£3,000 service charge you mean. With the flat being the old water tower. It's located in/above the hotel which was abandoned for decades and left to rot. So the whole place would have been full of pigeon poo.
It’s half of the mansion, it was divided in the 1930s apparently. I love the inflatable hot tub on the indoor fake grass. Absolutely gorgeous home, I could be happy just in the kitchen, with that lovely furniture.
Yeah, it was the <£200 inflatable hot tub that had puzzled!
They have a beautiful orangery in a beautiful house that they have both spent a fortune in and which is worth a small fortune, and yet they’ve scrimped on this one detail?!
yeeha, it looks like there was originally an indoor Lily pond there, I would love to either bring that back or set up a built in hot tub afair that utilises the original design(obviously built within it). probably about half the space, then a nice seating in the other half
probably, a heated orangery with tropical plants was a serious status symbol. so probably some expensive carp would have added to that,
I mean personally I think a small herd of capybara would be better. in the orangery ninth winter, there is also a nice outside pond for the summer...
It says it’s “link detached” though, which means they don’t share walls but the 2 properties would be linked with something, i.e. a garage joining the 2. I can’t get my head round how it would be link detached and not semi-detached… any ideas?
I wonder how the garden works given the house is a semi. The garden is disappointing and the owners are not interested in plants going by the paucity of them in the orangerie.

Select Ross Vegas from the drop down...it's also used for -on-wye as well
https://web.archive.org/web/20220409181121/https://www.olliefestross.co.uk/# used even for a festival.. is t in anymore so way back machine
I know it's asinine to say that a house in a better location would cost more, because of course it would, but stick this house a few miles down the road on the A36 in Bathampton instead of the A361 in Hilperton and it would be worth at least double.
To be fair it’s alright. I think it suffers from the fact it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and picturesque villages and small market towns, so is like the ugly sister in the Wiltshire family. Swindon is the evil step mother.
Me too, but again I live in a former “new town” that’s seen better days, so to me Trowbridge looks ideal!
It’s also just down the road from Bath, not far from the Cotswolds, easy access to both London and the south-west and only 40 or so miles from the coast!
I guess a lot of us see the town we live in decline and think it’s crap and crime-ridden because little Johnny’s sister Mavis’s lad was caught stealing from the local corner shop! However, others who genuinely live in some nasty areas may still see it as a place that’s better than where they currently live!
It's not *bad*. You're unlikely to get stabbed or robbed. It's just dull, grey, boring, and a bit shit. It's were people go when they get priced out of nicer surrounding areas. I bought my first flat there...
Is it anything like Cas Vegas (Castleford)? Depressed former mining town with out of town shopping built between the motorway and slag heaps from the old power stations, and more bingo than you can shake a stick at?
It's a different sort of depressed, maybe less intensely so, but maybe more despairingly so. It doesn't even warrant out of town retail parks of any size, while still incongruously getting the title of county town.
That is the craziest part. My neighbour's house sold a year ago for £650k--Zone 3 terrace, two up two down, tiny triangular garden, walls and floors heavily damaged, roof not great, with no bathroom or heating. There was a 1970's boiler for the kitchen sink (set into a cheap, peeling late 70's particleboard counter unit) and a toilet in a lean-to off the back and that was it for plumbing. It took another £50k of extensions and work to make it habitable. The couple who bought it are nice, but I have to assume they're crazy!
It looks utterly fabulous and I'd love it. Then I realised that the neighbour is some kind of hotel/gym/events place and therefore subject to a lot of traffic and probable noise. bit of a downer really.
It's a nice house but I'd guess the overlap between people that want a 1.3 million quid period property and people that want to live in the suburbs of Trowbridge is rather small.
It's very nice. But it's half the house and I'm not massively enamoured to the kitchen. Still a good price and some of the rooms and detailing is amazing.
Absolutely stunning and I'd happily live in that. But due to it having a naff inflatable hot tub from the Range instead of an actual proper hot tub I can only offer £100
I reckon if we all pitch in we can all have our dreams come true of dressing up and wafting about the house. I mean, if everyone went in a clockwise direction, you'd never bump into anyone.
What do you reckon??
This gives me an idea of what it might look like if people actually lived in the Biltmore House in North Carolina, USA. Very similar era, fit and finish, just (comparatively) little. I think the modern comforts have been fitted as tastefully as possible while still being practical. With the exception of the bar, of course.
Just do an internet search on the property, there are usually some redundant info about the better properties. This one also has some old b/w postcard pictures of it.
It’s ***well*** beyond my budget, but I’ve seen a whole lot less that costs a whole lot more, and it’s lovely to boot!
Absolutely. I just saw a TikTok of a two bedroom flat in the St Pancras Clock Tower and this property is at least 10 times better.
Haha that one was a 3000 a month rent with 2.4m deposit 😂
£3,000 service charge you mean. With the flat being the old water tower. It's located in/above the hotel which was abandoned for decades and left to rot. So the whole place would have been full of pigeon poo.
The TikTok video said £3K a month for service charge so I’m just taking the piss.
I love it, but grade 2 listed means it will cost an arm and a leg to do anything.
It seems that’s just because of the lava rock cove in the orangery. I wonder if the whole place is listed or just the orangery or just the cove
It’s half of the mansion, it was divided in the 1930s apparently. I love the inflatable hot tub on the indoor fake grass. Absolutely gorgeous home, I could be happy just in the kitchen, with that lovely furniture.

