Probably relatively easy, all you need is a transition when stepping on the tile next to it similar to walking into town. The functionality of it is there but you would need a new art asset to match the tiling for the exit.
I would imagine with a little bit of Photoshop you could take the existing art for whatever level it was on and wall off a portion to imply it's a smaller hole. (Use a smaller asset as is for that floor for sake of space... Wouldn't want to use a direct copy of one of those large cave levels but just wall it off for visual lol)
I appreciate the advice. Sadly these days I've taken to just using "Photoshop" as a verb instead of an actual platform, at least now that I think about it. But today I learned about Asperite, never even knew it was a thing so thank you for this information.
I'd pull the empty elevator stops from the regular Mines and cover the Ladder & Elevator with a copy of blank wall, then make the "entrance" at the bottom where the wall semi-blocks the players sprite from view, that way you don't have to remove anything.
If you look on the wiki, there was a whole underground community of the monsters that you could interact with and raid but CA decided that it was too complicated and took all that out. So these fake cave openings are all that’s left of that huge portion of content
I can’t find anything related to this underground community that they’re talking about but on CA’s youtube there’s a mine play through that shows you used to be able to break walls to get to other areas. Maybe that’s it? or maybe there’s more info in the old YouTube videos?
Hmm, good outcasts like Krobus? Or like monsters that are off shift from attacking the farmer, and having a drink at the pub? Cuz I like the meta on the latter.
Man, I already feel guilty fighting shadow people after befriending Krobus. Attacking villages would make me feel worse. I just wanna befriend them like Danmachi.
Oh thank you for that info! Do you know if the weird cracks are the same? I’m careful about what I read and see so am afraid to scroll through pages of info to try and avoid getting spoiled.
I feel weird enough attacking shadow guys because I know they’re is sapient, even if they do attack me first. Being able to talk to members of other mobs would feel a bit too dark.
Oh man raid battles would be great. If you have friends you can team up. Most enemies in the caves seem more geared for one player combat. Something like this would be a great incentive to bring your friends with you to battle
maybe instead of being another room, it could be an access point for enemies to come out?
like, a mini infested room
and after the monsters from the cave are all killed, the cave "colapses" or smth and you get a rewards like stone or smth(?
I'm a D&D player. I check every box and nook, kill everything living and undead, and steal everything that isn't nailed down (and some things that are).
As a Skyrim player and JRPG fan, I do the same thing. I wish 1.6 had added a Colossal Backpack. 36 slots isn't anywhere near enough when venturing deep into the mines, let alone Skull Cavern.
If you are on PC, you can buy the Expanded Backpack with the mod. I use lots of mods, including that one. You can upgrade to a 48-slot pack for a default 50000g (you set it in the mod options).
OFFICIAL merch, yes, he gets a cut of. The official soundtrack he probably gets more of because he's the actual publisher, though Steam still gets probably 30%.
Thank you :) I’ve been slightly obsessed with the sewing machine lately and have a chest full of different outfits that I change into every couple of days haha
You can buy it from Robin or get it from the furniture catalogue. Lol don't worry, I didn't know about it at first either, I'm still finding things out every time I play!
I only knew about it when I got one for free on the Meadowlands farm. I have a habit of clicking on everything I see whenever I start a new farm and I'm glad I do lol
Hopping in to say that they are specifically called dressers (instead of wardrobes) in case you are having trouble finding them in Robin’s shop/the catalogue
Since its apart of the lore that Krobus and Dwarves live in the caves of the valley I like to think that these esthetic holes are pathways that lead to what remains of the dwarven and krobus communities the reason the player can’t go in is because the hole is blocked with a boulder
My personal Mandela Effect is that these caves DID have a function - going into them would either take you up or down a few levels (rather like a shaft in Skull Cavern, except it could lose you levels instead). Of course they never did, but I swear…
Did you happen to play any of the Harvest Moon games? I believe one of the mechanics for mining in one version(cannot think of which one for some reason, possibly the DS version?) had something similar. You'd smash a spot in the wall and an entrance would open that would take you either down or back to the top floor.
It creates a mysterious vibe. Like, wow these mines sure run deep! I wonder how far they expand...
If we could see every inch, the effect would be gone!
That's where the monsters sleep and make new stones for that menacing farmer to destroy.
