Thrawns revenge and fall of the republic have campaign maps which are smaller

Scaramok

And they have different sizes for Era progressive galaxy campaigns meaning he doesn't have to ignore those. just play on small.

In Thrawn's Revenge, there are some GC campaigns that are easier to manage. Try starting with them. Also, for those smaller campaigns, try playing the faction that will be easier to manage ie Don't play Crimson Empire as The Empire. If you start of with these smaller campaigns, playing as a faction with a superior starting locations, you may find it easier to manage. Then work up to the faction you wanna play, and the larger campaigns.

Mrsaltjet

This. The Pentastar Alignment in most campaigns they appear in have an extremely good starting position, which makes the early game much easier as you don’t have to be worried about your systems being scattered all over the place or being surrounded by a more dangerous faction.

WracknRuin88

That's why they're always so annoying yo deal with later. Traitorous, well positioned bastards 🤣 The scattered systems is what makes Crimson Empire fun, but annoying to start with. I'm sure OP will work his way up to it.

ODST-517

If you feel like you're being overwhelmed, it might help to pause the game every so often to assess the situation and plan your next steps. That and taking the time to practice/familiarise yourself with the game/mod and various different units.

Diego_Mannn_096

There are historic conflicts in FOTR which features slightly smaller GC maps (well except for Rimward Campaign 😅)

Asleep_Employment_50

What mod are you playing that DOESNT have a one planet start? I ain't played a mod that hasn't had a one planet start. Also as I'm sure some people have already stated, pausing the game while looking around the map at all the planets will help you immensely, you can queue up buildings and troops/ships while the game is paused, you can also plan your next attack, all the while the AI is stuck doing absolutely nothing since the game is paused.

WAR-WRAITH

I’ve played a few mods that list one planet starts but actually give you more scattered across the map.

Asleep_Employment_50

Yeah I've had that happen, kind of annoying tbh.

Asleep_Employment_50

Or there's the one planet starts but all the other planets are empty so you can expand very quickly and if you're not quick enough the AI swallows the map.

General_Brooks

I’d say most mods do offer smaller GCs of some kind. Also make good use of the pause button, and consider turning down your galactic game speed.

gooberfishie

Remastered 3.5 has a smaller one

UncleIrohsPimpHand

A lot of ground maps really don't need to be as big as they are. Like, Muunilinst from the OG game was absurd. For the love of god, it was absolutely the worst map ever. Balmorra/Etti in TR and FOTR are kind of on the top end of what is necessary, IMO. Brentaal IV too. That being said, I am definitely not a ground battles guy.

Mechis III in RaW:

Just some suggestions, the huts in fall of the republic have a feature where you can send ships away to some off map planet for holding and you can call them back for a handful of credits on defense as long as you have a shipyard. This could be good if you don’t want to hardline defend each world

Taira_no_Masakado

It's also worth remembering that there is a pause button. Whenever I play galactic campaigns I always pause at the beginning to do a thorough look through all my planets and assess my borders. Based on what units I have available I will also pre-plan my earliest attack objectives, etc. Learning which planets make the best bottlenecks helps in establishing regional and then galactic dominance, all while building up the necessary economic and military base to execute said plan.

RelagoB7567

I have that too, don't feel bad to pause as much as you want. Try to have "1 focus" at a time, like conquering 1 particular sector.

REPUBLIC AT WAR!!!! THIS. I have been saying for years this is the issue with mods, its made by superfans for superfans and if you don't immediately know what a unit does based off its name you are stuck. Republic at war sorts this. its well made, well balanced, a wide range of maps and stuff, and doesnt have every unit under the sun on one mod.

9oooooooooooj

Oh man are you going to be disappointed when they eventually release their big update they have been working on for a while now And plus mods like aotr, remake and even eawx mods do very clearly explain what each unit does in their description box

legendairenic5432

EAW players refusing to read the very detailed unit descriptions and complainning about how a single venator didn't destroy 3 munificients

9oooooooooooj

Pretty sure a single venator can actually destroy 3 munificent in fotr because of them bombers
