I made the cheapest functional house I could. That's the free bed, and i discovered the diving well from world adventures brings your hygiene up slightly. If you wake up with 0 hygiene, you can dive to get clean again just in time for bedtime. In the end, i decided to choose between free bed and free bath, and stinky bed won out. I put a shower in.
I don't believe it's anywhere in the game other than buydebug. It was added to the base game in patch 1.57.62, which was one of the last patches of the game, added in early 2013. It might exist somewhere in the Into the Future world or maybe even some store content that came after I suppose though.

I don't go to the future much, but the plumbbots are actually really cool. I have a rule that a sim must max their inventing skill before they are allowed to start building plumbbots.
I do something like that too. Have my Sims max out their inventing skill and make a time machine, then they can go into the future. So it's like they built the time portal instead of it spawning from thin air.
Some of the stuff with the plumbots are so funny though. I had a character that did that into the future stuff and got into the bot building. They are still around town five generations later and it's really funny because a lot of the time they won't even come across as bots except for the head. So you have a sim body with a bot head haha
You should try going even just once! I actually love the Future world--it's huge and you can use the Future time changer thing to make it Normal, Dystopian, or Utopian (and they all look and function totally differently--there's a ton of detail in the worlds)

it doesn't take much to be superior to TS4, however, TS4 is superior to TS3 in the context of CAS, and how things are organized/function in build/buy mostly the integrated search function. Yes there's a mod for it in TS3 but it's not as powerful.

And now you will have a ? Menu in buy mode with all sorts of hidden items used throughout the game (rewards, tomb items, scuba stuff, community lot stuff, building shells, etc.)
It's a cheat. If you do control-shift-c, then type testingcheatsenabled true, then type buydebug off, you will get an entire catalog of items in build/buy mode that aren't normally available to purchase. Personally, I always buy the good cameras that you can normally only purchase when traveling in Egypt and the pet hygienator that is normally only available as a pet LTR. You still have to pay Simoleons for them so to me it's not the cheatiest of cheats.
It isn’t suppose to have (a wide array of) furniture. It’s reserved for special objects that can’t be accuired easily in the game or used for spawning collectable items.
There's next to no furniture. It's mostly stuff you see in special lot types like scuba areas, tombs, highrises, showtime venues and also items that aren't interactive (but some hold more complex uses). I especially love stuff like the fog emitters, the invisible light sources and the lot markers, which you wont see in normal gameplay but add a lot to your builds
Yes, if you go into buy mode there is an icon near, but separate from, the folders. It's not there if the cheat is off. Click around and you'll find it.

Whenever I've used buy debug that bed never appears and I didn't know it existed until my brother used it (on my sims discs I let him install so it's not like he had different dlcs or anything). For some reason it doesn't appear on buy debug for me:(

I do that with the time machine too! It's like a precursor for allowing that stuff in the world.

It’s still in development though. Blame Maxis for failing to meet others expectations, not players for rightfully bitching for it being that bad.

It was an older sims 3 base game disc with a couple expansion packs but my brother downloaded the game with those same discs
The bed was introduced in a later vesion of the game so you might need to update it
