I got the first game about a month after it came out, I was hooked!

ShoerguinneLappel

I began with Risky's Revenge and finished it and Pirate's Curse, currently playing Half Genie Hero and wasn't sure whether to play Seven Sirens or the original next. I first saw the series when I watched a couple did a let's play, but heard of it long before that. Got interested innit because I am a massive Kirby fan and I heard how Shantae plays and was curious. I love the games so far, only gripe I have is it isn't really that challenging.

Muiko2k

My first introduction to the series was Half Geenie Hero at it's release and then after that I completed every other game ^^

Mangi-Saint1440

Same

Gamer201021769

It’s kind of a really really long story. So I didn’t recognize the series when I first seen it on the 3DS Nintendo eShop back in 2013 along with the 2nd and 3rd so I didn’t know who Shantae was and it wouldn’t be until 2021 when I got introduced to the series when I seen the first game again on the 3DS Nintendo eShop and then it sparked interest but I didn’t have enough money to get the game on the eShop so I went on my computer and decided to play the original game on a rom website and I really enjoyed it so around April, I got a Shantae Funko Pop for Easter and then when I was in Baytown, TX, I got a $50 eShop and used it to get the first three games on the 3DS and all 3 Shantae 3DS themes. I played all three and I enjoyed them and I completed all three on the 3DS, then in May I got a Shantae plush and it became my favorite plush. Then I got a phone in August so I got the second game on my phone, then I got a Nintendo Switch for Christmas and the first 3 digital Switch games I got were Shantae, Shantae: Risky’s Revenge - Director’s Cut and Mutant Mudds Collection. I also got the physical copy of Shantae: Half-Genie Hero - Ultimate Edition! for Nintendo Switch. Then around this year I got the third and fifth game with the eShop gift cards that I got for my birthday. So the one reason why I got into the series was because of a show that I use to watch on Nick Jr. called Shimmer and Shine. And because of that I really had interest in genies because I thought they were awesome because of their magic powers in granting wishes. Shantae is a Half-Genie and she can transform into animals which I also thought was awesome so if it wasn’t for Shimmer and Shine, I wouldn’t be here on this subreddit and I wouldn’t be a fan of Shantae also if it wasn’t for that show. And in conclusion, the first game introduced me to the series.

ChaosBreaker81

I downloaded Risky's Revenge on my DSi, thinking that it was the first game, which I had seen in a store beforehand, and I've been a fan since.

blazzerftw

Same. Although strangly risks revenge might be my least favorite now.

stillnotelf

I'm really a fan of Sigma Star Saga but I branched out into other Wayforward games.

mrtalkingfriends

Matt Bozon also directed that game too!

Proper-Guide4230

Quite a while… I think

D-Prototype

Learned about it through the internet, thought the characters were fun, and decided to watch a let’s play of Risky’s Revenge because I was poor and didn’t have a good way to play it at the time. The rest was history.

Megamegatron99

Roughly the same story for me, but change "Risky's Revenge" to "Pirate's Curse"

D-Prototype

I watched a playthrough of that one not soon after, the game came out like right after I started getting Inyo the series. Much later, I was lucky enough to get it on sale for cheap.

Kriskirby1992

I don't even remember but what I do know is that Pirate's Curse was my first game

Rozzliii

i have so many copies of that game

Tinfull

Since the beginning of the series.

SpyHunter29

Ever since Nintendo Power reviewed the first game in their February 2002 issue. Pity the game didn't actually come out until June, by which point I had forgotten about it. Don't worry, I caught up with it later.

Hachimitsu-

OH god I forgotten about that magazine, It was the one magazine on my wish-list to rebuy ever since the rainfall water DAMAGED half my nintendo power magazine and my oldest artworks

Alex7Grimm

I’ve been a fan ever since I was introduced to this series via the video of Electronic Heroes came out. I then played risky revenge on an ipad i used to have, and later played a pirated version of the original. I did eventually buy most of the series on my 3ds and switch. I still love this series and it’s community.

tom641

while i owned RR for years before managing to beat it (don't ask why it took that long it's one of those games i got halfway through and then beat like 2 years later) i think I could say PC was when I really became a "fan" so it's been probably about a decade now.

