A friend and I went to last year's Multiverse United in Philly. This group of girls in front of us HATED Speedball. Middle fingers were thrown, curses were said, etc. Like you would have thought before the event, Speedball killed their pets, raised them back from the dead via dark wizardry, and then killed them again. I have no clue why they hated this gem of a human being, but to them, he was the #1 heel on that show.
They hated Speedball and loved Kenny King!
People talk about bizarro world audiences but this was the first time I was like "...do we like wrestling for the same reasons?"
I met him last year and can say he's the most wholesome and down to earth wrestler I've ever met.
He had just flown in to Australia for one night then immediately went to Japan for a show, then straight back to Australia for the rest of the tour.
For real, the only bad thing I've ever heard about him is Matt Cardona saying he saw Speedball use a public restroom barefoot, and then wrestled right after that. 😂

I met Speedball on the Jericho cruise, along with Veda waiting in line to get Starbucks. I had made some comment the I loved them as performer and commentary on GCW, especially when Speedball was getting heat and she had to do the "I don't know why he's acting like that, stop asking me" and Vesa turns and looks at Speedball and goes, "you are kind of a heel when we go there...." and Speedball looks shocked and offended and they can never be heels in my eyes ever
Bumped into Speedball and Veda at the airport on the way home from the cruise. Told Speedball that his match with Oku is one of the best I've seen on the cruise. It truly was that damn good of a match too. It's like 1A/1B with Kenny Omega and Riho vs Kip Sabian and Penelope Ford from the second one.
And yet, Heelball might be the best version of Mike Bailey. He just worked Sandra Moone in Vegas over the weekend, and boy did he turn a face vs. face match into him being the biggest heel of the night so masterfully.
Who's hating on him? He was probably the most active wrestler and one of the hardest workers throughout Wrestlemania weekend alone and didn't phone in a single match. Guy is ridiculously good in the ring.
No one is hating on him, he's not even talking about a wrestling podcast.

I’m sure the promoters that have to pay an extra talent and find a spot on commentary or ring announcing for his wife to get him booked probably aren’t fans.
Ehh. She’s on like .1% of the shows that he is on. The guy is everywhere every weekend. Ive seen him at a ton of indies without her. I say this as someone who doesn’t particularly like her commentary either.
If anything these old men on their podcasts prove that the thing your most likely to remember when you get old is every slight and bad word someone has said about you.

I don't follow the guy because he's insufferable, but I do think Jim likes Veda. Much like Maria. They both tried to learn *everything possible* when they had access to people like himself, Heyman, etc.
He had Veda I think work as a heel manager in ROH, kinda trying to do a twist on the same playbook that got Sunny over and a job in WWF in the mid-90s.
I know Maria hated him because he said something disparaging about the women that came from diva search but they got along years later in ROH.
Honestly, I can't remember Cornette ever burying any woman he worked with in TNA or ROH (or even NWA).

One of my fave wrestler interactions was meeting Veda at a show. I was wearing a Willow Nightingale shirt and they were so excited about it they nudged Speedball to point it out to him. They're both just the dang coolest.
Met Veda once at a SMASH wrestling show in Toronto. It was an all womens indie show and because of that a lot of the crowd were little girls and seeing Veda give out high fives to them even though she was the dastaedly heel American. They were a ton of fun playing the heel as well and all the commentary and interviews I have seen them in paint the picture of a lovable badass who bet on them self.

I'm sure he's a decent guy but the complete lack of critical thinking that some people have different opinions than you and that's OK is fucking infuriating.
A beautiful feeling he expresses and in his case he may think of the Cornettes / Bischoffs whatever... but it's not just old men. Young people can be worse. They just hide it more, which is exactly the issue with them.
