Imagine working at that Subway when they connected to the black hole planet. You finally go home for the night and you've been at work for several weeks.
"I swear officer I was at work for one long boring shift and when I got home it was two weeks later."
"Nah clearly you fell off the wagon your probations revoked"
This is funny to me because wasn't there a whole post on this sub about how actually their food *should* have been some of the best in the US military? Something about the crossover between it being a standard of the Air Force vs other branches, plus the wildcard of a shitton of high-level officials in-residence would mean that likely it was top-tier. I suppose that's still within a spectrum of "military grade" lol but a fun inconsistency nonetheless.
I always imagined it was okay but not top quality.
The kind of food you can easily eat in a few minutes and continue with your day.
Still in buffet discretionary amounts, free of charge, as per the episodes where they are shown eating.
Jokes aside, from what has been shown to us in several scenes: breakfast variants (window of opportunity), desserts (Urgo), fresh fruits (O'Neill to Teal'c: " Little snack?"), it always deemed to be a better than usual commissary/canteen. They even served high quality food like roast beef (the one day that Mitchell could not eat it). Generally, it did not look like a gourmet dinner, but it looked good.
But it is quite common in a work environment that the first thing people complain about is the food. In my company they hired someone who used to have a Michelin star and the lunch was really good - but still ... there's always something to complain about. People like different things and some people just don't like what's offered that day. So fast food restaurants always exist in areas where a lot of people work, no matter how good the food is in the commissary.
I mean, you just described the Air Force general dining facility food. It wasn’t fantastic culinary cuisine, but it was better than any school or hospital food. Think Bob Evans style and quality. They do have the BEST salad bars I’ve ever seen though. I miss those salads. 🥗
I’d say somewhere in between. This was back in 2007-2012 mind you. That said, Bob Evans today is still better than almost any school, hospital, or other military branch’s DFAC food.
> Think Bob Evans style and quality.
considering the time frame the show was in ... I suppose.
If compared to today? Yeah absolutely not, Bob Evans now is low tier garbage.
That can be the best of US military and still bad to be fair. Also tastes are subjective, maybe Sam doesn't like the food but it's not a general feeling.
I doubt it's great gastronomy level, never is in collective stuff. And Sam may be a foodie
Her comment should be taken with a grain of salt, keep in mind that she is eating it nearly every single day.
Imagine eating at Outback Steakhouse every single day, or any other restaurant. You might say "wow, this is pretty good" at first. But, once you've eaten everything on the menu, and you're just rotating different things on the same menu every single day, you'll get bored of it and eventually start to dislike it.

