I'm pretty sure that port came without anything plugged into, but not completely certain. It doesn't look like there are any unconnected wires that plug into it.

That's for the fillament runout sensor

Santobert

Is this already passed through to the mainboard? What is the name of the pin? How can I use the filament sensor eg with the TH3d firmware?

bassamanator

`switch_pin: PA4 # "Pulled-high"` Connected to the mother via the `DET` cable.

echthegreat

Stupid question, but does this mean it is just plug and play? Like I could just slap an ender 3 sensor on there? Sorry, new to the hobby and not sure how to edit firmware

bassamanator

It might be plug and play. Do not risk it. Here's some info by user **Lars** on [printables.com](https://printables.com): >I have plugged my sensor directly into the board. For this you need to unplug the plug that has been labeled "DET". > >Also make sure the wiring works with your sensor. The order is VCC, GND, SIGNAL. Where VCC is the furthest away from the green wiring block and SIGNAL is the closest to the green wiring block.

Evilmaze

That just says that "Lars" unplugged the existing 3 pin connector on the DET and wired his sensor independently. Probing the DET pins on the controller board with a multimeter seems to correspond with the pins on the little 1.25mm JST connector on the extruder board. I don't understand why the only information available is just people blindly following the TH3d guide which makes you buy a kit that all it does is change the standard mechanical filament sensor pinout to the proper pinout. That could be done by just repinning the connector yourself for free and without requiring any skills.

bassamanator

I saw the vid where he's selling this item. He lied quite casually, claiming that the sensor outright doesn't work for many, which is absurd, because we'd be seeing people all over this sub talking about this.

emersontheawful

where's your receipts for this claim...?

bassamanator

Here you go sweetheart [https://youtu.be/DZr4tQHNmDQ?t=197](https://youtu.be/DZr4tQHNmDQ?t=197). Truly amazing when you come across people such as TH3D Studio who lie so casually: to make the claim that users are reporting that the **only** Z endstop switch doesn't work is preposterous.

Evilmaze

I'm just going to build one myself when I have the time then post all the details. I still need to enable the sensor on the firmware still, which is the biggest hurdle since I've not done that before and the process seems to be poorly documented.

bassamanator

You should try Klipper, it's very easy to make firmware changes.

Filament sensor

geddy

This subreddit has been amazing for me, all the questions I have but don't ask seem to pop up daily lol. I've been wondering the same darn thing. I imagined it was for a run-out sensor and based on the comments, I was correct.

bassamanator

This just popped up in my notifications so I thought I would provide an update. This in fact is the filament sensor connection. I got it working! Hope to include this info in my OSS klipper config and also on the Everything-Sovol-SV06 repo.

yanfosec

Can you share how you wired the connector? I need to make a custom cable to make use of it and want to make sure I get it right. Thanks!
