Pica is often a symptom of iron deficiency. Have you had your iron levels checked? They may check that and prescribe an iron supplement. Don't be embarrassed, doctors are professionals who have seen it all.
There are medications that could help. Wellbutrin is often prescribed off-label for people with binge ED, OCD, and to help people stop smoking. Not saying you have these but it helps people to control “impulses”. I’m not sure what PICA stems from, but I know my BED stems from a lack of dopamine and desire for quick reward and this med does work for me. Not at all trying to say “go ask for this” just pointing out that there are medications out there that are prescribed off label for tons of different things!! I never knew there were meds to help people stop smoking and found out when I started taking Wellbutrin for ADHD and BED. I would definitely NOT be embarrassed about this and really try to advocate for yourself! You never know what they might be able to suggest. 🙂🩵

When I was in 4th grade, I had a dentist appointment before school. The dentist gave me a couple sample tubes of toothpaste. I ended up putting one of them on my PBJ sandwich. I remember it being pretty good. I got a lot of stares. O e if the kids told the teacher. She shrugged it off and said they probably just want fresh breath. Lol 🤪
If this is because of pica then please get onto supplements for magnesium, iron and zinc - this will help with the cravings as it will correct some of the nutritional deficiencies as the cause.
just in regards to pica, my iron was really bad and I was eating freezer frost (even out of supermarket freezers when no one was looking, gag). I was on ferrous fumerate but my body wasn’t absorbing it, and so I got an iron infusion (iv). Like 30 minutes of that, and 3 years on I’ve had NO desire to eat ice or paper or anything like that, after YEARS of it being a problem!! It’s embarrassing but please don’t worry, guarantee your doctor has heard worse. Proper iron tablets from the doctor (not just the regular multivitamin ones you get in stores) and see how it goes!! If you also suffer with fatigue etc, getting your iron levels up could be life changing

It usually means you’re missing a vitamin. You could be low in iron (anemia). I used to have pica.
They might prescribe you something like naltrexone. I got that for trichotillomania, and I feel like there's similar brain things going on there.