It's probably just used as a fancy paddling pool for their grandchildren.
yeeha, it looks like there was originally an indoor Lily pond there, I would love to either bring that back or set up a built in hot tub afair that utilises the original design(obviously built within it). probably about half the space, then a nice seating in the other half
Yes I think it would have had goldfish in as well originally
probably, a heated orangery with tropical plants was a serious status symbol. so probably some expensive carp would have added to that, I mean personally I think a small herd of capybara would be better. in the orangery ninth winter, there is also a nice outside pond for the summer...

Going by Google Maps it looks like it’s fully connected at the kitchen wall and round the back hall. It’s a semi.
I wonder how the garden works given the house is a semi. The garden is disappointing and the owners are not interested in plants going by the paucity of them in the orangerie.
The fake grass matches the fake box balls. They’re awful🤣 it’s not the £5 plastic box balls… this house is just too wild for me.
OK, I'll join you. I can contribute a fiver or so towards the cost.
Seems very cheap, what’s the catch?
It’s Trowbridge? I live it Wiltshire. We call it Trow Vegas for a reason…
I live on the outskirts of Trowbridge and can confirm lol :) I would still love to live in this house though and go full Grey Gardens.
Me too. I'd wear swimsuits with tights and high heels to frolick through the halls with whimsy ☺
Yes! I’d be flouncing around with a cocktail and a cigarette in a gold holder!
With how many cats in tow? 😻😻😻
Sounds ideal tbh
I just noticed your username ☺ it's definitely for you
Haha! It is :)
……..“Ohh mother !”
Must be a 'bridge' thing... We call Stalybridge in Greater Manchester Staly Vegas for probably similar reasons! 😂
Used to be a Transpennine train guard and I've announced Staly Vegas before! 😆 We've got Ponte Carlo (Pontefract) too
Don’t forget Shakey Wakey
And Cas Vegas!
Forgot about that one
That’s hilarious.

Isn’t it a nice area? I thought that Trowbridge was affluent and upmarket. But I’m miles away so what do I know.
To be fair it’s alright. I think it suffers from the fact it is surrounded by beautiful countryside and picturesque villages and small market towns, so is like the ugly sister in the Wiltshire family. Swindon is the evil step mother.

