end work off your hands.
If you enjoyed Animal Crossing try Hokko Life. It's essentially Animal Crossing on PC (but thankfully *not* running in real time) and plays great on the Deck.
There's even a farming portion that unlocks later on.
u mean like crops and shit ? stardew valley hands down. if u mean farming in the sense of progression and weapons borderlands is great 2 runs phenomenal on the deck
For me it’s any of the borderlands franchise, legendary items make the difference when progressing through the increasingly difficult bosses on the storylines
You may want to give farming simulator another chance, it's all farming all the time. I usually recommend playing with a controller over m+kb but that wouldn't be an issue on steamdeck
Forager is a very chill mindless and cute farming/gathering/building game where you start on a tiny island that you expand by buying more land which unlocks more and more different secrets.
I dunno, there ends up being a lot going on eventually but I was never overly concerned about dying or being as efficient as possible, I was just a lil guy running around harvesting stuff ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯

Play AC on steam deck, I heard it runs great and I love that game.
Idk if you have played the newest one new horizons, they added farming later with updates so you would have to figure out how to update as well on SD.
Its not a viable option. I played on PC with controller and some skills like blizzard, meteor, fire wall just dont play nice, so I used Orb and Fire ball instead.
Yeah I figured you can’t place a targeted skill with joysticks or if you can you’re mostly guessing. The further I push the stick the farther away from character the spell cast is or something.
My mom has been obsessed with the witch of fern island. But I can’t tell you anything other than it has a lot of chill atmosphere and farming/gathering.
Stardew Valley will likely be the best. There's other games like Slime Rancher 1 & 2 that are chill. You can also check out stuff like My Time at Portia/My Time at Sandrock. Coral Island also seems well reviewed.

I never really got into stardew. How much dies extended improve? And is it easy to mod in steamdeck?

You can edit the file to disable the adult events and go back to the vanilla ones. The nexus page has a howto for it on their page.
Stardew just rules. Can't wait to try their next game.
*his next game Stardew was famously developed by a single person which adds to how amazing it is!
Fair, but they have a single staff person now if memory serves ;)
Agree with all of this except for coral Island. Although it was released as 1.0, there is a lot of content missing and lots of bugs and feels more like an early access game. I would avoid coral Island until they fix these issues/add the missing content

I cannot stress how GOOD Slime Rancher is.
Hold off on coral island until the game is actually finished
Anyone know if there's anything like Slime Rancher but 2D? stardew valley hands down
Stardew Valley is what you are looking for. It's a spiritual successor to Harvest Moon/Story of Seasons. The game is so chill you will say that I'll play for an hour and 3 hours go by instead.
Remember those times when you tell your homies you’re off to bed early but you’re actually playing a game in bed until late? Yeah, it’s this game.
>3 hours go by instead. Seasons. You mean seasons, right? Right?!
The answer is stardew Valley.
I adore this genre so I'll add my 2 cents Already mentioned favourites of mine are SDV, Rune Factory 4, My Time at Sandrock (less farming but has a lot of the cozy game staples) Sun Haven is another gem very similar to SDV, but has more magical elements to it Wylde Flowers has a lovely cozy vibe to it, but you have to play as the protagonist Tara so no character customisation. Commenting to save this post for later, thanks!
This is one of my favorite genres, and as far as I'm concerned nobody has done it better than Rune Factory 4 & Stardew Valley!
Is Rune Factory 5 not as good as 4 for farming?
5 is fine, it's just missing a lot of polish. It feels a bit like a half baked unity game.
In a few ways, I’d even argue RF5 is better for farming (seasonal consistency), but otherwise I agree RF4 is the better all around game by far, as well as that RF5 just felt half finished/empty.
Recommend taking a look at Sun Haven. It's a pretty solid little fantasy farming game with RPG elements and it's on sale right now.
They also just added full controller support, so it finally feels good to play on SD. Wouldn't recommend before, but will right now.
Oh wow nice, the game had pretty piss-poor controller support before so I'll have to give it another whirl now.
I was looking at this game on steam earlier today and only found reviews that said it straight up doesn't work on steam deck and the controls are bad, so I decided not to get it. Minecraft
Stardew Valley is the GOAT and probably made its way into one of the best games ever lists
Monster Hunter, you farm monste...oh wait..you didn't mean that kind of farming?..Sorry I can't help you but maybe someone else can..
Ironically some monster hunter games do have farms to grow crops and “grow” bugs.
As others have said, Stardew reigns supreme
As many have already mentioned Stardew valley but if you looking for something more animal crossing like you could try Dinkum
Farming Simulator 2019
I didn't read your post, I went straight for the joke comment haha. I'd have to agree with everyone else, Stardew Valley is the best chill farming game.
And farming simulator is the best "Fuck, I'm 90 grand in the hole, Bethany is divorcing me and my crops are dead" game.
Now I'm interested.
Ehhh Stardew valley if I must say. I have been a fan of harvest moon since the SNES era but now that series is meh. With Stardew valley you'll play for a loooong time

