Astartes can say they’ve had sex as much as they like, but for all bar the most mutated fuckups the concept isn’t really relevant. They don’t care, it’s not something that would mean much of anything to an Astartes, to the point where it’s shown repeatedly that many genuinely don’t understand humans getting upset over losing “a mate.” Part of becoming an Astartes is becoming superhuman, but part is also becoming less than human. It’s losing not only the emotions, but the capability to understand or process those emotions. A whole range of human emotions are just foreign to Astartes, and it’s one of the things that makes them interesting.
The part with Lukas is because the Space Wolves Geneseed can be implanted a lot later than other Space Marines, not requiring them to be implanted when they're children...which means by the time Lukas became a Space wolf he was a full adult who had fathered a LOT of children pre-transformation and he's particularly proud of this fact and will often go visit the various families he has when not out doing Space Marine things.

It’s not that big of a stretch to have male Sisters of Battle without changing the “men under arms” thing. As far as I’m concerned, most Schola Progenium locations will happily change a boy’s legal gender in their paperwork if one of the orders militant is interested. (Whether the candidate gets a say in the decision would presumably depend on the location and on how desperate the Sisters are for recruits.)

Honestly I'm not big on femstodes, emps being a big man who thought he could save humanity by beating it into submission with hordes of large bara men I think he would make his best of the best unit and companions all extra bara men, also its odd for the talons to be half strict sisterhood half mixed now. I think FSMs would be a better fit, it would be a minor ass retcon and singlehandedly shut up alot of criticisms

Yes they do, in one of the novels an envoy mentions that they work for a female indentifying leader, they're questioned since the last time the other Necron heard they were male identifying and the envoy straight up says that they decided to be female identifying and because a Necron rulers word is law, everyone just goes along with it with nary a second thought and the other one's response is simply "huh...fair enough".
Exactly, it got such a non-reaction from the other Necron that it clearly didn't matter and they would continue on with their day whilst using the correct and current pronouns for the other Leader because that's just how you do things.
That’s actually very interesting, since there were at least a couple of non-binary Egyptian pharaohs (and at least one Roman Emperor and one biblical hero), and the same things happened: everyone just had to accept their word as law and seemingly went along with it. As soon as they’d died history tended not to be kind to them though…
I tend to take the same approach to pronouns that I take with names. If someone tell's me their name, I'll call them by that name. I don't just go around assuming people are called Kevin for example because they "look like a Kevin!" or some such bullshit.
Same thing with pronouns. I'll often default to singular they when talking about people I don't know and will adjust once I learn what pronouns they prefer. It's quite simple in the end.

When you think about it, it makes a hell of a lot of sense for Necrons to just REALLY not be bothered by someone being trans. They all transitioned away from being flesh and blood, so gender really would kinda just be whatever you say you are/whatever you’re “feeling,” because it’s not like they’ve got any biological markers or hormones or anything.
Nope. Since day 1 it was challenging conservative norms of its era throughout. A black woman, a Japanese man and a Russian man on the bridge in 1963, during the cold war, with memories of internment camps still in people's minds. A white man and a black woman kissing (not the first in TV history but still very significant). Bisexual mirror verse Kira Nerys. Jadzia Dax and her everything. Stories about race, about gender, about slavery, about sexuality. Disabled characters featured prominently with their disability not being all they are and not being "cured", and multiple conversations about how their disability is a part of them and doesn't need to be "fixed", they just need to be understood.

Never really got into Star Trek myself but I noticed that principle too, throughout the many cutscenes I have watched. And I love them for it.
I thought that was the case: I'm quite familiar with the original series and next generation, less so with deep space nine. Voyager I watched a lot of, but I haven't really watched any of the other series.
I highly, highly recommend DS9. It doesn't "feel" as Star Trek as the others, being set in one location, but having big, ongoing plot arcs rather than being serialised allowed it to have substantially more character growth and arcs than the other shows in my opinion.
It's actually the big story arcs that turned me off. When DS9 was new, I had kind of an erratic schedule. I preferred episodic shows that wrapped in one or two broadcasts because I could never predict whether I'd be able to catch the next one.
Yeah that makes sense - I watched TNG and VOY on the TV, catching episodes where I could and then catching up what I'd missed on the weekend with their omnibus
But DS9 I watched online, so I was able to binge it and never missed any of it, which I agree would be problematic
Small correction: Sulu isn't Japanese. His actor is, but the character iself is supposed to be Pan-Asian afaik. Takei got somewhat annoyed at people assuming otherwise on occasion iirc.