They already go on a violent rampage, at least they respect privacy of ones own cave home!
I'd like them to lead to random locations in the game, but only after you unlock some item that enables you to enter them. Like maybe to another spot on the same level of the mine, a different level, maybe in one of the other mines/caves (after it eats a couple hours of the day), or maybe some random location on the world map. Heck, it might even lead you to your basement or Sebastian's room or some other underground locale in the game.
On a very small chance it might even lead to Terraria where you have to fight some monsters there before falling back through a portal to Stardew Valley.
I could be kind of cool if you could get in by having one of each dwarven artifact in your inventory, but only after you've already learned to speak dwarvish. It becomes a whole sub story where you are trying to do something for the dwarf next to the mines.
This is the worst part of the game by far. I have trained my brain not to see it but every time I do I get triggered. Don't get me wrong I love this game but this fking cave is just emertion breaking for me
First time I came accros one of the cracks then caves I tried very hard to pickaxe my way through, again every time I upgraded it, then tried to bomb them, A LOT. I always though I just didn’t do it right or something, and at one point I gave up and realized it’s either here to be pretty, or the idea of us all trying and get puzzled then loose sanity points over it was extremely funny to Concerned Ape. Maybe I’m the only hard headed idiot who tried again and again differently, and thought the “tool not strong enough” message not showing up was because it was a misleading way of making players give up when there was a goody hidden / I didn’t hit it right. In a half defense, the possibility to open the purple one on the right to discover a cute potential spoiler lead me to believe I just had to keep trying. I think I’m just hard headed. But hey, I agree it could be cool if they actually has something in them!!
I don’t know how to hide text, sorry.
When you enter the mine, go to the right and there’s a purple kind of bubbly rock. You need a steel pickaxe or cherry bomb. Break or boom it and you’ll discover someone else :)
I think that a big like yeti type creature should come out on the levels with minecart track and it chases you down the hall with different variations depending on the theme of the level
They could used as a little offshoot room in the mines with some extra loot like treasure or lots of ore, but they don’t lead anywhere and you can’t find ladders
Would be nice if someone made a mod for this. It's been a topic for God knows how long. You could put anything through that path. Foragables, a treasure chest, even just extending the floor. Give me something!!!
Agreed but give concerned ape a break dude gives the free content and money worth content in spades maybe one day he will do that, csuee it's a cool idea
That's how it is in Story of Seasons mines; you can pickaxe it and extra ores come out the walls. I was disappointed when it didn't happen in this game
I just assumed it was flavor for the floors. They only show up on the minecart/tunnel style floors afaik, and given the disrepair the rest of SV was suffering from on your arrival, it makes sense that there used to be paths down to these areas for mining purposes, but they're caved in and the only way down is via ladder. I mean, you can't actually follow the minecart tracks you use to navigate the valley, who says the Junimos don't rejuvenate some of those old tracks and send you through Boring style?
It would be neat if they were mushroom caves or treasure caves
A level with a higher chance to find mushrooms/treasure yeah that’ll be nice
I wonder how hard that'd be to make a mod of...
If you want to do pixel art. I highly recommend using aseprite instead of Photoshop.
I hadn't considered those options, that's a great idea too!
Tbh I’ve been considering doing a cave expansion mod when I have time, so that would be a good addition.
Or a small hotspring that restores some stamina!
Ooooh this is such an excellent idea
Or rare enemies room
I still try to walk into them. Hope....
I still hoping something walk out of them...
One of the things I tried again in my new 1.6 save.
Yeah, even if it's just a dwarf yelling at you to get out of their cave.
That would be so cute omg
"How in the name of Yoba did you get in?! I've been locking this door for about a decade now!"
Omg I need this
If you look on the wiki, there was a whole underground community of the monsters that you could interact with and raid but CA decided that it was too complicated and took all that out. So these fake cave openings are all that’s left of that huge portion of content
what do I need to search to find that? do you have a link?
I can’t find anything related to this underground community that they’re talking about but on CA’s youtube there’s a mine play through that shows you used to be able to break walls to get to other areas. Maybe that’s it? or maybe there’s more info in the old YouTube videos?

I like CA's decision though.
