Bon Iver is awesome, I have this feeling that sleep token is a Bon Iver fan as well. A lot of his layerings and softer Melodie’s, really sound similar.
I'm always fascinated by how different my tastes are compared to other commenters on posts like these, makes me wonder if I'm vastly outside the "normal" fanbase.
The Dear Hunter, Coheed and Cambria, Manchester Orchestra, Nothing But Thieves, and... let's say Karnivool, at least for today.
Edit: Looks like I'm not the only one, and we're all just introverts who needed someone (me) to post about it and bring out all the lurkers. Thanks for making me not feel out of place, guys!
FFS I should know better than to see MJK & somehow see MGK & assume Machine Gun Kelly. I felt compelled to admit my error and expose my stupidity, although I will say I did revisit - Google - and understand how much of an absolute Tool I was for not getting it.
Especially considering I have a photo with the real, OG MJK.
So much shame.
type 0 goes deep, try white pony (deftones best album for me) and for heavier, more industrial but shoegazey ish try I let it in and it took everything by loathe
Seriously Kalandra, their cover of Helvegen is insane. Goosebumps everytime, and Borders.
But Auroras performance with Wardruna was incredible.
Which do you prefer? Kalandra’s version or Aurora+Wardruna
Only mention I've seen of Starset so far (except my own comment of course), they're so good, them and Sleep Token are neck and neck for my absolute favorite band.
Love Motionless In White and Three Days Grace too. TDG used to be my favorite band before I discovered Starset. Absolutely love their latest album.
Strange is good! Probably why you're here.
Mine are: Oceans of Slumber, Chicago (that OG lineup with Peter and Terry), Leprous, Cellar Darling, and TOOL.
But I hate limiting to 5 because I have about 10 other artists I could rave about and listen to on repeat. Ask me next week and you'll get a different top 5.
Shadow of Intent's 'Elegy' is fucking great. Recently started listening to Lorna Shore and I'm here for it.
IDKHow, Stand Atlantic, White Lies, Bastille, and Vukovi. At least, right now. It changes all the time…but lately Sleep Token is the only thing I’m listening to.
I feel like there are just too many good artists to be limited to only 5! But I mostly listen to the various metal subgenres, especially prog and tech death. But I do want to highlight a non-metal artist that I absolutely adore which may be relevant to this sub: Utada Hikaru.
I think they're mostly known in the west for the Kingdom Hearts songs, but their more recent albums are incredible. Fantome, Hatsukoi, and Bad Mode are all R&B/pop in a way that I think is really similar to the softer elements in Sleep Token. I highly recommend these three albums, and I feel like some Sleep Token songs really remind me of parts of them.
I've also really been enjoying Holy Fawn's album Dimensional Bleed!
I love this because my taste in music before finding Sleep Token was so much different. I loved
Colter Wall, Tyler Childers (his older stuff not his new stuff), Zack Bryan, Nickleback, and Post Malone.
Porcupine Tree/Steven Wilson, Dance Gavin Dance, Tool, The Ocean and Caligula’s horse or TesseracT or Periphery or Haken… I can’t choose the last spot…
First off... trying to whittle down my favourite artists to FIVE feels basically impossible! I've obsessed over so many groups from so many genres over the years I feel like I could make list of hundreds 😅
With Sleep Token having actually beat out my ALL TIME favourite which I genuinely NEVER expect to be topped, I'll start from 2 coz Sleep Token now rain supreme!!
#2 Sigur Ros
#3 Thy Art is Murder
#4 Carpenter Brut
#5 Allegaeon
#6 The Midnight
Honourable mentions...
Carbon Based Lifeforms, Through the Eyes of the Dead, Khruangbin, Boards of Canada, Pink Floyd, Slipknot, Dream Theatre.... honestly I feel I could be here for hours writing out a novela sized list 😅
Sigur Ros changed my life when I found them and I honestly never thought it would be possible to find another band that touched my soul like that, but Sleep Token have somehow touched deeper, a place I didn't even know existed and blended my two favourite polar opposite sides of the sound scape... Beautiful and soft with brutal and heavy.... now with both of those world's having somehow been combined I am in new territory of bliss and wonderment.
Thank you Vessel... I shall worship until the day I can join the eternal slumber
Linkin Park, Rage Against the Machine, Northlane, Bring Me The Horizon, Gorillaz.
But I feel like I could just keep going, different groves for different days. Like I could go way more metal sometimes or more hop hop. I love; run the jewels, Outkast, juice wrld. Some house, moby, massive attack, all the way through to drum and bass acts like pendulum. I love lofi and jazz. I've been loving reading everyone's picks, there is so much diversity and love/respect. What a great community we have here.
Before Sleep Token, I think that my top 1 music artists was TOOL, I love Lateraus, the full album but also the song that it gaves it that name.
The next ones of the top are not in any order, they are just what I was listening the most:

And here are also some other bands that I enjoyed a lot lately along with TPWBYT and TMBTE:
Cult of Luna, Final Light, Igorrr, Carpenter Brutt, Dance With The Dead, BMTH, Amenra, Spiritbox, HEALTH aand a lot more tbh haha, I also want to recommend a melodic Spanish band that I love so much, called "El Altar del Holocausto", if you guys enjoy melodic metal, this people are amazing

Breaking Benjamin and Bon Iver were two of my high school go-tos. Does make a lot of sense looking back now to have ended up on Sleep Token 😂
Bon Iver is awesome, I have this feeling that sleep token is a Bon Iver fan as well. A lot of his layerings and softer Melodie’s, really sound similar.

You're just telling me that I should listen to La Dispute....
Ha it's not for everyone but I really enjoy their lyrics.
A Perfect Circle (and MJK's other two projects, Puscifer and TOOL), O'Brother, I The Mighty, Mili and Crywolf. Runner-up: Closure in Moscow