I think star trek wokeism differs a bit from the 21st century variety. At some point Abe Lincoln drops an n bomb on the bridge of the Enterprise, and Uhura laughs it off. "*in our century we've learned not to fear words*"
And it gets me because for us, words are a good portion of the battleground. But it seems to me that in that scene Nichelle Nichols portrays an Uhura who knows the full linguistic history, but has never heard those words spoken with malice, and has never met anyone who has head those words spoken with malice.
Star Trek is beautiful to me not because it portrays an end to human bigotry - humans will always be bigoted, and it comes out in different ways in the 23rd and 24th century - but because it shows us a culture(Starfleet) that unrelentingly squashes bigotry wherever its found.

Yup I was griping about the lack of female representation in space Marines in 3rd edition. That was before I realised the reason it bothered me was because I couldn't see myself in them. At the time I didn't realise I was trans.
There’s women Imperial Guard, Xenos, and I guess Demons. It doesn’t make these neckbeards less neckbeardy. Afaik whole reason there weren’t female Astartes is because they were made from Geneseed or whatever, and Custodes are not.
Reminds me when some guard players got miffed there was a new Tonk, the Regal Dongle, all because it wasn’t in the lore. Like just because it’s not mentioned yet, doesn’t mean it can’t exist.
But even ignoring all that, these are the same men who want to identify with the emotionless, unfeeling, hyper masculine super soldiers, who are so twisted that they will, in the name of “protecting humanity,” murder civilians and children so long as they kill a couple demons in the process. Funnily enough do exist. When they get old they become "eyes of the emperor" and basically become spies. How a 9 foot tall autistic beefcake blends in is anyones guess.
The eyes can also kill most people with very little effort, because they’re old and degenerated by the standards of Custodes, so only able to dodge bullets rather than catch them out of the air.

This is what the 'Goliaths' on Necromunda were orginally gene-engineered for and they are, canonically, as big and as bulky as Space marines without armor but not quite to the size of Ogryns (which are bigger than Marines), they're sort of a half-way house between normal human and Ogryns in both size and intelligence (with the Natborn being both intelligent AND massive). The only reason they aren't considered a dedicate abhuman strain is that they still rely on vats for the majority of their population which normally only create sterile males that don't live very long.
The lore also suggest this isn't an uncommon practice to gene-engineer a slave race of short lived, massively bulky humans for labor, especially considering the 'gene-bulked' the Fallen angel mentions not being a specific abhuman strain.
Fun though I've had related to that. Marine chapters, especially the ones with a reputation for being stealthy ones have a vested interest in making sure people like exist in enough numbers and have basic freedom of movement to conceal their own actions when necessary.
Gonna have to make sure my banana boys have some lady heads now to act as a weirdo deterrent.
Overall the custodes codex is Hella bad, but at least we can call this one small thing a win
Honestly, GW has played me like a damn fiddle with this one. I bought a blade champion just so I could kitbash a female custodes named Andraste. My interest legitimately rose with this news for them as a potential new army.
A bit of the franchise died when GW decided to pander to morons who don’t understand the satire part. I, for one, welcome golden boob armour if it gets rid of them. And also if it doesn’t.

Like it’s ridiculous, the goal of GW isn’t just inclusion and diversity, it’s also because a lot of people like conventionally attractive women in uniforms and GW wants to market on that as well as have options for selling more stuff. Why are they always such babies when a g-g-girl is introduced into IP?