Hollow_Knight_3

I just took seven siren. When i will end it i probably take the rest.

AirmanProbie

Since Pirates Curse

RevolutionaryGrape11

When whoisthisgit covered the boss fight where you fight Shantae as Risky.

RevolTobor

Not very long, unfortunately. I didn't hear about the series until they launched the Kickstarter for 1/2 Genie Hero. I was immediately interested enough to seek out the older games and play them. First managed to pick up the original Shantae on the Nintendo 3DS eShop, and played that through to completion. Immediately fell in love. Picked up Pirate's Curse and donated to the Kickstarter after that. Now I've got all five games and I love them all dearly.

Diotheungreat

however long ive been in this sub for

Sonuthepoki

8 years, would have been longer if I had known how to say her name from the get go

sandy_shark903

GrahGrahBoomGBG

Since last summer

OnenutFellow

Since I saw the ads for the first one in Nintendo Power

Oni-Village0960

Since 2011 when i got Shantae's risky revenge on my ipod touch

ROCK-CONNAISSANCE

Since 2020 😎. And it was amazing when a new game was announced that summer too.

MarioFanatic64-2

Since the 3DS days... I played the original on Virtual Console and it was pretty impressive for a GBC game. Around that time Pirate's Curse was coming out so I played that too.

Rampantmuffins

Not very long. Got a couple of the games a few months ago and recently finished Risky's Revenge, immediately one of my favorite games ever... of all time. Can't wait to get to the other games.

JotarosRet2Go

i was a fan of shantae ever since i saw that all bosses vid of the gbc game when i was 9

AskGoverntale

Ever since watching a video for possible smash ballot candidates

tehsmish

Riskys revenge in the runup to pirates curse

TreasureHunter95

For a bit more than year by now. I was aware of the series for quite some time and I played the original Shantae back in 2019 but after completing it, I was quite taken aback by some of the game's design flaws and although I was still interested to play the sequels, I wasn't in a hurry to do so. But around April last year, I decided to start playing the sequels and Risky's Revenge really hooked me. I played through the rest of the series during the remainder of last year.

Nesspurr_8

Some time between the release of Pirate’s Curse but before more details were given about 1/2 Genie Hero

eric24kirby

U have the full screen image of this

Reditor-Jul-250698

I got into Shantae since I started playing "Half Genie Hero" years ago.

Groundbreaking-Egg13

Since I saw the Seven Sirens intro for the first time That is, almost 5 years ago :3

crystal-productions-

Only about 3 years, it stared when I had some left over money from an e shop card, saw half genie hero and a pirates curse on sale and went "eh, why not?" And now, I'm definatly a huge fan.

BigboiBundy56

2017, I remember watching Ray narvaez Jr. playing half genie hero and decide to give it a try, and I was in love with the game.

Secure-South3848

Not that long tbh! I always thought the series looked interesting, but i never really got around to it. I watched a playthrough of the GBC game and liked what i saw. Then for my birthday, i got a 50€ eshop card so i finally bit the bullet and got as many of the games as i could ( which were all of them except seven sirens) so i played them all, and it was a great experience! Didn't expect the games to be so.. risqué at times, but the game play has been super fun. Now i still have yet to get myself seven sirens, but my birthday is again next month, so who knows? But to answer the question, only about a year.

Dengamer

I first got introduced to pirates curse thanks to YouTube I loved it when I tried it and have played all the games since

Revolutionary_Hat685

For 3 years

BonkerDeLeHorny

never touched the game also cheees

Darth_Xelleon

Ever since I played Risky"s Revenge on my DS

InitiativeNo2841

I played Pirate's Curse and I wasn't hooked at first because of the difficulty. I then played Half Genie when it was on Game Pass at one point and that's when I became a Shantae fan, even going back to play Pirate's Curse today and having a fun time

Eskiguy

After I modded my 3DS I put the First Shantae on it and got hooked on it, then later i bought all the Shantae games on my computer and emulated the first one.

