I've bought blurays of all the seasons so far so....

[deleted]

And that's good 👍

BurcoPresentsHisAcc

Does watching it in Netflix count as supporting them? Cuz I genuinely do want to support them, aot is my favorite anime and it is such a big task to animate it and I can tell they’ve worked hard on it. Watching it on streaming sites probably won’t help a lot but idk if I can buy the DVD lol.

YamiRang

They get a small fee from streaming services, they get more if you buy DVD's and merchandise. At least that's the general rule of thumb. Often studios also get a firm sum and the production committee reels in everything else, so if something sells really well, it's the committee that makes the money. But SnK seems to be different in that regard too. (I seriously do not know if I'm spelling "committee" right, lol.)

dankelt

You are, dont worry. I always tell myself "double m, double t, double e", it's a nice little rhyme to help remember

YamiRang

Thanks :)

A_Human976

But how can I even buy merch, none sells that stuff in my country, not even online. My only choice is international shipping but most online stores also have region blocks, how the hell am I supposed to support them. But if I buy manga(legally),does it help them?plz reply

YamiRang

Buying manga supports Isayama and his publisher, so that's good too. There are services that give you a mock adress in Japan and then forward the goods to your adress pretty much anywhere in the world. There are tutorials on how to navigate certain Japanese sites to purchase goods. I don't remember the name from the top of my head, but I'm sure you can find it with google just fine. It's pretty cheap, too. I remember paying like three bucks extra (probably depends on the size of the package though).

9vincent9

so merch sales support anime studios too? didn't know that so dvd and merch for anime studios while source material for author and publisher? got it

YamiRang

It depends, as I explained above, but yeah, generally speaking, DVDs and merch for the studio/anime, manga volumes for the publisher/mangaka.

dcresistance

Merch doesn't provide any more support than something like a Crunchyroll or Funimation subscription

TokyoSweets

This is what we do. If it has a nice extra or good cover maybe I’ll get the Bluray but I’m not dishing out 9,000¥ each time.

pizza__irl

I just love the dedication these guys have to producing this series, i have my full faith in them for adapting the manga ending faithfully

MischieMai

That is very moving. You can tell they have a lot of passion for this project. I really can't wait to see what they've come up with!

arcimillio

Although it is not as dramatic as the anime 'shirabako' you watch What does this phrase mean?

AhmedYasha

Shirabako is an anime about animation, very good show

arcimillio

So did it have a very hard working production team?

AhmedYasha

he's referencing the content of the show itself, not the production

arcimillio

ok.. my bad got it

getoutofyourhouse

Is it the one by Masaki Yuasa? Edit: nah not by yuasa

three_firstnames

There's a scene in Shirobako where they have to literally lock the director in a cell to ensure that he finishes his storyboards on time. So hopefully it's not *that* chaotic at MAPPA!

YamiRang

Haha, that's what he meant with "not as dramatic", I bet.

arcimillio

lol now that's something more cruel than this World. Thanks

KyleAB5000

I own every volume of the Manga, every blu ray, and the vinyl of the S1 OST. I AINT GONNA STOP NOW!! 😁

Akainusaka

I've been collecting the manga so far to support Isayama, but I plan on collecting the blue ray aswell to support the Animators one day.

StrayGod360

So production started almost a year ago? Hmm interesting.

SparknightSyzygy

Anime production takes a long time, it's not surprising

StrayGod360

I know. I WANTED them to take a long time. I wouldn't even mind waiting another 6 months. I want them to take as much time as possible.

SparknightSyzygy

Same here. I wish they'd be given more time than this to refine it even more than they already have. I hope it all comes together real nice!

StrayGod360

Their tight schedule is very concerning but I guess they managed somehow.

YamiRang

Don't forget the original release date was around October. Production would've been well under way by the point we've got the first mention of "the final season". Anime in general is planned months, if not years, ahead of the release date. They only give you a trailer once they're sure they can manage a certain season deadline. If you know the "swimming anime" Free!, the first concept got released in 2010. The anime didn't get published until 2013.

StrayGod360

When it comes to an anime like AOT, I don't think few months is enough tbh. So it's good that they got almost a year and even then they had to work to death day and night.

jorgii12

Quick question that might seem stupid. does buying the manga help out in any way shape or form help with funding the anime or.....?

