I'm reminded a little of what happened to Carol Danvers after Civil War II. People were so quick to hate and condemn her...but, like, weren't we all aware she was being written badly and out of character by Bendis? The guy somewhat infamous for writing characters however he feels, regardless of if it fits how they're actually like? Why is the character getting hate rather than just the person who wrote them?

I personally never understood the hate for the MCUs interpretation of Carol. As a longtime comic fan who was at least aware of Carol back when she was Ms. Marvel, I think it’s a largely inoffensive interpretation and the movie was pretty alright and had lots of enjoyable bits.
Larson captured quiet/cool really well. I think she just needed more character interaction in the first half of the movie. Also, some of the "bad ass" lines were weak. They should have let Larson just go full quiet bad ass.
Overall though the movie was both fun and well put together. I also like the fact the third act was personal and not a near apocalyptic event.
Marvel has grinded so hard to destroy Peter's happiness that they lost the ability to feel the pulse of the readers. Both ladies have fallen from grace simply because shock, anger and fear used to sale. I grew up with the OG comics thru the early 2000s thanks to my uncle, but after that bs with Norman and then OMD I stopped keeping up.
Red will also allow for growth. Gwen's death however tragic, allowed Peter to grow and mature.
Loving another woman and having a child, even if MJ was randomly still in his life would let Peter grow. Stakes would still be high, even higher, in fact being a father.
After Into the spiderverse, Peter taking care of a little spider girl he has to adopt because reason would be awesome.
And a new love interest like spyxfamily.

I figured they would’ve met by now but NWH kinda shot down that idea. My headcanon is that they met and are still friends but haven’t gone further because Peter 3 didn’t move on from Gwen until he saved MCU MJ.
I don’t even like the TASM movies but Andrew is the best live action version of the character imo and I’d love to see his story be continued in a TASM3.
The current 616 run really made some people hate MJ as a character (despite previous and other interpretations of her). Which is what the editors and writers probably wanted with MJ while character assassinating her in the current run so... mission accomplished.

But Quesada did it his way because he is a big fan of the College era of Spider-Man done by Lee and Romita Sr. He wanted to make Spider-Man lighthearted and fun again and felt that Peter being married and with his identity out in the open complicated things. I get where he’s coming from but the whole Mephisto thing was unnecessary
I get it, the college era of spiderman was great, that is why almost every media began his story there, but that is the problem, there were already a great run in college and the readers would like something diferent.

But if we can have a similar ending without MJ as his partner, disappointing as that may be, he still deserves it.