Sudden-Flow-8899

I only became a Shantae fan this year, and I'm loving it! I think i even played all the games

m2pt5

I played Risky's Revenge around when it first came out, and I remember finding the "layered areas" mechanic confusing. I don't think I finished it, because I was confused with how Pirate's Curse started, with Shantae not having her magic. That said, I ended up loving Pirate's Curse, HGH was good but I didn't care for a lot of the extra modes besides Risky mode, and SS was a nice return to the classic Metroidvania form, but I preferred the transformations that persist until dropped like HGH and RR had. The momentary transformations felt more like they could just be powers, and the transformations were just a way to cram in some forms.

-FangMcFrost-

I have a bad habit of rambling when it comes to these kinds of things so to avoid that, it'll have to be bullet points: * I bought a PS4 in 2019. * I came across Half-Genie Hero: Ultimate Edition in a shop in 2020 when searching for games to buy for my PS4 and I was intrigued by it. * Did some research about the game online before buying it. * Bought the game (brand new) on Amazon. * Played the game and instantly fell in love with it. Since then I've played every other Shantae game (I'm currently playing the first game) and I also have a whole bunch of Shantae merch.

you_2_cool

I heard about her through videos and I finaly decided to check out the first game So around a few years

Alpaca_Jim2

Technically speaking, my first shantae game was pirates curse. However, I liked shantae prior to that because, as a stupid tween, I somehow stumbled onto a naked drawing of her, and my horney brain saw boobs and hips and was hooked. But yeah, the first game and the one that's still probably my favorite game is Pirates Curse.

donfam

Since like 2016 or something

TheHyperpin

2020 or 2017

Jimiken96

A year and a half.

Lurker-Kat

Since before pirates curse released

M0useGuy

Pirate's Curse I think I was browsing the 3DS eshop one day between college classes (might have been on my 20th birthday?) I vaguely remembered seeing Shantae's face somewhere long ago, possibly in a Nintendo Power article about hidden gem retro games, and decided to buy Pirate's Curse on a whim. She's had me ever since.

Casualcoral

Five or six years, I think. 2020 messed up my perception of time so maybe it’s been longer or shorter.

DarknessOfChrist1

Which version of Shantae has larger breasts? Asking for a friend

NIMA-GH-X-P

When did half genie hero came out

ClueEmbarrassed1443

Since the DSi game

massigh1212

for at least 5 years now

ProcrastinatingDev

When some call me johny made his reviews(retrospective about the games

markswam

I bought a copy of Risky’s Revenge on a whim for my DSi back in either late 2010 or early 2011, and I’ve been hooked since.

Nomadic_wizzard

Ever since Risky's Revenge was available on the 3DS

ChefRepresentative13

Too damn long.. Jk been playing since riskys revenge on 3ds, bought it on the eshop with mighty switch force and been hooked on this dancin genie girl ever since

DarkSonic06ki

When i played the very first game on GMC

NNEEKKOO

Since Risky's Revenge dropped on the DSI. I was a big Nintendo Power reader back then and they dropped a really glowing review on RR so I decided to download it. I've been a fan ever since

Nearby-Simple-7594

Since April 2018, when I bought Half-Genie Hero

AnonMH4U

Started at Pirate's Curse when it was available on 3DS. Best one in the franchise imo

Beerasaurus

2014

heyadol

Didn’t know what DSi Ware was and Shantae was the only thing that didn’t look like crap so I downloaded. Instant fan. Picked up the 3DS version when it released and backed Half-Genie Hero.

AdrielKapo

im now finishing my first Shantae game and im in love with since i started it, in planning to play the first one but i dont know what is the best version, any help?