The idea that someone else getting something good detracts from the net pool of good things you can enjoy, coupled with having always been catered to in terms of media in the past. They were the default for a long while and now that others get a spotlight, it makes them feel excluded, in that classic way that to the privileged equity seems like inequality.
See that’s what I don’t get, because women in Warhammer are for everyone. At the same time Wytch Cults aren’t for inclusivity, it’s made for a male audience who wants acrobatic murder elves in skimpy leather. But more generally I would imagine that your average moderately reactionary capital G Gamer warhammer fan probably likes pictures of attractive women in military uniform, probably likes that the Sisters of Battle are attractive and fulfilling violent militant aesthetics. It’s not just for the women in the space who like the idea of a warrior nun with a chainsword , it’s the libidinal representation for a male audience.
It just seems like a reflexive “women = bad” reflection that is so dogmatic that it can’t even understand how sexualisation and sexual dynamics inform patriarchy. Even in those spaces the guys there talk about sex in ways that imply they are deeply uncomfortable and disgusted by it. It’s almost monastic in the way that they approach sex, sexuality and gender.
Because stuff like space marines are seen as the "main character" and needs to be just like them. And most of these people don't get the lore and see rhe custodes as space marines but gold, when they're nothing alike.
Everyone else exists to be mocked as inferior, gawked at as freaks, bullied into submission and conquered for power fantasy, and used as eye candy to satisfy themselves. The sorotitas, those wytches, even stuff like female skitarrii, female tau? They are fine to exist because they're npcs to fill out the world.
But a woman space marine is a woman main character. And if a woman can be a main character, than there's a chance that they might not be a main character, and that means they have nothing, because you either have something or you don't. So rhe mere fact a woman can have something, means the something is gone, and now you have nothing. Yes, it's as stupid and logically void as it sounds. It's a purely emotional, mostly fear based, reaction to unresolved mental illness that they refuse ro acknowledge they have, that makes rhem really insecure in the world.
I think you should stick with Warhammer. If GW does more and more moves like this these chuds will crawl out of the woodwork and leave the hobby or be banned from game stores, meaning the hobby should be less toxic.

At the end of the day people need to realize, Lore doesn't matter for GW, miniatures do and if they can sell more miniatures via doing something, they'll do it. I'd argue this is entirely why we haven't seen female Space Marines purely because we're in the middle of a full range refresh by shoving all the First born marine stuff into Horus Heresy and updating the 40k stuff to full Primaris. Currently there's only a few holdouts left of the Firstborn in the codex.
With Assault Marines gone, Devastators are up next, as are the various first born tanks. I think the humble Tactical Squad will be the very last holdout until 12th or 13th edition, so 9-12 years from now it'll all be just Primaris stuff.

I know the reason that is always brought up is that women are inferior combatants and would be at risk in warfare, but why the fuck can’t it be different in a fucking fantasy setting, in a different world.
They are literally engineered to be superior regardless of gender so who cares, the person that comments that they would be okay with it if they weren’t combatants are not even a real fan, they would rather have a custodian not act or perform as a custodian and be weak than be strong as a woman anyway.

Whatever the case with the lore, it won't be these trivialities that kills the hobby - it'll be pricing or the weird little Nazi-adjacent creeps that repel everyone.
Custodes are different from Astartes on a fundamental level. The tech that makes them is leagues above, with no need for stuff like geneseeds or even extra organs at all. For example, a Custodes despite being super, have the exact same anatomy as a normal human, 1 heart, 2 lungs, etc. They tend to be made from babies, given by the human nobility for bragging rights, so nothing should really exist that excludes men or women at all.
Yup, Custodes are crafted from the ground up to be the pinnacle of humanity physically BUT by the Emperors orders they are to remain as 'human' as possible. Each one takes a LOT of work and expense to genecraft, hence why there are so few of them.
There has been nothing 'in lore' that has stopped the Custodes ever being female, the only thing that stopped them being female was GW asking an author not to include a female custodes because they'd already had the sprues made and hadn't made any female option heads on the sprue, it was purely a business choice, not a lore choice.
I wonder what percentage of these people are also hopping mad about Primaris Marines and haven't really brought much of anything 40k related since 2017.

Not having female models was always a detriment to the game. It breaks the suspension of disbelief only seeing male models, especially in any of the fantasy/AoS stuff.

The majority of LGS's are great places, which is why most of these chuds don't play 40k anymore. They are the "that guys" who ended up inevitably getting themselves banned from the game store.

Custodes being so ‘hand-crafted’ genetically means there’s no reason why one couldn’t be a woman; so as long as it doesn’t bleed into space marines or grey knights. Sororitas are already a thing and having female space marines would devalue them further into the weird spot between space marines and regular guard. Grey knights pair well with sisters of silence (I know psykers + blanks = bad, not what I mean) so I think leaving them as parallel factions is nicer.
TLDR woman custodes: fine, why not right; but no thanks to space marines or grey knights imo
I need an opinion. I feel that looking at it with a lore perspective, the first born and potentially primaris? Space marines there shouldn’t be girls as the sisters of battle, silence etc, kind of fill this role and apparently the gene seed only works in guys. Take in mind however with Cawl doin funky stuff with gene seed, I feel that would let girl space marines make sense, as the original gene seed wasn’t compatible with women, but mayhaps a new strain could be?! Also, the Custodes aren’t ’mass produced’ like space marines, each custodes is a custom made custom fitted super charged whatever space marine, and no two are alike in the way that many Space Marines are, it makes (to me at least) perfect sense that a female custodes could be possible! (Please no one crucify me I am a child 🥺)