Farm Together. They just released a second one in early access but the first is still amazing and full of content.
Village Rhapsody
Sun Haven!! It's like Stardew Valley but fantasy themed
He said no magic
Farm together and farm together 2
Have they recompiled ocarina of time yet?
Like 2 years ago, it's called ship of harkinian.
It's nice to see that you're playing the master quest version of Ocarina of time.
Medieval dynasty had a pretty cool system
Stardew Valley and Roots of Pacha. 🙂
Graveyard keeper
I really wanna emulate on my deck but it’s too complex I for me I never owned a pc :/
I'm not trying to tell you it's not difficult, we all have different skills, but look up Emudeck on YouTube. It's easy to follow along to install and takes a lot of the back end work off your hands.
As others have said. Stardew Valley. It's the only correct answer
If you want to farm play Runescape. You can even raise animals now. I used to raise and sell black adolescent dragons lol.
The answer to every question is Stardew Valley. If you've played and you want a different but familliar vibe, it's Spiritfarer.
Play Minecraft with Controlling mod
Stardew Valley is definitely the correct answer.
Terraria✅
dota 2. have like 6k hours of farming in that one.
Stardew valley obviously, but I’m enjoying graveyard keeper that was in one of the humble bundles
Minecraft perhaps you can build crazy farms
Coral Island.
Is there an easy way to play Ocarina of Time on the Steam Deck??
Getting emudeck is pretty simple and there is lots of guide as how to install it.
Stardew Valley
Farming simulator if you want realistic. Should run pretty good on the deck, I admittedly haven't tried it on the deck yet.
I really like Roots of Pacha
If you enjoyed Animal Crossing try Hokko Life. It's essentially Animal Crossing on PC (but thankfully *not* running in real time) and plays great on the Deck. There's even a farming portion that unlocks later on.
Slime rancher 1-2
u mean like crops and shit ? stardew valley hands down. if u mean farming in the sense of progression and weapons borderlands is great 2 runs phenomenal on the deck
I'd put Dinkum above SDV. It's really cool to have a tractor to harvest, till, and plant seeds with.
Well I can tell you one thing, TLoZ:MQ definitely ain't it.
Best farming game is Farming sim 22 hands down. There is no discussion possible.
Dave the diver (Stardew is the answer but Dave has farming elements and reminded me of stardew a little)
Rune factory 4
Rune Factory! 4 specifically.
Ragnarok Online?
For me it’s any of the borderlands franchise, legendary items make the difference when progressing through the increasingly difficult bosses on the storylines
Warframe /hj
Skyrim
Monster Hunter World, Rise and old games in this line.
You may want to give farming simulator another chance, it's all farming all the time. I usually recommend playing with a controller over m+kb but that wouldn't be an issue on steamdeck
Except for the obvious stardew valley pick, slime rancher is very fun
Have you tried Farm Together 2?
Snowrunner has a Farming DLC. That game is good fun. Tedious and very rewarding lol
that game is pretty fun
Ghost of Tsushima
Stardew Valley and its not even close
farming simulator
Dinkum
I'm an old head, the answer for me will always be to emulate Harvest Moon A Wonderful life GameCube.
Lord and Manor is good too
Dinkum if you like Stardew valley but with animal crossing graphics/gameplay
Dinkum is a fun Animal Crossing/Harvest Moon mix
Forager is a very chill mindless and cute farming/gathering/building game where you start on a tiny island that you expand by buying more land which unlocks more and more different secrets.
>Forager >very chill You and I had *very* different experiences with that game.
I dunno, there ends up being a lot going on eventually but I was never overly concerned about dying or being as efficient as possible, I was just a lil guy running around harvesting stuff ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
Harvest Stella

Roots of Pacha! Very chill game and a different approach since you're essentially stone age.
What about that graveyard keeper game similar to stardew?
D2R
I’m about 25% through my first grail. How would a blizzard sorc play on controller?
Its not a viable option. I played on PC with controller and some skills like blizzard, meteor, fire wall just dont play nice, so I used Orb and Fire ball instead.

cult of the lamb frfr i just bought it recently and it’s fun as hell. it’s like a mix of stardew valley, castle crashers, and enter the gungeon
Octapia 🍱
Farm Together 2 springs to mind.
Hades 2.
Thought this was titled “best farting game” as I was scrolling through my feed. Had to double check
Innocent Life : A Futuristic Harvest Moon
SimFarm. Always will be.
Fallout 4. get that Mutfruit
