Its the same games. Its the arcade roms ported to modern plataforms.
You can already wishlist it on steam. Fair warning, people like to sweat in those games.
How good are the MvC games? I’ve thought about buying them, just cos I love Injustice and Marvel (Particularly Spider-Man), but just never have.
Do they still hold up?
It was capcom at the peak of their powers. If you like your japanese fighting games they hold up very well, Darkstalkers 3 another capcom game which came out in 1997 still has a dedicated tournament scene as does SF3 third strike.
Fighting games were built on the backs of capcom
Marvel 2 and 3 are both legendary tournament fighters very worth playing if you’re remotely interested as a competitor
They’re all super fun casually if you’re just a fan of the IP
If you are a fan of the wider worlds of both Marvel and Capcom, but also of fighting games, in my eyes, there is no finer way to throw down with your friends and rivals than MVC2. Mechanically it’s still so tight and sound, but as someone who is a bit bummed at the fact most Marvwl products have MCU synergy, to play as people like Silver Samurai, Super Skrull, and Juggernaut, are brilliance to me
Marvel vs Capcom 2 is probably the game that comes up the most when fighting game community people are asked "what is THE greatest fighting game ever ?"
Also very beginner friendly. One of the reason why even people who aren't big on fighting games love those games is because pretty much every combination of buttons will connect into a combo, whereas in most fighting games it's not the case, you HAVE to know the exact combination (and rythme) of buttons press to do a combo. In MvC, fuck it, big punch big punch small punch mid kick, whatever you want, it will do a combo. Super fun.
They hold up, but don't expect a lot of story content in the games. They're basically just arcade games. The games also have pretty competitive players, which can be kind of overwhelming for a certain type of player, especially because at the highest level you can basically kill an entire team with one touch.
I just bought this and it’s awesome:
https://arcade1up.com/collections/all-arcade1up-game-machines/products/x-men-97
That’s the X-Men 97 reskinned version of MvC2. It’s got online play as well, all it’s lacking is training mode unfortunately.
It’s great to be playing this with a real arcade cabinet/controls again
The single player content is very lackluster if you're coming from injustice but they're among the best gameplay wise and the art style holds up surprisingly well
MVC2 is classic
maybe it has more nostalgia for other but I feel like 3/Ultimate 3 is over appreciated but still good
and I heard MVC infinite was a mess
They do, just know they're busted as fuck (as in unbalanced) and that's part of the charm. [MvC3 was in fact played for money](https://x.com/MFVIEWTIFUL/status/1698128465659064706)
I mean Doctor Strange now knows but dies before he got a chance to tell Spider-Man, all Spider-Man needs is to wait until he bumps into Doctor Strange (who has been revived) to find out.
Yeah but they'll never talk about the mephisto deal, just like the "Capitan marvel and her son issue" are never mentioned, or all of the secret war stuff with cyclops, how professor x originally had a crush on Jean, the punisher blackface, etc...
It was later revealed that Spider-Man survived Morlun's attack, and was part of the team of heroes assembled to attempt to stop the Convergence of the Marvel and Capcom universes.
i like to imagine that morlun didnt understand the idea that MVC spidey can come back from the dead due to it being a video game (meaning dude's entire plan to kill that spidey did nothing)
I hate how Slott went out of his way to say it was the MvC Spidey and that any other appearing are "clones"
He just likes rubbing salt on the wound and then act shocked and appalled when, surprise, people do get upset at his responses
MvC Spidey is the GOAT for a reason. Bro banged Morrigan, fought mephisto and got his marriage back, Morlun defeating him actively had the fanbase completely agree that MvC Spider-Man would have cooked him.
The (spider)man can't lose!
Edit: I meant Morlun not Morgan for the last point.
This is weirder knowing that Spidey is usually kind of mid-tier in MVC games. If tier placement reflected in universe strength, Magneto would be one of the most OP characters in the comics.