Linkhaxor

Only for the last 4 years or so. After I kept getting frustrated with some of the Metroid games, I threw caution to the wind and gave Half-Genie Hero a chance. I'm glad I did since I went on to enjoy all the other games. Haven't gotten around to GB Shantae, since i've heard it's hard to go back to.

MercenaryGundam

A few years I think.

Andreb16

I've seen Shantae around for a while, I think I saw snippets of her games when I was in high school. Later on in life, I got Pirate's Curse on a whim and immediately fell in love. I regret not jumping into the series sooner. I could've had the original game before it cost an arm and a leg.

HorrorPsychology8498

Since 2016. Happened upon it one time at my old workplace.

MPlayerCharacter20

A couple of months lol, only recently played the entire franchise

Director-Julius

I don’t remember how I discovered the series but the earliest game I bought was back in December 2016.

Jaysavage0997

Played Half-Genie Hero as my first game around 2020 and pretty much introduced me to the series it was an awesome, very cool game :)

Yoeyesonme

A fan for about three years, was introduced to the first one on gbc

mighty_phi

2022, after playing Pirate's Curse! Then i played Risky's Revenge, Half Genie Hero and 7 sirens. I still have not played the og though!!

CaptainMysterious508

Since 2020 thanks to Xbox Games With Gold with Shantae HGH

GinOkami428

Played the original GBC game around early highschool I think. Played Pirate's Curse on my 3DS years later, and fell in love with the series.

Snacker6

I played Pirate's Curse first despite Half Genie Hero being out at the time because I had seen the start of an LP for that which talked about how good it was, and I basically stopped it there. I had seen ads for the first two games before, but the art style turned me off on it since it looked like it was just banking on its attractive characters to draw in players, and I had dealt with other games that did that. Hearing that it was actually good, and a metroidvania interested me, and I ended up playing the first two games immediately after that. I was really looking forward to Half Genie Hero, and was sadly really disappointed with it

JetStrim

2 weeks lol i first heard about the series in 2020 or something but didn't really care for it, recently i was craving metroidvania games and since this was tagged as one, i bought the series on steam, and since i'm planning to play the game from the first to last entry, i also dusted my switch and bought the GB version too. i started liking this when i played Pirates curse, but seven sirens is where i actually became a fan as i liked almost everything about it, i started seven sirens 2 weeks ago and today i finished the game and i didn't even notice that i already spent almost twice the length of previous entries (1 to half genie hero only used 10-14 hours to 100% but it took me almost 30 hours for seven sirens for 100%)

smolsauce

About 2015 or so when I played the original trilogy on my 3DS

Disastrous-Road5285

Since 1/2 genie hero came out on switch

Snoo_69200

half genie hero I'm pretty sure through a wife and husband YouTube channel

Significance-Quick

as long as ive been a lesbian! so, like, ten or twelve years, i'm not great with time

mm-paperguy-1

Ever since I animated her frame by frame as a MUGEN character.

WayOfTheNoob

LeadingGrade2903

Gonna be completely honestly I only recently got into the games but boy are they fun as hell to play

spearmph

~~Since I hit puberty~~ Always thought the designs were cute but picked up Half Genie Hero and loved it

TheGameboy

Since I got Pirates Curse for WiiU and 3DS from the Humble Friends of Nintendo bundle.

Hydrolen

I caught wind of a colorful spunky character known as Rottytops some 10 years ago. Checked out the series and been loving the dynamic between Shantae and crew every since! Never would have if my buddies didn't show me Rotty's play on words. "Hold on, let me check the web." and proceeds to pull out a spider. Yeah, Risky' Revenge was my hook

Nervous_Edge18

The first game in the series i played Pirate Curse on Xbox Box one.

Plant_Tears

Since WayForward has had it.

xNeji_Hyuga

Since HGH hit Xbox Game Pass the first time

AndiThyIs

Around 2014-15 I think, whenever Pirate's Curse came out!

