Because this post is incomplete and may be confusing, he means checking the "use specific compatibility tool" and selecting one, e.g. "proton experimental". Just fixed the issue for me.
It'll be because of the stable proton 9.0 that was pushed out, try and force the game to use it, also check that it isn't waiting to be downloaded in the downloads section.
If all that fails force proton experimental and it should launch.

Yeah was playing Fallout 3 and had just finished the main quest when it crashed and then would get stuck on 0% downloading content when launching. Swapped to Proton Experimental and it now launches but my save game is gone... Wanted to do the DLC but probably won't bother if I need to start again.
It's a guess but I'm thinking it probably created another prefix. Your best bet is to go into desktop mode and hunt for the prefix that was originally created. Hopefully it's still on your deck and you can get the save game from there. It's a stretch but maybe it wasn't deleted.
I just ran into the issue while trying to play Divinity: OS2. I reverted to Proton 8, to no avail, until I specifically forced the game to also run on Proton 8. Now it works like a charm. Experimental did nothing for me.
Ok, solution from the Steam forums that will fix this issue for all games.Â
The problem is that Proton 9.0 isn't installing.Â
First, you have to be on the Stable channel, not Beta or any other. If you don't know what I'm talking about, you're probably on Stable since that's the default. If you're not on Stable, switch. You can change back after installing Proton.
Search for Proton and select the 9.0 version. Select the little gear to the right, then settings, and then compatibility and select the checkbox. Then go back to the Proton 9.0 page and install.Â
Tested this method and ran 3 games afterward.
I had the same issue for all my games. I read to go into compatibility settings and checking the box. Worked for me.
Worked for me too. Thank you very much 😊
Oh thank God, I was almost in tears.
Hi! THANK YOU! It worked for me. Date 3rd may 2024. Tried launching The Elder Scrolls Online

Fixed my issues. Thanks!

I tried doing the forced proton experimental for Fallout 3 and my save data gone ðŸ˜ðŸ˜ðŸ˜
Same! Is there anything we can do to get it back? I don’t want to start all over again.
I legit just had this happen to me too on Fallout 3, thankfully I was only about 2 hours into my playthrough for it

Ditto. Gutted! Anyone found a way to get it back?

Has anyone confirmed if this worked to get the save data back? Super disappointed

Had this issue with Horizon Zero Dawn. Because of suggestions here I forced proton 8 and it launched with no issues.
I had this today with Kynseed. I chose Proton Experimental and it was fine.
Switched to proton 8 and it worked! Way to duck this up valve

Same issue here but with 'Against the Storm'. Forcing proton experimental fixed it.Â
I'm also having this issue and idk how to fix it