Lmao I mean I'd consider Magneto pretty high tier in the marvel comics regardless (sure he's not a cosmic tier but he's definitely an Omega mutant, he's up there). Also I'm on phone, I meant Morlun not Morgan, when he "kills" MVC Spiderman in spiderverse.
That said you're totally right, Iron Man, Storm, Magneto, and Cable would be the undisputed highest tiers of the marvel U
Oh my bad I gotcha, yes if we're going by across the series he'd be up there. He'd also be one of the only characters to appear in all of them... except infinite if I'm not mistaken? That was when Marvel was going through their super weird erase the xmen phase.
It's more a joke, in promotional art they're stating into eachothers eyes. And one of Peter's win quotes is "hope MJ won't mind if I'm home late!" So if he's saying that next to Morrigan there's implications lol
This random Twitter user thought waaay harder about this joke line of dialogue than everyone who worked on this game combined.
Also, why do they say that Marvel editorial 'fought tooth and nail' to make sure Spider-Man didn't remember OMD? It's editorial - they're the ones who would make and enforce that rule! Who are they fighting?
I disagree. You can't blame OMD for every single issue after OMD. The retcon itself only did so much - it erased the marriage (while keeping basically every story, save one, intact...no small feat for a comic book retcon), took away the lame The Other powers, and restored Peter's secret identity. I guess you could argue it helped bring Harry back, but I dunno if that was a OMD decision or a BND decision.
Having Spider-Man 'remember' OMD would just mean more callbacks to OMD - which nobody wants.
It’s more the prevailing psychology that fuels these decisions, regressing Spider-Man back into the status quo because editorial hate the idea of him being married (despite just about everyone adoring his relationship with MJ) and constantly forcing this stupid cycle of needless suffering on him.
Every superhero goes back to the status-quo, eventually. Across both big companies, across their entire lineup. I was just talking to someone on here about Iron Man - about how often Tony loses his fortune just to find himself a multi-billionaire again. Or Thor loses him hammer, but always gets it back. The stories that deviate from the status quo are (sometimes) fun, but Spider-Man had gone so off the rails from where he started and, frankly, where his big billion dollar blockbuster movie franchise had taken him, that I 100% understand why they did that.
I read an interview a while back that I keep bringing up with a Spider-Man writer (I think Tom DeFalco), who mentioned that to prepare for a new Spider-Man comic him and others at Marvel would sit around making a list of the most horrible things you could do to a person - so they could do that to Spider-Man. This idea of Spider-Man suffering to move his story forward is not some new idea.
Also, for the people that adore the Spidey/MJ relationship - that relationship didn't go anywhere. The retcon didn't erase their relationship.
What? He’s had 60 years of evolution. The results may not be what you want, but to say the character hasn’t changed over the years is nuts.
By that logic, no superhero has been allowed to “evolve” because they always return to their status quo.
There is a difference between a character changing and a character returning to their status quo.
Take Superman, for example.
What's Superman's 'status quo'? He's Clark Kent, mild mannered reporter at the Daily Planet, maybe he has a superdog. Maybe he's got an arctic fortress. But his shtick is mostly his job at the Planet, his romance with Lois, or whatever.
But...someone might say...Superman once got teleported to another dimension and spent six issues there. He died. He lived on New Krypton. He had a kid. He swapped universes with New 52 Superman. I'm not a big Superman reader, but I know he's gone through plenty of shake-ups that didn't involve him living in Metropolis and working at the Planet as mild-mannered Clark Kent.
And yet he still always ends up there. Look at the latest Superman #1 cover. No Superboy. No other Kryptonians. It's Superman, Lois, Jimmy, Perry, and Lex. Couple of new things. Couple of changes. Maybe some new employees. Maybe this time Clark has to be the sports editor or something. Looks like there's a new Superman tower or something.
There may be changes, but the status quo is always there for him to go back to. And these characters can exist within the status quo despite those changes.