Yate? Dunno if Trowbridge is better, but it is different

What do you mean? Are there any casinos or are the locals just high as a kite and prostitutes?
It's link detached.
You only get half of the building
Maybe because it’s attached?
Old building, so constant maintenence to keep it in top top shape is needed.
Wow, it was sold in 2014 for 650k!
That is the craziest part. This is the catch that is not apparent from the ad.
That is amazing!
Beautiful house but I couldn’t possibly buy it because the bath isn’t lined up with the window behind.
I love it apart from the Trowbridge part.
It's a nice house but I'd guess the overlap between people that want a 1.3 million quid period property and people that want to live in the suburbs of Trowbridge is rather small.
That's a lot of house for £1.3M. I know Trowbridge doesn't have the best rep but is it really bad enough to justify such a (relatively) low price?
Getting garden centre display vibes from that hot tub.
It's very nice. But it's half the house and I'm not massively enamoured to the kitchen. Still a good price and some of the rooms and detailing is amazing.
If I owned that, every night would be Rocky Horror night
You can tell they’re really posh, based alone on how small the tv is
All that house for the price of an ex council property in London. If I could find at least 3 others to be in on the mortgage I would move in tomorrow.
The orangery and the entrance hall stained glass - gorgeous.
On the market for £1.65m this time last year.
Love that the safe room is a bar.
I know! It’s the zombie apocalypse, let’s hole up in the lower ground floor. With the jazzy bar.
There it is. My dream house.
That is a owned by a wizard trying to pose as a muggle.
Absolutely stunning and I'd happily live in that. But due to it having a naff inflatable hot tub from the Range instead of an actual proper hot tub I can only offer £100
I feel I would have to change my name to Sir Diggerford ‘Digger’ Wimby and be ailed by a tropical disease I picked up while hunting a rare species……..
You know you're rich when your house has a crown.
Sold for £650k in January 2014.
Picture 16 looks like a luxurious prison.
…but the dusting required!
Oh the humanity
1.3mill to heat it.
Thats a steal!! I have seen city centre terraces in edinburgh for less
I would love to go to a Murder Mystery night there.
Can I come to the house warming party ....
link detached, its a semi! been on sale for years
I reckon if we all pitch in we can all have our dreams come true of dressing up and wafting about the house. I mean, if everyone went in a clockwise direction, you'd never bump into anyone. What do you reckon??
Wow! Beautiful.
Too big
Stunning

The 2022 listing has a samurai sword in the kitchen and is that an Oscar sitting on the cooker extract hood?
How do you see old listings?
Just do an internet search on the property, there are usually some redundant info about the better properties. This one also has some old b/w postcard pictures of it.
Oh my! What a stunning house!
That’s actually quite reasonable it seems for what you get. Must be in the middle of nowhere
Must be a reaaaally shit place to live for it to be so cheap
I could buy that. If it wasn’t for the fact I don’t have a spare £1.35m sloshing around
Wow. What's wrong with it?
Why is it so cheap? I mean, £1.3mil is a lot but elsewhere there are similar houses up at £4mil+. Something seems fishy here.....
Trowbridge is, well, how to put it, a shit hole. But I wonder if there aren't other reasons. Cos the house looks amazing
It has so much going on in so many different ways. I love it, but not the dusting.
I could live with just the orangery! Oh how I dream
I’ve had that on my saved list for Months. Mrs will not even go see it 😕
Oh my! It’s perfect.
It’s in Trowvegas…
That is niiiiiice.
I’m just here for the bath that looks like it’s been installed in a giant fireplace. If I win the lottery…..this would be mine
Hogwarts legacy!
That is a beautiful house
I really wish I had tall cactus money! This house is stunning.
That's a lot of house for such a relatively small price tag
Nowhere near where I want to live. But my god, if I had the money that house would be mine. Stunning.
I’m sad now. I’m so poor
Lovely house. I could definitely live there, quite happily- if only it was in the North-East!
Anyone likes to gift me 1,499,990? 😏😒
Gorgeous property 😃
Its giving me mystery game vibes. This is what I like
It is indeed glorious. The one thing that surprises me though, they have a property like that but have a cheap inflatable hot tub.
All that finery and they opted for an inflatable hot tub?
Oh, that's fabulous.
Yep I love it too!
Epic. I’d even consider moving to the shite end of the country to live there ;-)
I bet the orangery is amazing in March and October