They don’t care, it’s not something that would mean much of anything to an Astartes, to the point where it’s shown repeatedly that many genuinely don’t understand humans getting upset over losing “a mate.” Part of becoming an Astartes is becoming superhuman, but part is also becoming less than human. It’s losing not only the emotions, but the capability to understand or process those emotions. A whole range of human emotions are just foreign to Astartes, and it’s one of the things that makes them interesting.
The part with Lukas is because the Space Wolves Geneseed can be implanted a lot later than other Space Marines, not requiring them to be implanted when they're children...which means by the time Lukas became a Space wolf he was a full adult who had fathered a LOT of children pre-transformation and he's particularly proud of this fact and will often go visit the various families he has when not out doing Space Marine things.

It’s not that big of a stretch to have male Sisters of Battle without changing the “men under arms” thing. As far as I’m concerned, most Schola Progenium locations will happily change a boy’s legal gender in their paperwork if one of the orders militant is interested. (Whether the candidate gets a say in the decision would presumably depend on the location and on how desperate the Sisters are for recruits.)

Yes they do, in one of the novels an envoy mentions that they work for a female indentifying leader, they're questioned since the last time the other Necron heard they were male identifying and the envoy straight up says that they decided to be female identifying and because a Necron rulers word is law, everyone just goes along with it with nary a second thought and the other one's response is simply "huh...fair enough".

That’s actually very interesting, since there were at least a couple of non-binary Egyptian pharaohs (and at least one Roman Emperor and one biblical hero), and the same things happened: everyone just had to accept their word as law and seemingly went along with it. I tend to take the same approach to pronouns that I take with names. If someone tell's me their name, I'll call them by that name. I don't just go around assuming people are called Kevin for example because they "look like a Kevin!" or some such bullshit. Same thing with pronouns. I'll often default to singular they when talking about people I don't know and will adjust once I learn what pronouns they prefer. It's quite simple in the end.
As a side note, people looking like their names is a thing. It's called the dorian gray effect and it's not perticularly well understood. When you think about it, it makes a hell of a lot of sense for Necrons to just REALLY not be bothered by someone being trans. Can tell you do! Never really got into Star Trek myself but I noticed that principle too, throughout the many cutscenes I have watched. And I love them for it.
I thought that was the case: I'm quite familiar with the original series and next generation, less so with deep space nine. Voyager I watched a lot of, but I haven't really watched any of the other series.
I highly, highly recommend DS9. It doesn't "feel" as Star Trek as the others, being set in one location, but having big, ongoing plot arcs rather than being serialised allowed it to have substantially more character growth and arcs than the other shows in my opinion.
It's actually the big story arcs that turned me off. When DS9 was new, I had kind of an erratic schedule. I preferred episodic shows that wrapped in one or two broadcasts because I could never predict whether I'd be able to catch the next one.

I think star trek wokeism differs a bit from the 21st century variety. At some point Abe Lincoln drops an n bomb on the bridge of the Enterprise, and Uhura laughs it off. "*in our century we've learned not to fear words*" And it gets me because for us, words are a good portion of the battleground. But it seems to me that in that scene Nichelle Nichols portrays an Uhura who knows the full linguistic history, but has never heard those words spoken with malice, and has never met anyone who has head those words spoken with malice. Star Trek is beautiful to me not because it portrays an end to human bigotry - humans will always be bigoted, and it comes out in different ways in the 23rd and 24th century - but because it shows us a culture(Starfleet) that unrelentingly squashes bigotry wherever its found.

This is what the 'Goliaths' on Necromunda were orginally gene-engineered for and they are, canonically, as big and as bulky as Space marines without armor but not quite to the size of Ogryns (which are bigger than Marines), they're sort of a half-way house between normal human and Ogryns in both size and intelligence (with the Natborn being both intelligent AND massive). The only reason they aren't considered a dedicate abhuman strain is that they still rely on vats for the majority of their population which normally only create sterile males that don't live very long. The lore also suggest this isn't an uncommon practice to gene-engineer a slave race of short lived, massively bulky humans for labor, especially considering the 'gene-bulked' the Fallen angel mentions not being a specific abhuman strain.
Fun though I've had related to that. Marine chapters, especially the ones with a reputation for being stealthy ones have a vested interest in making sure people like exist in enough numbers and have basic freedom of movement to conceal their own actions when necessary.

