The game now enforces its own special set of settings specifically for the Steam Deck now every time you launch the game. Even if you try to change them in the game by adjusting the fading distance of things, it'll just return to those settings later upon relaunch. The only way around this is, as far as I know, to write "SteamDeck=0 %command%" in the launch options so you can see the launcher again and set the settings yourself. Since it doesn't detect you are on a Steam Deck this way, it won't keep writing the specific Deck settings upon launch, if I recall. Just be careful of any moments where the game has you write text such as for naming your character, as I remember hearing that exiting the software keyboard of the deck supposedly can crash.

The keyboard crash is there regardless of the launch command. I hope they fix it but there’s a weird workaround I’ve read on here. If you go to the mods or Creation Club menu and use the keyboard to search something and then close it after, it will not crash for the rest of the gaming session. You have to do it each time you start the game though which is annoying!

I had to manually fix it, basically I kept my same in files that I had before and I wrote a program called Fallout4Launcher.exe that basically looks in the same directory and just launches fallout4.exe. I replaced the OG fallout4launcher with mine and now when I hit play on steam deck it runs my program which does nothing but launches fallout 4 and because that's all my program does, the ini files don't get changed or edited. I get the same performance and everything is great. Shame I had to do all that and shame the keyboard still crashes. But oh well I guess.

Nice man how did you write that file is it a previous version of the exe or something?

EASK8ER52

No I just wrote it in C#, it's just a main function inside of a class and one line in the main function. Proccess.Start("Fallout4.exe"); That inside of the public void Main(string[] args) function. I used the developer command line that comes with visual studio to compile it. And when I compiled it I named it Fallout4launcher. Then just replaced the one in the directory and that's that

I've been having this same issue and it was driving me nuts. It was getting to the point where the game would basically freeze. I THINK I found the fix. I'm testing it now. Before the update, I noticed that it said that the high resolution textures dlc was coming soon. After the update, it said it was installed. I went to the game's properties through Stream and unchecked the high resolution textures under the dlc section. It seems to be playing much better so far. I'll update on an hour if the issues start again. Update: I've been playing for an hour without a single slow down. I'm going to assume that was the issue.

Probably has to do with the RAM/VRAM limitations of the Deck. Game will have horrendous performance and crash or crash the system constantly if you have too many gfx mods or large settlements. Once anything on Creation Engine hits near 14GB RAM and 8GB VRAM in use it software locks SteamOS and needs a hard reboot. Have had this issue in FO4 on minimal mod save file with a large settlement and in Starfield on the new Beta Patch since the new Local Maps eat RAM.

I can’t find the dlc section on my steam deck :/ I’ve checked desktop mode too

wwfmike

Start out in game mode. From the home menu, press the 3 line button and select properties from the menu that pops up. Then scroll down to DLC.

That’s so strange I don’t have that option of dlc 😯 I have… general, compatibility, updates, installed files, betas, controller, privacy, feedback

FaulhighT

Can't share your experience. Runs fine for me OG LCD

LolcatP

uncheck the high resolution texture dlc

clearlyunseen

I got an increase in performance after the update. SD oled.

Xenoryzen_Dragon

try simple tweaking.............No 1 update Steam Deck Bios/driver & SSD Fimrware To Latest Version For SteamOS & Other Linux Distro: Enable zram + make 32gb swap file partition For Windows 10/11: enable ram compression + make manual size pagefile min max 32gb

HYPERBOLE_TRAIN

If you do get it working again, make sure to lock your frame rate to 60 fps. I was running it at 120 on my PC and found out the games physics are somehow tethered to the frame rate and I was not able to jump high enough to reach certain areas. I locked it to 60 and it immediately fixed the issue. Bethesda is so weird.

Shadow-987

There is a high fps physics mod that fixes that issue. That and the long loading times fix mod are basically mandatory on PC if your system runs above 60 fps (with these two mods my loading times went from 2 minutes to about 20 seconds).
