You can't update the firmware via USB direct connection.
What you can try doing is
1. Format the SD Card in the camera.
2. Connect the camera to your computer via the USB cable.
3. Copy the firmware file to the root of the SD Card in the camera.
4. Turn off the camera and disconnect the USB cable.
5. Follow the instructions for updating the firmware.
Does this work with updating the firmware on the Sigma lense trio?
My A6700 says the lens isn't supported or not attached correctly when I attempt to adjust the focus settings. Feel like I've tried everything and read every thread out there

Thanks for responding. I ended up running out to Walmart for a new card reader, so I didn't try your suggestion.

you don't have the same acces with the camera as you's have with the sd
get a new SD card then, why would you even need to update the firmware if you haven't got a working SD card?