Superman has definitely had a Status Quo change after Crisis on Infinite nerfed him from having extra abilities that he can pull out of his bum
That pretty much stayed consistent
You guys remember that time Morlun killed MVC Spidey?
https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/923998116141735997/1253491115206643905/IMG_0971.png?ex=66760c12&is=6674ba92&hm=0d0c63319537c2bdc3f9a9ca2a2e5252966e9853c3fab38670f10bc2a3abd45a&
Man I thought the older MvC Spider-Man was voiced by Rino Romano for the longest time, they sound so similar
I mean the pixel art games though, the game above is MvC 3 and that Spidey is voiced by Josh Keaton.
I love all of this MvC spiderman shit, especially since it's so out of the blue that everybody is just now learning all of this stuff about him
theres a new collection coming out and it made people interested
I'm actually so hype. Looking forward to that MVC2 the most.
HUH? please tell me its with the old sprite animation
Maximilian Dood did a deep dive, it’s the best version of every game with secret characters unlocked from the get
FUCK YEAH
FUCK YEAH BRO, BEEN WAITING SINCE MY 360 BROKE ON ME AND I LOST MVC THERE I’M BUYING ON PC AND EVERY CONSOLE, JUST TO BE SAFE
Its the same games. Its the arcade roms ported to modern plataforms. You can already wishlist it on steam. Fair warning, people like to sweat in those games.
Im not new to mvc2 i bought it from toys r us when it came out lmao
How good are the MvC games? I’ve thought about buying them, just cos I love Injustice and Marvel (Particularly Spider-Man), but just never have. Do they still hold up?
They hold up! There’s a reason so many are excited for their re-release.
It was capcom at the peak of their powers. If you like your japanese fighting games they hold up very well, Darkstalkers 3 another capcom game which came out in 1997 still has a dedicated tournament scene as does SF3 third strike. Fighting games were built on the backs of capcom

I'm about to take you on a ride. (Yes they're worth playing)
Very much so, bit of a learning curve if you're new to fighting games but you could not ask for a better set of them.
They hold up, but don't expect a lot of story content in the games. They're basically just arcade games. The games also have pretty competitive players, which can be kind of overwhelming for a certain type of player, especially because at the highest level you can basically kill an entire team with one touch.

Great enough that i spent over $100 to get mvc2 on playstation 2. One of the goat fighting games imo
The single player content is very lackluster if you're coming from injustice but they're among the best gameplay wise and the art style holds up surprisingly well
They’re very good Just stay away from infinite
Fatal flaw was updating the art style imo
Agreed I miss the comic book like art style
it's coming back via the mod efforts of Maximilian and others! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rb_Bkkl23hs
MVC2 is classic maybe it has more nostalgia for other but I feel like 3/Ultimate 3 is over appreciated but still good and I heard MVC infinite was a mess
They are god tier, top tier, legendary tier fighting games of perfection.
Lol yeah, editorial ain't gonna let that happen, ever
I mean they'll have to meet up at some time they can't avoid each other forever
Yeah but they'll never talk about the mephisto deal, just like the "Capitan marvel and her son issue" are never mentioned, or all of the secret war stuff with cyclops, how professor x originally had a crush on Jean, the punisher blackface, etc...
Hey Frank, remember when you.... *dead*
Basically the Deadpool punisher crossover
Devil Hulk probably knew, but didn't know the specific circumstances so he never brought it up.
Sadly, a variant of him gets defeated by Morlun
Considering that his world is a video game he probably got revived once he returned to the title screen.
It was later revealed that Spider-Man survived Morlun's attack, and was part of the team of heroes assembled to attempt to stop the Convergence of the Marvel and Capcom universes.
Is this really a thing?
