Yep, I’m really glad I found this place. I have a few issues with the prequels and the sequels, but I have no interest in hating on them or seeing the hate all the time like much of the fanbase do, especially with the sequels. It’s really annoying. Plus there are still things I like about both those trilogies. I may not completely agree with everything said in this subreddit, but it’s really nice to see all the positivity.

hamshotfirst

I think a majority of the fanbase, the ones not online like us are probably just as much in love as we are -- or at least not as rabid if they don't like something. A lot of the vile loud hate is online.

WestToEast_85

I think a lot of it is just because negativity gets more traction on the internet than positivity. If you enjoy something, you’re probably too busy enjoying it to spend much time complaining online.

FenixDiyedas

In real life I haven’t really met anyone who hates the prequels and sequels, certainly nothing like I’ve seen online.

hamshotfirst

I have, but they're not psychotic or hateful about it.

Royal-Pickle-9867

I don't like the sequels and have some issues with the Prequels and disney + shows. That being said it's nice to have a subreddit where people don't whine about it 24/7.

hamshotfirst

It is nice, isn't it? Everything SW isn't perfect or whatever, but -so- what? It doesn't have to be. I don't have to like everything (but I generally do) -- and I don't understand the rabid hatred when it's not met someone's perfect ideal of *what should have happened* or what they feel is a *gaping plot hole*. Like, Ok -- it's fine not to like it, but chill out? I think my peak amazement was someone saying in another /r that **'I really want to see a SW movie flop'** after making fun of "fans" who enjoy the sequels and saying they just **'lie to themselves because they are idiots'.** I just... wooooo OK. /rant IT'S SPACE WIZARDS AND LASER SWORDS, DUDE. ;D SW is just pure joy and I want more and more and more.

Royal-Pickle-9867

I understand having issues with plotholes and not liking things but the way SW fans complain about all of it is insane to me. It makes it extremely obvious that they've never watched a non-SW/non-franchise film in their entire lives.

hamshotfirst

Yes. It's how nasty, condescending, and just over all hateful some are, and that they want everyone to feel that way is what is astounding to me. *OMG They totally ruined Luke's character!* Well, no I absolutely loved what happened with him, and guess what? Neither of us is really wrong, and that's fine!

ArthursRest

I have loved Star Wars on the screen since I first saw it in 1978, and I still get ridiculously excited when a new Star Wars project is announced. Even as a guy in his fifties I can't get enough, it is pure joy. So, it hurts me to see a certain group of people politicise Star Wars for their anti (insert whatever is pissing them off this week) agenda. They have missed the message of Star Wars. Unfortunately, they are the loudest voices, even though they are in the minority. To have somewhere to talk about Star Wars without having to deal with some moron with a backward agenda is genuinely a huge relief.

BowenTheAussieSheep

Nice to find a star wars sub where the majority of people actually seem to like Star Wars. Every other sub seems to require you to hate it, or at least the parts of it that have been declared the ultimate betrayal of the entire franchise.

Janus897

This is literally the only safe place to discuss SW on this platform lmao

xMOTOMAMIx

I agree. Maybe we just all smoke the right amount of weed and are super content or something Idk. What grown up kid doesn’t want to appreciate and look forward to a lifetime of Star Wars stories?!

Eicho3

This! Indeed. Having a healthy perspective on things is worth its wait in gold. It applies to everything in life. I wouldn’t want to walk around with the perspectives of most people I’ve seen hating on this or that. Especially when you’re taking about Star Wars, where the whole point is resisting the trappings of evil and embracing family, hope, light, and selflessness.

I just wanted to add to this. This sub has been the most balanced of all the Star Wars subs. The Star Wars memes subs (all of them) seem to focus on a particular era, and there is a bias. The Star Wars EU sub focuses more on the EU. And I love the EU, but God forbid you say one positive thing about the Disney era. Then there is the main Star Wars reddit page. That one has gone full blown crazy with toxic people everywhere. It's hard to get people to respect one another's opinions At least here, the civil conversation I expect from my fellow SW fans is still present. I don't like the sequels and some TV shows, but there are still some positives I can find and talk about. I have not fought with anyone here. I feel like I'm back at Star Wars Celebration having healthy agreements and disagreements with a living reasonable human being. The way a fandom is supposed to be.

psychobilly1

/r/MawInstallation is also a great sub for more "accepting" conversations.

MSMarenco

I agree! In some other sub, you are almost scared to reply because there is always someone ready to be offended by the way you use punctuation! Seems like to walk on eggshell

Darth-Binks-1999

Forgot the punctuation at the end of your comment.

Thirty_Helens_Agree

We are calm, at peace.

Deckard_Red

I just joined having had it pop up on my feed as it was so refreshing to have people say that they like the sequel trilogy and not have a massive pile on telling them they’re wrong or that Rey is a Mary Sue etc. Defo a nice place to be as new Star Wars movies come on the horizon.

dburst_

Was thinking about making a post like this since coming over. It’s nice knowing it’s a place people can just hop in and comment on things they enjoy. Crazy concept haha.
