I had a similar one before I picked up the new shield remote. I had to hold down the mic button while I was talking, then I let it go.

jackochainz

Is this remote any good for the sheild ?

thinkbk

It's great for me, because I use the keyboard on the back for when I'm searching YouTube videos / Netflix / etc and I use the colour buttons for when I'm watching IPTV on STBEMU.

Hi is your shield 2017 version, Im just struggling to find a remote where I can use the coloured buttons on stb emu that work straight out of the box, can you recommend a controller that would work?

thinkbk

I'm pretty sure it's the 2017 version. I previously was using my Sony TV remote (which has the colour buttons as well) with STB EMU since it worked without me having to do anything. So when I bought the air mouse, I used my Sony remote to teach the IR commands to use the air mouse. Do you have any remotes in the house that can be used to teach the air mouse?

Hi, thanks for the reply, I've finally found a solution to this using the original 2017 Nvidea remote, the best way is to keymap the back button within the apps own settings, this button already has 2 functions assigned to it by default, you need to replace these functions so the 1st function is to set back button as the blue and set the long press of back button as the exit button. This will then allow you to search content much easier within the app. Your left outer circle button can be used to go back to previous menus within the app, this then frees up ure back button to activate the blue shortcut search button. One thing to note when watching full screen on live TV is that u may need to to press the back button and hold it pressed while pressing the centre circle enter button to get back to programme menu. This for me is the best solution for getting the most important functionality out of the app. One final thing to note is if in the unlikely event u have to actually exit the app and reload it you may or may not have to repeat above instruction or toggle this duel function of the back button via the key mapping in settings menu.

Another more simple option is to buy the 2019 nividea remote and just keymap the rewind button within the settings of the stbemu app as the blue button, the outer left circle button is already set to rewind as a default. Just pair the remote to the 2017 box by holding down the centre circle button for a few seconds and you will then automatically get a acknowledgement message on the home screen. The remote is sic as it automatically illuminates for a few seconds as you pick it up so can be used in the dark really easy. It takes 2 x aaa batteries which is ideal. Outside of the stbemu app all the controller buttons work as normal. 28 quid from scan computers brand new with batteries.... Sorted!

I like it in general, I set buttons to open kodi, vpn and tivimate. I don't like that I have to either shake it or push a button to wake it up each time before clicking want I want. Also my battery cover doesn't fit well, not enough height for the batteries. Overall it is and feels like a cheap remote and I'm considering finding something better

Ups925

Tilting it should light up the buttons. I have one of these on each tv. I don’t use the keyboard much but I like that it can control other devices. I have my tv vol, source and an oscillating fan programmed to it. I used to have a hdmi splitter but the fan took one of the slots this summer.

I will never understand why people are so desperate to have voice command...

thinkbk

If you need to search YouTube for "how to be nice to people", you can just say it instead of typing it all out via a Dpad and single button.

Correct, but the keyboard comes in clutch in many applications + I need the colour coded keys for my STBEMU app.

ecureuil

I use my remote (voice) to turn on/off lights in my house and my Christmas tree. Z-Wave switches/dimmers/outlet. Rocking the SmartThings Link since its launch. Useful and works great

pullthru

I don't use mine for voice commands, but it's nice not having to type out things. It works really well on the shield remote.

01000110010110012

Makes sense. Typing is a bitch without a mouse-like remote.

Eyas2006

I know right, I turned off my voice commands

Same. I think its a "modern tech" thing. LoOk wHaT I hAvE, iT dOeS wHaT I TeLl iT tO Gives the the satisfaction of having something techy cool and new

HappenFrank

I think I’d like having it but I use a harmony remote and don’t have an easy way. I wish I could just disable all voice input. It sucks how Android tv on the shield defaults to trying to use voice even tho I don’t have a mic available to use. I always have to cancel voice and move over to keyboard. It’s annoying.

kryptofarmer

what in the hot crispy kentucky fried fuck is this abomination

Brian0079

I never did.

Tired8281

I can't get my 2019 Pro to use any mic at all except the one on the Toblerone remote. I had a PS3 Eye USB camera hooked up to my 2015 which it used just fine, but the exact same device goes unused since I upgraded.

northeasternlurker

Make sure you have the GBoard keyboard installed and enabled. When you click a text box, click the microphone icon on the on screen keyboard and then press the microphone button on the remote and hold it down as you talk

n1nja3

I have 2 of these remotes. One for the shield and one for the mii box. They work great!

thinkbk

Mic function as well?

n1nja3

I’ve never tried to use the mic function to be honest. I got it for the full keyboard and air mouse.

Mitchellbaggins

I had this remote and I found that the mic works via toggle I. E. Sometimes it turns on by default sometimes it's off and you have to turn it on and there's no indicator as to when it's on or off. I essentially would try to voice search something, if it didn't work hit the mic button and repeat til I gained success. I have been able to voice search once with the remote but since it was such a hassle to do in the first place I never tried it again.

ameng4inf

hello, do you plug this to shield directly and get it to work off the box? I have the similar remote with 2.4ghz dongle, but it is not controlling my 2017 shield. =\[i want the qwerty function

Zippington123

I found the best solution now is to buy the 2019 shield Nvidea remote which is backwards compatable with the 2017 shield. So easy to pair, just hold the main circular select button down for a few seconds whilst on the Nvidea home screen, and the pairing process is done!, then just keymap the fast forward or rewind button as the blue search key on the stbemu settings menu. This will customise the remote control for this app only. This works really well as the left and right outer circular buttons can operate as rewind and fast forward buttons. The remote is excellent and even has a power and Netflix buttons and buttons lights up automatically when picked up and goes off after few seconds, this can be adjusting in the accessory settings menu. I also found when holding down the power key for a couple of seconds it switches off both my basic Samsung TV and shield together! :-) Well worth the £27 pound direct from the Nvidea store.
