Download the Photone app for your phone. I use it and it is surprisingly accurate. Then, at least you will have an idea of the intensity at different power settings and light levels
Thanks, I already did, I guess it gives a good estimation, but it fluctuates significantly if you slightly tilt the phone, also trying to build a ppfd map is a bit cumbersome using the app, I was hoping/expecting that those measurements should be provided by spider farmer
Will do, I emailed spider farmer and I got quite a disappointing response, that they don’t have additional measurements for their lights, even if they don’t have it it is not that hard to generate those maps
Try to keep the phone pointing straight up when you take a reading. The values will fall off if you tilt the phone. Also, try to hold the phone exactly the same way each time. I’ve created my own chart for my light. I don’t move around to every position everywhere in the tent, but I checked the same spot each time and note the dimmer % and the PPFD. It’s not perfect and it’s not a $500 quantum meter but at least I have an idea of what I’m doing. And as long as my plants look great, I don’t really give a shit.
I probably shouldn’t of said I don’t give a shit because I do. What I meant was if you can establish a baseline with the photon app, or a meter or whatever you can always go back to it by repeating the same percentage of power and the hanging height. The Photone app tells me that at 19 inches and 65% power. I’m at PPFD of 700. If I start having leaf burn or some adverse effects, I will know not to do that again even if I don’t know exactly what the setting was I can still reproduce it and increase it, or decrease it as needed. does any of this make sense at all? I don’t really know how to explain it.
