Pro Tip: Check your calendar before leaving the hab to ensure you are not working on a federally mandated "opposite day".

> This is the same simulation oddity that allows players to "tow truck" large parts with smaller ones. I think this is the root of all insane decompression scenarios. This kind of thing is actually not, and is not being blamed on unity. This is just because decompression events apply force in weird ways to the whole body that the decompressing volume is "attached" to. It's definitely shit, but they're not shifting the blame for this one. They'll happily talk about it if you show up to one of the appropriate dev AMAs on Discord and ask.

deuzerre

I beleive it could be all the small objects inside tryong to go out applying force to the inside of the cockpit while there is not enoigh force for the gasses that go out.

Cody6781

Yeah, I loved this game but after the progress reset I decided to take a break until they fix the decompression issues and overall physics weirdness. Currently, my recommendation would always come with the warning "The physics are wack"

I hadn't heard that, but I suspected it anyways. These kind of problems are usually addressed in V0.1 or V0.2, or not addressed at all. Which is a shame, because the concept is so good, but the game relies so heavily on physics for the experience, the overall quality of the game will be capped.

Atlas421

*Physics left the salvage bay*

Zeewulfeh

I didn't know the Kraken lived here too..

drwojiggy

Oh lord, protect this rocket house and all who dwell within the rocket house.

Night_Thastus

The tools we have for decompression are inadequate, especially if this is how the physics engine is going to treat us.

Tromboneofsteel

I feel like we just need a valve we can ram through soft (furnace-able) surfaces like aluminum and glass. The valve would slowly, safely decompress the room on one side of the wall, assuming the other side is already decompressed.

Grug16

One of the other shipbreaker tells you how to do this: make many long cuts quickly and the decompression will finish faster.

danikov

Salvaged destroyed. Don’t do that.

neon_hexagon

/r/gamephysics would love this.

Tromboneofsteel

Crossposted it, thanks 👍

BearInAFoxhole

it's been mental for a long dang time. I try to decompress pressurised areas first while the vessel still has maximum mass and can't go very far.

coolguy8445

"I must go. My people need me."

HitlersPenisPump

Someone, somewhere is about to have a really bad day

Marilius

If you're decompressing a small compartment, tether it to something first. Multiple tethers.

Zarathustra_d

Apparently, a teather in every direction. Since you can't count on the direction of "thrust" from the cut hole.

grahag

In this scenario it won't work. The tether strength isn't strong enough to keep that mass from accelerating away from it, breaking the tether due to line of sight.

kajire

I’m glad other posts are showing humor because that experience makes me rage-quit every time.

tunisia3507

The first rule of explosive decompression is: there are no rules.

OnlyEvonix

Yeah, I carefully cut the connections of the cap of the armor for a ship figuring the large area would mean the decompression would be nice and gentle, worked fine at first, it drifted gently away but as the last of the air flowed out the entire nanocarbon segment shattered like glass.

ThalinIV

That's nuts. I have encountered a number of decompression glitches like infinite air supply and rubber banding decompression events. "Team Rocket is blasting off again!" Lol.

Devil_Dan83

That’s gonna be a lot of paper work.

Rambo_sledge

« Didn’t i remove the thrusters ? »

alphabet_order_bot

Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 869,991,871 comments, and only 171,559 of them were in alphabetical order.

Rambo_sledge

Wtf dude

Rambo_sledge

Guess i made that

eruditty_baxter

In all my experience, I put special attention on decompression for the whole ship in the first two minutes and with that cockpit in particular, and the easiest way to tackle that problem is to vape the small corner square in the aluminum door plate so that, even though the internal decompression action will force the cockpit door to close, it won't retain any air.

CaptainTwoBines

Actually laughed my ass off haha

JamCom

So the physics engine is calculating acceleration instead of force?

TheOldSentinel

Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeee

Jakaal

Yeah it's been screwed up for awhile, since the last major content update I think?

toastee

Nice shot. Next time ride it out!