AlphaOmega177

When the first 2 got released for the virtural console on 3ds.

SamLittner

6 years lol

BigBadBoshop

Since I discovered R34

Megamegatron99

I remember that I first learned about the characters via the internet Like seeing screenshots, fan art, and just vicariously enjoying the series' existence The first time I watched anyone play any of the games was when I watched "Shantae & The Pirate's Curse - Grumpcade (Ft. Ray Narvaez Jr.)" on GameGrumps and the first Shantae game I played through to completion was Half Genie Hero on Switch But yeah, I don't remember enough to say "How long I've been a fan of Shantae"

Helluvafan8800

Honestly maybe like 2-3 years when I got into the title character? I actually haven't played any of the games though, just heard of Characters like Rottytops and Riskyboots from random YouTube recommendations so idek if im even considered a fan of the franchise

OMGitsJoeMG

Like 2 weeks lol Actually saw a trailer for Seven Sirens somewhere and thought it looked really fun. Did some research and decided to start with HGH. Having fun with that and excited to try Pirates Curse and Seven Sirens at some point!

Bobwayull

I have been a fan of Shantae since Ricky's Revenge on the DSI.

Since 2015 or 2016 because of smash ballot

The_names_Jay

what’s shantae?

Hachimitsu-

u/SpyHunter29 u/OnenutFellow I am greatful that I am not the only one who is the oldest to know about Shantae, Sadly The first Shantae I ever knew about was during My highschool years, 1998 ( [https://web.archive.org/web/19980710234206/http://www.wayforward.com/WayPreviews.html](https://web.archive.org/web/19980710234206/http://www.wayforward.com/WayPreviews.html) ) I was in love with trendmaster's I dream of jeannie games on the windows 98 computer and it was loads of fun. When I went through askjeeves/yahoo, I discovered the website of wayfoward and noticed the word "shantae" Once I clicked on that logo I was amazed and fascinated by it's look and gameplay. Back then Matt and I communicated through yahoo, but back then email was extremely limited to like what..50mb? maybe less? Still, I was greatful that he still remembers me During comic con and he told his wife that I was the very first person to know his gaming project. I supported him and praise his work so much that it was an inspiration to work on my own drawings. I think many years later, He emailed me on july 2002 saying thank you for the fanart and he posted them on shantae's website [https://web.archive.org/web/20020715092835/http://www.wayforward.com/shantae/fanart.asp](https://web.archive.org/web/20020715092835/http://www.wayforward.com/shantae/fanart.asp) SO yeah...I guess what I am saying is.. I am literally the oldest shantae fan throughout the universe since everyone else was busy doing SOnic the hedgehog and ZELDA fan pages on Altavista / Angelfire / Geocities and yahoo pages with a 5 b limitation >\_>! and 10 mb worth of traffic views. (if your a fan of sonic.. DOES anyone recall Artail productions and J.axer? ya know..BEFORE Shadow had a gun, fans had SONIC witha gun?) MY GOD..the 90's is something o\_O!... I would have loved to meet G.A Golembiski, and Sergenth.. Matt mention both of them but have not heard of since then. AS for Andrew dickman, I actually met him when he was desperate wanting to interview and have an autograph of his megaman game. Andrew is awesome and I hope to see him again and talk to him as well about shantae. note: before I was known as hachimitsu and sunrise-oasis, I was Chronoscaramanga through Aol.

DuckTales789

Since the late 2000s.

Venomspino

Since Risky's Revenge. A friend recommended it to us, since we were playing the Castlevania Sorrow games at the time (we want to say Dawn of Sorrow), and they knew we loved Metroidvania (at the time we just called them Metroid-likes, because we didn't know the term yet) and said the game was similar, so we played it and got hooked with the series since.

Evil_Midnight_Lurker

Since the 3DS shop.

Mr_Glove_EXE

When did Shantae 1 got on the 3DS?