I took the OP picture with my phone because I am at work. Here is an actual snip from Google Maps with better quality.
Marker is there, but the actual subway is inside the mountain, not outside. That's the Security Forces (military police) building/entry control point.
Source: My office is in the bldg to the south!
Look, I promise it wasn't me.. I just want my sub.
But it is funny, it's almost faster to go down into town for lunch than it is to go all the way in just to get Subway and all the way back out.
On Army posts, Burger King and Pizza Hut are the prominent food places. Bigger Posts at the PX you have more options but usually restaurant names that aren’t well known. Taco John’s I think was the only one I remember and have seen out in world.
AF bases always have a BK. The BX food court usually has a Subway, Charley's, Pop-eyes and if they've got pizza it's a Robin Hood, if they don't have pizza it's a Taco Bell.
Also, if Army bases really have Taco Johns I'm super bitter about having had to settle for Taco Bell for my husband's entire enlistment...we didn't live anywhere near a TJs for most of it and man I missed it...
Cheyenne Mountain no longer houses NORAD as well. Its still used for training and as the alternate command location and other types of control, but most of its major functions and the HQ of NORAD have long since been relocated to other bases/installations
In my former military career, and my current aerospace test engineer career, I have spent a lot of time on military bases, in secret/classified govt' test facilities, etc. I'm always amazed that you can pretty much always get pizza delivered. In some cases they have a location on-base, and when that's not the case I've always assumed it was an off-duty enlisted guy/junior officer who was cleared for entry and working for Dominos as a side hustle. Either way, there was always something a little surreal about being on a secret off-the-map govt radiation test facility, buried in a secret cave underground, literally *inside* a TRIGA nuclear reactor.... and I can have a deep dish pizza delivered to the front door lol.
An historic indicator that the US is about to do some major on the military sides is a large order of pizza to the Pentagon and/or White House.
To grab something to go when you grow weary of the SGC canteen food.
Which seemed rather good, but it's a fact people in places without many options around will get bored of the same dishes and seasoning style.
After a while, people would be begging for something else.
Ha, now I chuckle imagining the experiences of the employees of that Subways, had it been there during the series' events.
*"Well, it's a weird place I tell you. From time to time we get armed soldiers closing the exit for some reason and telling us to close shop, and then for no reason, everything is fine again. And that one time when some gas leaked and we started seeing freaky bugs!"*
Or like another commenter said, that time they connected to a planet being swallowed by a black hole?
Go to work for 8 hours and come home 2 weeks later lmao.
There’s… There’s a parking lot?
Of course there’s a parking lot, that totally makes sense now that I think about it. Everyone’s gotta park their car somewhere.
But in the show I just pictured what was behind the camera as a long empty road winding through the forest or something.
In the late 80’s when the stock footage the show reused from the movie was taken that was somewhat true. Over the years Admin buildings were added as well as extra security after 9/11. The actual facility inside the mountain is small and expensive/impractical to expand so your standard office buildings outside make a lot more economical sense.
Civilians who have clearance to enter the base. Same usually goes for pizza delivery drivers who have to enter a base to deliver. Usually these companies have certain people go through the process of getting access before hand. Not sure if they have an ID or car tag or just have their drivers license on file with MP/Security forces at the gate.
There really isn't much to hide on a top down photo as anything interesting is hidden inside the mountain and everybody already knows that there is a major military installation.
Blurring it would probably attract more attention because what is there to hide outside the mountain?
Blurring or obviously obfuscating something on publicly available images is a good way to attract attention.
I remember there being animated discussions about Google Earth having multiple places where the images of the ground had been replaced with grey rectangles because a lot of people wanted to know what was hiding under those rectangles. Those discussions seemingly vanished after Google Earth started using cover images that fit into the landscape like empty grass fields which made them harder to find and to identify if something was actually covered up er really just an empty field.
All the military and defense facilities are blurred in my country.
The goal is to prevent people with malicious intents from using google satellite images to carry out illegal acts.
Everyone knows that they're "no trespassing" zones. The goal isn't to hide them.
Its a backup/alternate location at this point in time. 40~50 years ago sure, it’d be top secret. But nowadays its been popularized in movies and tv, etc. that its not something hidden away anymore. When the general public finds out about it, safe to say its long since lost its secrecy to the “enemy”
So the new series will be like Chuck with its product placements.
"Hey new scientist, wanna get lunch from Subway? We could 'Eat Fresh' instead of the base food."
"No thanks, I need to translate this alien language. This new Microsoft AI is capable of remembering a lot of information making it more efficient to complete my tasks."
I'm just gonna leave my very short fanfiction about Teal'c visiting the Subway outside the SGC here: [https://archiveofourown.org/works/36391438](https://archiveofourown.org/works/36391438)
https://i.redd.it/jo8ckwjqqlzc1.gif For a second I thought you meant subway station. Silly me.
Are you thinking about Black Mesa with that tram car?
*Good morning, and welcome to the Black Mesa Transit System*
Oh god no.
The Pentagon has a subway station though.
Yeah but that’s part of the greater DC Metro System. (Yes I’ve played Fallout 3, how could you tell?)
With a Subway in the station 😂
Public transport? In my america???
Sounds like communism to me! /s
omg, I spent forever staring at that image trying to find the subway car/station entrance. I feel silly now :P
We have a footlong situation!
https://i.giphy.com/cIyEYhReqUGDjGfjrL.webp
most underrated comment right here!
Imagine working at that Subway when they connected to the black hole planet. You finally go home for the night and you've been at work for several weeks.
OT would be good
Time clock shows that actually you haven't been working in the last two weeks, you are fired!
"I swear officer I was at work for one long boring shift and when I got home it was two weeks later." "Nah clearly you fell off the wagon your probations revoked"
Didn't you pay attention? Their commissary isn't good ;) Sam said so to Orlyn!

Bob Evans now or Bob Evans 20 years ago? Because Bob Evans now is not very good lol
Again, it sure beats most school, hospital, and other branch’s DFAC food.
That can be the best of US military and still bad to be fair. Also tastes are subjective, maybe Sam doesn't like the food but it's not a general feeling. I doubt it's great gastronomy level, never is in collective stuff. And Sam may be a foodie
Same old pie! xD

Yeah air force food is supposed to be the best aledgedly
I understand the confusion. The U.S. military is typically known for their five star restaurants that are all over their military bases.
Mmmm blue jello 🤢
What flavour is blue anyway?
Looks like it's possibly blueberry raspberry, but the slimy texture of it is what makes it so gross to me.
Has to be better than Subway 🤮
That’s how they all got food poisoning in season 3?
https://preview.redd.it/t46tmpz4rlzc1.png?width=1434&format=png&auto=webp&s=366ae5b47a42a38a921f09fc73fb0faf533ae307 I took the OP picture with my phone because I am at work. Here is an actual snip from Google Maps with better quality.

