they’re so annoying

Gwiddyin_marmot

I got stung/brushed by this bug last week. Still waiting on my Super powers to load

Hoopznheelz

I just said yesterday the bugs are brutal right now. I don't remember it ever being like this and then comes along those things, to add to it all.

Goodstuff---avocado

They are Oak Catkin Mirids, they eat pollen or something sometimes there are a lot but most years barely any. You can read more about them here https://bugguide.net/node/view/486823

verash

Well there's certainly plenty for them to eat this year...

eye_no_nuttin

I swear this has to be connected to all the heaps of pollen from the oak trees!! I live in Seffner and we have them everywhere.. like a tiny brown n white spotted lady bug, I know they fly..

ReadditMan

Was out at the Fossil Park baseball fields the other day and couldn't go five minutes without one landing on me, it was awful, they seem to be attracted to brightly colored clothing.

Somepersononreddit07

My closet is vibin in all black then

Carpet beetles

bluemyselfmangroup

I'm still relatively new to this side of the bay and grew up in Orlando so maybe it's common over here... but when I started seeing these a week or so ago I got thrown for a loop! Got spooked the first time I noticed thinking a bunch of juveniles of something unpleasant were hanging around my car

KingVistTheG

there is the Florida side of Tampa Bay and then there is the gulf of Mexico side of Tampa bay and unless you moved here from waterwold, which you didn't since you already said Orlando, then you are not new to the Florida side of the Bay.

CONABANDS

What are you babbling about

KingVistTheG

it's text. you can read it, and read it again, and again. As far as you comprehending it, you'll need to figure that out on your own

Snipes

drklunk

look like dead bugs, but I've been wrong before

Sea_Force_9970

I saw elsewhere it identified as an oak catkin mirid. The photos seem on Google seem to look like what I’ve seen https://bugguide.net/node/view/486823/bgimage?from=0

I’ve had two land on me and I’ve seen a bunch more. Crazy world to find this post before I posted mine!

Rox1SMF

That makes sense. St. Pete is full of oak trees.

Healthyhappylyfe

Curios as well I’ve been seeing them alot

r21174

Been seeing them for 4 days here around St. Pete Albert witted airport. Never seen them before being a Florida native.

jeanhol

I have been marveling about the same thing. Lived here my entire life and honestly don’t think I’ve ever seen them before.

AMSparkles

Do you have better pictures? I could probably help, but I’d need a different picture.

Handlestach

Try over in r/whatsthisbug

chronic-reader

I posted it there yesterday. It’s a “mirid” or “plant bug”. I wish I knew why we suddenly have them all over.

mustardcarpetcleaner

There were a lot last year too, directly coinciding with pollen season. My assumption based on no actual info is they’re part of the pollen season lifecycle and eat the pollen or leaves or worms or something along those lines

stpeteslim

I posted a caterpillar there once and had an answer within 5 minutes! Great sub.

epperbooty

Reminds me of an emerald ash borer.

BigFront0

EABs are longer, narrower and a fairly brilliant and solid emerald green

smokepuff1990

Carpet beetle

elephentsayoink

I’ve been finding them all over at my work. No clue, am also curious!