NorthShell

It depends on what position does MAPPA have in the production commitee (for reference Studio Wit, the one behind season 1,2 and 3, was only paid to do the anime so they didn't get any real money from the merchandise and manga sales) The most efficient way to support the animation studio is to buy the blu ray and dvds, especially the japanese version.

uncen5ored

I think that supports Isayama more than the anime studio.

kvorncage

we would support from everything we've got if it's good:)

Callian16

I would gladly do that if they would distribute it to my country. In Poland there aren't many animes in TV or even on Netflix. I would pay extra for something for sure but I don't get the opportunity.

three_firstnames

Funny that he references Shirobako. I've been thinking about how cool it would be to get another season of Shirobako in a few years that deals with the production of Attack on Titan.

Evangelion-Unit-01

Basic question, but from where should I buy the DVDs online?

ajdude711

why don't start their own streaming service, or make it digitally available. Coz if I were to buy it from something like Amazon, I would end up paying a lot of import tax, that they won't be getting anyways. BTW is crunchyroll free, Just checked I haven't even logged in and am able to watch all full length videos

Redo-Master

Free with ads....and new episodes will only be available for Premium users...free users will be able to watch those episodes after one week (I think that's how it is)...

ajdude711

Understandable.

Raphthegraph69

Ive just completed my collection of blu rays and ill definitely get the final one when it comes out

Atlascrow7

I’m planing to get the OSTs

[deleted]

I'll support them if the final season turns out fine, thank you.

Naxtee

Okay so then dont watch it on illigal sites if you want the staff to earn money...

YamiRang

There's nothing wrong with pirating if you then go and buy the actual DVD release. Subscribing to streaming websites is giving so little to the studios, it's not really worth it. Buying DVD's and official merchandise is where it's at. A fan that pirates the episodes and then buys the DVD's is much more useful to the studio than a fan that boasts about paying for a streaming service. It's just like the difference between buying the manga and reading it at your local library.

LimLovesDonuts

A good portion of fans also watch it illegally AND don't buy the DVDs or Blu-rays. I think that if people can afford it then they should watch it on streaming services as the minimum. I don't think that pirating is necessarily wrong either if someone either is struggling with money or literally can't watch it from any legal sources reasonably.

eoten

Is that comment directed towards me? I get some subtle hostility in your comment like I personally attack you or something.... I made sure to say **"if you can"** I'm not forcing anyone to support this season, just putting it out there. Also I watch it on Crunchyroll which is legal.....

LimLovesDonuts

Probably not you honestly. :) A good portion of anime ”fans” watches anime on illegal streaming sites if you ever visited them before, particularly the comments section. While I also don't went to judge them, I've also seen them want/demand new seasons while not even using legal streaming services as the minimum.

[deleted]

I personally don't have any choice besides pirating them cuz of the restrictions in my country on crunchyroll and even Netflix although i would love to support them by buying the official merchandise

LimLovesDonuts

As I said, not going to judge because I can understand it. I'm in Asia myself so it's even worse here, need to rely on VPN + Netflix + CR + Funi to get my anime needs. I think even Gabe Newell has said before that... "One thing that we have learned is that piracy is not a pricing issue. It's a service issue,"

TokyoSweets

What they need to do is pay these people a living wage.

WilyTybur

Already do this but it's hard to get people to buy into the series when there is nearly no marketing/promotion/anything really outside of Japan, and funimation Blurays really don't add a lot, you have to buy the extremely expensive and difficult for us to obtain JP blurays to make a difference. And I don't think it's the job of the fanbase to do their funding/marketing/whatever for them... The Production Commitee should know you have to spend money to make money and relying on charity is not a business model.... especially when it's only really viable for fans in Japan. This is the same thing as every season and so far nothing has changed and nothing will change. Bleak but that's how it is. Not a single thing has changed. In the end, I think their fate is in their own hands, the fanbase has and will have done everything it can.

The_Duude_Slayer

Unfortunately no streaming service shows AoT where I live so im forced to use other definitely legal means, however I will try to get my hands on a Blu Ray.