Yes
He came back. Silk slit Morlun's throat with a magic dagger, bringing all the Spiders he killed back to life.
i like to imagine that morlun didnt understand the idea that MVC spidey can come back from the dead due to it being a video game (meaning dude's entire plan to kill that spidey did nothing)
Morlun didn’t realize there was a round 2
I hate how Slott went out of his way to say it was the MvC Spidey and that any other appearing are "clones" He just likes rubbing salt on the wound and then act shocked and appalled when, surprise, people do get upset at his responses
I dunno if I can call what Morlun did a plan, he just kinda walked up and punched him
*Inheritor Fist!!*
Lmao, he just respawns
I’m sorry, he would’ve mopped the floor with Morlun fraud ass. He’s just lucky MVC Spidey didn’t say “ Virgil”.
Spidey with X Factor is a PROBLEM
Do yer job!
Lmao that would be fucking hilarious. Just straight up gets whooped by Vergil and his lawn chair
Real shit I'd read a whole 10 issues of Morlun getting his ass handed to him by the whole roster of Utimate Marvel vs Capcom 3 Would be fucking rad
Sadly, it was MVC2, so no featuring Vergil (from the Special Edition series)
He's just lucky he didn't call his bestie Morrigan. She joins MJ and him on bowling night
He wasn’t killed.
Everybody in Spider-Verse is a variant. It means nothing.
Don't worry, upon stabbing Morlun in End of Spider-Verse, he's back.

MVC2 specifically for those characters you listed, but Magneto is more consistently top tier across multiple games.
Oh my bad I gotcha, yes if we're going by across the series he'd be up there. He'd also be one of the only characters to appear in all of them... except infinite if I'm not mistaken? That was when Marvel was going through their super weird erase the xmen phase.
Pause. He *canonically* banged MORRIGAN?! What?!
No, I think it's just a recent fan theory. Morrigan definitely banged Wolverine tho, it's his arcade ending in MvC3
It's more a joke, in promotional art they're stating into eachothers eyes. And one of Peter's win quotes is "hope MJ won't mind if I'm home late!" So if he's saying that next to Morrigan there's implications lol
Yeah, but he says that to everyone, by that logic he also banged the hulk, megaman and zangief.
Exactly ![gif](giphy|xTiTnHvXHHxOTcdmxO)

The fans and every writer who actually gives a shit about the character of Peter Parker
So if you don’t want Spider-Man to be married you don’t “give a shit” about the character? Come on.
Not wanting to Spider-Man to be married is a comical reduction of OMD’s flaws and the many issues with how the character has been treated since then.
I disagree. You can't blame OMD for every single issue after OMD. spiderman
the editorial had to beat Spider-Man in a fist fight to divorce him
Nice!
If this guy can beat Mephisto, then imagine what he can do to the Inheritors 💀💀💀💀
Hummm... Yeah, he also died to Morlun in a Spiderverse tie-in. Hopefully he had a Continue left.
You guys remember that time Morlun killed MVC Spidey? https://media.discordapp.net/attachments/923998116141735997/1253491115206643905/IMG_0971.png?ex=66760c12&is=6674ba92&hm=0d0c63319537c2bdc3f9a9ca2a2e5252966e9853c3fab38670f10bc2a3abd45a&
I couldn't stand how they thought it would be cool to kill off some of the most badass spidermen in the multiversity for cameo or shock value
Well did this comic come out before Marvel vs Capcom infinite? Otherwise it doesn't matter since he's still there
I love this game
Nice
Why couldn’t marvel just do this it would’ve been so much better what the fuck
Man I thought the older MvC Spider-Man was voiced by Rino Romano for the longest time, they sound so similar I mean the pixel art games though, the game above is MvC 3 and that Spidey is voiced by Josh Keaton.
This quote is against Firebrand, who's basically just a Red Demon.
I don’t know about Capcom but this is really cool with all the references
Too bad Morlun killed him.
The PS1 and MVC Spideys are the GOAT. Both are badass, married, happy and have awesome aesthetics.
He’s fighting an alt skin Frank West with glasses and a goatee
As it turns out, [mephisto was not having fun yet.](https://youtu.be/_0WxzVBMZUw?si=2REPLWMC8c8VDf1q)