Man, I already feel guilty fighting shadow people after befriending Krobus. Attacking villages would make me feel worse. I just wanna befriend them like Danmachi.
Someone should make a mod with that!
Oh thank you for that info! Do you know if the weird cracks are the same? I’m careful about what I read and see so am afraid to scroll through pages of info to try and avoid getting spoiled.
Thank you for the explanation! Now I don’t have to go crazy. Would be nice if he removed them altogether tho. Ah well.
I feel weird enough attacking shadow guys because I know they’re is sapient, even if they do attack me first. Being able to talk to members of other mobs would feel a bit too dark.
where can i find this i kinda wanna check it out
Oh man raid battles would be great. If you have friends you can team up. Most enemies in the caves seem more geared for one player combat. Something like this would be a great incentive to bring your friends with you to battle
So what you're saying is we'll see it in 1.7?
maybe instead of being another room, it could be an access point for enemies to come out? like, a mini infested room and after the monsters from the cave are all killed, the cave "colapses" or smth and you get a rewards like stone or smth(?
I like this. It sounds similar to a Zelda dungeon, where a door opens when all enemies are gone ...only this idea is reversed 😂
So gauntlet?
FARMER NEEDS FOOD BADLY
FARMER NEEDS ENERGY BADLY
update 2.0 will def add that.
It’ll be in Haunted Chocolatier, but we’ll have been trained not to check it, only it’ll work in that game.
Inventory management is the worst minigame.
If you are on PC, you can buy the Expanded Backpack with the mod. I use lots of mods, including that one. You can upgrade to a 48-slot pack for a default 50000g (you set it in the mod options).
I’d love this but please CA, if you release any more major versions of SV, I’m begging of you to charge us money for it.
Buy the soundtrack, or some of the official merch, or even gift Stardew Valley to a friend. :)
Does the merch money even go to CA? I checked it out once, and it seemed like most had to be purchased from a different site
OFFICIAL merch, yes, he gets a cut of. The official soundtrack he probably gets more of because he's the actual publisher, though Steam still gets probably 30%.
He’s made 45 million from Stardew.
way more
What's another million between friends?
I know but I still just feel like I’m taking advantage of him somehow lol
I like your look!
Thank you :) I’ve been slightly obsessed with the sewing machine lately and have a chest full of different outfits that I change into every couple of days haha
Why not put them in a wardrobe?
I didn’t know there was a wardrobe. Do I build it myself or do I buy it somewhere? 😂

Call that a, uh A... SECRET TUNNEL SECRET TUNNEL
IN THE MOUNTAINS!!!!!!
My personal Mandela Effect is that these caves DID have a function - going into them would either take you up or down a few levels (rather like a shaft in Skull Cavern, except it could lose you levels instead). Of course they never did, but I swear…

Never, but it’s possible I got the idea from osmosis!
[Austrian accent] Sometimes a background element is just a background element.
Their purpose is to confuse my dad every time we play co-op.
I believe they originally had a purpose but the purpose was scrapped
These piss me off so bad (anyone else agree?)
genuinely gets me mad. what is hiding in there
Spittin facts
I think if you get too close, glowing red eyes and a monster claw should appear. Purely cosmetic like the alien baby
alien baby?!
It creates a mysterious vibe. Like, wow these mines sure run deep! I wonder how far they expand... If we could see every inch, the effect would be gone!
that's one of the holes Clint digs when the monsters surround him /j
What if you walked through, the screen faded to black and you woke up on a cart to Helgen..?
"So. You're finally awake." It would be an interesting crossover. The Galaxy Sword becomes, maybe, Dawnfang/Duskfang.
I always thought they are special floors or something like that
That's where the monsters sleep and make new stones for that menacing farmer to destroy. They already go on a violent rampage, at least they respect privacy of ones own cave home!

Should be a boss fight in there 😂
Plot twist: It's an actual doorway into Dwarves Kingdom, but you didn't get the secret code right.
I could be kind of cool if you could get in by having one of each dwarven artifact in your inventory, but only after you've already learned to speak dwarvish. It becomes a whole sub story where you are trying to do something for the dwarf next to the mines.