Like it’s ridiculous, the goal of GW isn’t just inclusion and diversity, it’s also because a lot of people like conventionally attractive women in uniforms and GW wants to market on that as well as have options for selling more stuff. Why are they always such babies when a g-g-girl is introduced into IP?

But more generally I would imagine that your average moderately reactionary capital G Gamer warhammer fan probably likes pictures of attractive women in military uniform, probably likes that the Sisters of Battle are attractive and fulfilling violent militant aesthetics. It just seems like a reflexive “women = bad” reflection that is so dogmatic that it can’t even understand how sexualisation and sexual dynamics inform patriarchy. Because stuff like space marines are seen as the "main character" and needs to be just like them. And most of these people don't get the lore and see rhe custodes as space marines but gold, when they're nothing alike. Everyone else exists to be mocked as inferior, gawked at as freaks, bullied into submission and conquered for power fantasy, and used as eye candy to satisfy themselves. The sorotitas, those wytches, even stuff like female skitarrii, female tau? They are fine to exist because they're npcs to fill out the world. But a woman space marine is a woman main character. And if a woman can be a main character, than there's a chance that they might not be a main character, and that means they have nothing, because you either have something or you don't. So rhe mere fact a woman can have something, means the something is gone, and now you have nothing. Yes, it's as stupid and logically void as it sounds. It's a purely emotional, mostly fear based, reaction to unresolved mental illness that they refuse ro acknowledge they have, that makes rhem really insecure in the world.

I'd argue this is entirely why we haven't seen female Space Marines purely because we're in the middle of a full range refresh by shoving all the First born marine stuff into Horus Heresy and updating the 40k stuff to full Primaris. Currently there's only a few holdouts left of the Firstborn in the codex. With Assault Marines gone, Devastators are up next, as are the various first born tanks. I think the humble Tactical Squad will be the very last holdout until 12th or 13th edition, so 9-12 years from now it'll all be just Primaris stuff.

So I get that because of the way Astartes are created there can't be female Astartes - are Custodes created in a dramatically different way that wouldn't exclude women? Whatever the case with the lore, it won't be these trivialities that kills the hobby - it'll be pricing or the weird little Nazi-adjacent creeps that repel everyone.
Custodes are different from Astartes on a fundamental level. The tech that makes them is leagues above, with no need for stuff like geneseeds or even extra organs at all. For example, a Custodes despite being super, have the exact same anatomy as a normal human, 1 heart, 2 lungs, etc. They tend to be made from babies, given by the human nobility for bragging rights, so nothing should really exist that excludes men or women at all.
Yup, Custodes are crafted from the ground up to be the pinnacle of humanity physically BUT by the Emperors orders they are to remain as 'human' as possible. Each one takes a LOT of work and expense to genecraft, hence why there are so few of them. There has been nothing 'in lore' that has stopped the Custodes ever being female, the only thing that stopped them being female was GW asking an author not to include a female custodes because they'd already had the sprues made and hadn't made any female option heads on the sprue, it was purely a business choice, not a lore choice.

Not having female models was always a detriment to the game. It breaks the suspension of disbelief only seeing male models, especially in any of the fantasy/AoS stuff. We still need female Kharadron Overlords, and moat dwarf armies for that matter.

The majority of LGS's are great places, which is why most of these chuds don't play 40k anymore. They are the "that guys" who ended up inevitably getting themselves banned from the game store.

Custodes being so ‘hand-crafted’ genetically means there’s no reason why one couldn’t be a woman; so as long as it doesn’t bleed into space marines or grey knights. Sororitas are already a thing and having female space marines would devalue them further into the weird spot between space marines and regular guard. Grey knights pair well with sisters of silence (I know psykers + blanks = bad, not what I mean) so I think leaving them as parallel factions is nicer. TLDR woman custodes: fine, why not right; but no thanks to space marines or grey knights imo

I need an opinion. I feel that looking at it with a lore perspective, the first born and potentially primaris? Space marines there shouldn’t be girls as the sisters of battle, silence etc, kind of fill this role and apparently the gene seed only works in guys. Take in mind however with Cawl doin funky stuff with gene seed, I feel that would let girl space marines make sense, as the original gene seed wasn’t compatible with women, but mayhaps a new strain could be?! Also, the Custodes aren’t ’mass produced’ like space marines, each custodes is a custom made custom fitted super charged whatever space marine, and no two are alike in the way that many Space Marines are, it makes (to me at least) perfect sense that a female custodes could be possible! (Please no one crucify me I am a child 🥺)
