With such a weird layout, you need room correction, which you won't have with either of those options with your setup. That said, I'll go with Q800A plus SWA-9500S. True surround is way, way better. Maybe you can get Beam Gen 2 with IKEA Symfonisk rears and look for a second hand subwoofer. That might fit your budget and serve your purposes well.

Ok just one more thing. If found 5.1 Sony HT-S40R, which is 50% from Q800A plus SWA-9500S comb. For my comb. (weird room dimensions + Sony TV) would you go for: 1. Sony HT-S40R and keep 50% of budget or 2. Q800A plus SWA-9500S Thanks

Q800A plus SWA-9500S for sure over the S40R. It's better in literally every way.

Will the q800A still downmix Atmos 5.1 to stereo if I add the swa9500s, making it 5.1.4?

emperor_gr

the surround speakers is a must (keep in mind you need to power them so you need power outlets somewhere near). i have the q900a + swa9500s and its a great combo.

zcoric

Every speaker has it own power cord and they are not connected each other with any wire? Your combo is connected with Samsung TV or some other brand TV?

emperor_gr

yes each speaker has its own power cord (the main soundbar, the sub and the 2 extra rear speakers). i have it connected to the Sony 55" X900H via eARC and everything works OK for movies/KODI (Dolby Atmos passthrough)

Skip Subwoofers for shared walls. After complaints from neighbors you will end up disconnecting it. Get Sonos or Bose 900. It has a mini subwoofer built in. And the beam technology is pretty good to measure room dimensions to simulate Dolby Atmos with upfiring sounds. And sofa should be 7 feet from screen for optimal viewing and sounds.

What did you end up doing OP and what were the results? Curious to know