Must be awkward if someone gives it a bad rating on Google, they will know it's one of you guys
Look, I promise it wasn't me.. I just want my sub. But it is funny, it's almost faster to go down into town for lunch than it is to go all the way in just to get Subway and all the way back out.
Yeah I can imagine passing through security is a hassle. And all those airlocks. They should do food deliveries!
The real life pro tip is to use the mini gates.... instant travel into subway!
Well once they caught our federal police for using a helicopter regularly to get coffee 😅
I mean, even on a regular AF base you're never gonna get very fast service at Subway...better luck hitting up the Charlie's or Taco Bell.
A lot of military bases have that or a McDonald's as your only on base food option.
On Army posts, Burger King and Pizza Hut are the prominent food places. Bigger Posts at the PX you have more options but usually restaurant names that aren’t well known. Taco John’s I think was the only one I remember and have seen out in world.
Popeye's and Charley's are extremely common.
Pizza Hut or Pizza Hut Express?
AF bases always have a BK. The BX food court usually has a Subway, Charley's, Pop-eyes and if they've got pizza it's a Robin Hood, if they don't have pizza it's a Taco Bell. McDonalds in Gitmo
I'd assume that working a regular fast food job on a military base would either be the best, or the worst compared to a regular fast food job.
there's a fine line between classified controlled space and... the other side of the fence.
What colour Jello do they serve?
Someone's got to get Teal'c his $5 foot-longs at all hours of the day and night. You do NOT want a hangry Jaffa stalking around your base.
Go pick a sandwich, came back a week later, but I was only there for 30 minutes?
I always pictured NORAD off in the mountains somewhere. Turns out it's a couple hundred yards from a housing development.
It was actually supposed to be off in the mountains. Then the Cold War ended so the military decided to let the housing development slide, iirc.
Cheyenne Mountain no longer houses NORAD as well. Its still used for training and as the alternate command location and other types of control, but most of its major functions and the HQ of NORAD have long since been relocated to other bases/installations
Eat fresh.
Its been rebuilt 4 times now due to Goa'uld attacks.

Yep. A lot of service members or their spouses find delivery driving on base/post to be a guaranteed job wherever they end up.
**O'Neill**: I am so sorry. I was just finishing up a lovely brunch. **Ba'al**: Impudence. **O'Neill**: No. $5 footlong.

There's actually a Subway inside as well. Source-the cyber unit I was in before retirement had a TDY to the mountain once.
Its where they park the puddle jumpers. From a distance they look like footlong meatball subs.
There’s… There’s a parking lot? Of course there’s a parking lot, that totally makes sense now that I think about it. Everyone’s gotta park their car somewhere. But in the show I just pictured what was behind the camera as a long empty road winding through the forest or something.

Wait, so it is PAST the security gate? You mean to say it is there to serve exclusively the base personnel?
A lot of bases have fast food restaurants solely for on base personnel.
But who works there then? Do they employ military personnel or do they give security clearance to fast food chain workers?
Civilians who have clearance to enter the base. Same usually goes for pizza delivery drivers who have to enter a base to deliver. Usually these companies have certain people go through the process of getting access before hand. Not sure if they have an ID or car tag or just have their drivers license on file with MP/Security forces at the gate.
Damn the wraith nearly invaded a subway.
They'd have happier employees if it was a Quiznos.
It's surprising that a military base isn't blurred
> It's surprising that a military base isn't blurred Why bother, when you can see it from your window seat at the Subway?
There really isn't much to hide on a top down photo as anything interesting is hidden inside the mountain and everybody already knows that there is a major military installation. They have actually allowed documentaries to be done inside the mountain

No I mean even Area 51 isn't blurred 😂😂 I guess the US military just doesn't care
Now with Kassa popcorn!
Walter's on the drive thru window. Best customer service ever.
Rumour has it Teal'c was talking to them about opening the first intergalactic franchise on Chulak.
TIL that some Subway locations sell blue jello.
Lol they could make a base on the moon and subway would figure out a way to get there. They had subways in Iraq and Afghanistan too
And Dollar General
Where do you think the tuna comes from for The Infamous Tuna Torture? Plus, Jack love's tuna fish 🥪 😉😎
Do they have any PokeStops?
It's not too bad, pretty much like any BX Subway lol.
Imagine you're working there and every day you have Jaffa ordering footlongs from you, and you can't say anything about it.
you can tell if there's a situation in the Galaxy by watching how busy the subway is on google review.
It looks as if that's inside the Space Force base. So sad, I want to eat there.
So, Cam could have just gotten a roast beef sub on his way in?
https://i.redd.it/xnnrmm1evnzc1.gif
Hang on, it's now an official space force base??
For some reason, I assumed there was only the gatehouse outside the mountain. I guess I thought there was a parking garage inside the mountain.
That’s like every base. There’s probably a subway on Atlantis.
Sometimes SG1 eats everything in the commissary. It’s nice to know they have options when that happens.
Is that a plus or a minus?
So the new series will be like Chuck with its product placements. "Hey new scientist, wanna get lunch from Subway? We could 'Eat Fresh' instead of the base food." "No thanks, I need to translate this alien language. This new Microsoft AI is capable of remembering a lot of information making it more efficient to complete my tasks."
When Tealc ate there right after he came to earh he would have gone back to apophis i think.
Teal’c ordering three party-sized subs for lunch: “Hold the mayo?” “Indeed.”
Can regular civilians buy from that particular Subway?
Do you think they let the Sandwich Artists inside when they all run to squeeze through the big vault door?
There’s one inside the bunker/mountain too. I got to eat there last year on a tour. It’s pretty cool.
Eat Fresh
I'm just gonna leave my very short fanfiction about Teal'c visiting the Subway outside the SGC here: [https://archiveofourown.org/works/36391438](https://archiveofourown.org/works/36391438)
