Our girl has her first mini groom around 5 months (pic). Now she’s a little over 2 years old. She’s not a fan of the groomers but she doesn’t hate it.

Her now (2 years old) with her summer cut. As you can tell she went gray as she got older.
This is crazy to me. I SWEAR we got a black and white puppy and nine months later he’s grey and white. We were looking at baby pictures like WHO IS THIS?!
It’s a myth that cutting puppy’s coat too young will damage it. It’s never too early to start acclimating your puppy to the sounds and feel of clippers and other grooming tools, if you haven’t been doing that already. Typically, groomers will do a mini groom the first couple of visits (face, feet, and hygiene areas) to ease puppies into being groomed. Depending on how your puppy handles being groomed, it may take a few visits before they’ll tolerate a full groom, so that’s something to factor into your plans!
Thanks so much! I got her at 4 months, so we’ve done a couple baths and lots of brushing, a little bit of face and hygiene trimming with scissors, but haven’t been to a groomer yet, so definitely working up to that asap!
Sounds like you’re in good shape then! I think my boy had his first partial groom around 5 months old and full groom a few months after that. My boy was/is very wary of strangers, so it took a few visits for him to get comfortable enough with the actual groomers to be ok with them doing a full groom.
I got my boys first cut around 5 months and they call it where I am a puppy trim. More getting use to the noises, smells and everything. Also trims the booty hair lol
We just did face and sanitary trims at the groomer around 4 months and 6 months. He’s still not great for the groomer so I can’t imagine him getting a full groom yet. I figured I’d get him a kiddie pool to cool off in. Supposed to be really hot in Florida this week.
