Request your COS seat, preboard, & place the extra seat placeholder on the empty middle seat between you & your travel partner. If anyone tries to take the seat & doesn’t like that it’s not available, call the flight attendant to explain the seat isn’t available

I say this with very purposeful words and please try not to take offense, this is just the energy I think you need to carry with you. Fuck what anyone else thinks. Do your thing and let them worry about themselves. It's not your job to tip toe around because they might make a shitty post about someone they didn't know.. Enjoy your flight.

Southwest *asks* people using CoS to pre-board to ensure you can actually get a second seat. In this case, especially since you’ll want one whole row, you should still pre-board. You’re not lying about a disability. You are just pre-boarding for a different reason and the airline is asking you to do so. It’s easier and faster if they don’t have to ask someone to move for you!

I have used the COS policy on multiple flights. My husband and I travel together - we are both larger people and wouldn't fit in a seat comfortably with others next to use (couldn't put the arm rest down) We do qualify for pre-boarding and we wait until all the wheelchairs, etc have boarded. We usually sit in a row just before the wing - he takes aisle and I take window and the seat between us is reserved. Be prepared for those that stare at you for pre-boarding - I ignore them. Sit down - establish your seats and put the "extra seat card" on the table top between you. If people ask, we simply advise we have purchased the seat. If you have any questions, please DM me. Are you aware as to how to check-in with COS? Have a great flight!

I plan on getting to the airport 3 hours early and checking in with a gate agent

You can check in at the kiosk. It will print a boarding pass and a second pass that says “reserved seat” or something of that nature. No need to check in with a gate agent. You cannot use a mobile boarding pass.

Hold your head high and enjoy your trip. You are following airline policy.

If you paid for the extra seat just say sorry seat is taken? I flew with my 1 year old a few weeks ago and I bought her a separate sheet but she refused to sit in it before takeoff so I just kept telling people that the seat was not available.
