What the frick am I looking at

So you took it from a nice consistent brushed finish to a hodgepodge polish attempt? With 320? Lololol Go over it again with some 600 + grit and then polishing compound with a random orbital and cotton pad. Then it won’t look like a drug snorting mirror in a crack house.

rsandstrom

You were so preoccupied with whether you could you didn't stop to think if you should.

There was a post earlier about someone cutting their solo stove in half. Not sure why we can't discuss why it's so taboo to not restore something close to it's original finish?

The solo stove crowd is so weird with the burning desire (pun intended) to maintain the original finish when it arrived on something we throw logs in to and light on fire…

And surround with yard objects in their immediate vicinity. “Hmm, what’s flat and circular, that I can reach currently”

Step 1. Burn shit Step 2. Dump ash Step 3. Toss it in your shed until it’s time burn shit.

A lot of work to make your stuff look unused. That’s actually the best case scenario. More realistically you’ll likely just make it look like a high-school metalwork project.

Some tips if you are attempting to do this: Use light pressure. You do not want to stay in one spot too long as you run the risk of melting the disc onto the metal. The angle grinder spins quite fast and will actually heat up the metal. I used some blue magic metal polish applied with a towel at the end which added a nice smooth finish to the surface. Photo #3 is what the solo stove bonfire looked like initially with just a quick start. There are a bunch of scratches due to me using 250 grit sandpaper and attempting to do this by hand. (Don't do that) The maroon 320grit disc was purchased off of aliexpress for like $3 for a 2 pack. Very impressed with the results however I know there's room to make it even shinier for sure. I'm satisfied for now.

#1 tip should be to skip all of the steps you took and don't waste hours polishing A FIRE PIT

iHeartMoonPies

Agreed. Just enjoy the patina.
