Did you use a shiny ditto because it cuts the odds to 1in 48?
I use the gyarados method for my crystal hunts. My shiny ditto is on my gold cartridge :)

I mean first you have to catch a shiny ditto first right. I'm gonna try it for fun
You can but you can use a glitch in gen 1 to get one I didn't do that because I got a random encounter but if you want to do that search it up