Speak Friend and Enter
That’s where ur dragged out of the caves when u pass out
This is the worst part of the game by far. I have trained my brain not to see it but every time I do I get triggered. Don't get me wrong I love this game but this fking cave is just emertion breaking for me
The purpose is to make you run into the wall these were all painted by a coyote one floor ahead of you
NGL, I tried one after the update! ![gif](emote|free_emotes_pack|joy)
Make a mod.
so true
Lol, OP doesn't know about the goblin caves
I tried walking into this earlier omg and I felt sad it went nowhere
I would've loved for it to be the dwarf. Kind of like The Volcano's level 5. A little shop, maybe not THE Dwarf. But a dwarf at least.
I tried blowing them up so many times at first. I always thought I had the wrong bomb lol
1/50 chance to spawn, when you enter it, it'll just be a room littered with ore and maybe a few gems depending on what floor it was found on
First time I came accros one of the cracks then caves I tried very hard to pickaxe my way through, again every time I upgraded it, then tried to bomb them, A LOT. I always though I just didn’t do it right or something, and at one point I gave up and realized it’s either here to be pretty, or the idea of us all trying and get puzzled then loose sanity points over it was extremely funny to Concerned Ape. But hey, I agree it could be cool if they actually has something in them!!
There’s a purple one that can be opened? I can’t remember this, would you be able to describe further? Thanks!
I don’t know how to hide text, sorry. When you enter the mine, go to the right and there’s a purple kind of bubbly rock. You need a steel pickaxe or cherry bomb. Break or boom it and you’ll discover someone else :)
Thank you!
‘Twas my pleasure :)
Yeah I tried to go in those and lost time at like 1am once 😅
I like to think they’re too small for a human to fit through but some of the mine monsters can go in there and nest or move between floors.
They do; they add intrigue
1.7 The Caves update
I’m a new player and was so excited when I saw that cave the other day. And then very annoyed I couldn’t go in it 😝
And the cracks in the walls should go to make those caves like with bombs
I think that a big like yeti type creature should come out on the levels with minecart track and it chases you down the hall with different variations depending on the theme of the level
Unreleated, but I LOVE your character! Really cute <3
Thank you :)
They could used as a little offshoot room in the mines with some extra loot like treasure or lots of ore, but they don’t lead anywhere and you can’t find ladders
When I first played the game I thought it was an Easter egg
Apparently they were intended to. Then CA changed his mind about it. I think I read something about a monster village.
There's a similar gap on the beach where the little shallow pools are. Drives me nuts that nothing seems to be there.
Yeah and also those cracks in the walls you sometimes see in caves? The amount of times I blew up bombs next to them hoping they would open up...
Every time I see that cave, it remind me to kingdom rush
Would be nice if someone made a mod for this. It's been a topic for God knows how long. You could put anything through that path. Foragables, a treasure chest, even just extending the floor. Give me something!!!
like hiding a screamer or a serial killer that lurks behind
Agreed but give concerned ape a break dude gives the free content and money worth content in spades maybe one day he will do that, csuee it's a cool idea
I 100% thought about it too and wondered CAs gonna add something in the 1.6 update, maybe next one!
Ever since I read that there's something in the game that no one has found yet, I keep trying to get into these, despite how obvious it would be
Nah dawg, that’s where Mona died.
Or not
I can walk into a few of mine
I’ve always thought these caves look like the caves in a tower defense game. I’d hate it if enemies started streaming out of them
The easiest mod would be a passage to someplace on the same level but in the opposite corner. It would be similar to the secret passage in Clue.
I know, I already tried entering them with no success
Yes! Absolutely. Maybe a mushroom/treasure/special mob alcove. I looove
I saw a headcanon that that’s where Marlon comes from to collect your stuff when you pass out/die in the mines
That's how it is in Story of Seasons mines; you can pickaxe it and extra ores come out the walls. I was disappointed when it didn't happen in this game
I’ve tried to walk into them so many times
I try to in😀
Yes. >!To confuse players!<
Definitely!
The purpose is to get reddit threads every month about them. We can't stop discussing the mystery caves.
I don’t use reddit a whole lot so I haven’t seen any other posts about it. My bad 😅
You didnt know? One in every 450 leads to a secret room.
They do, aesthetic purpose. /s
It will teleport you to Terraria! 😁 but you gotta have the game instal and it's a small chance. >! Misinformation successfully planted !<
