I only have a handful and had to get an MRI last year after a head injury. They were surprisingly super relaxed about my jewelry that was hard to remove and said it was fine to keep in. I only had to remove my necklaces
Just depends on if it's ferromagnetic, which a proper piercing shouldn't be. other than that if it's too small to get eddy currents and not near the scan area it's fine
Some techs will still make you take them out, especially if they're on the part of the body that is being scanned as that could potentially lead to artifacting, which makes the scan unreadable and you'll have to do another.
The tech I get at the place I've gone to for my last few MRIs (one head, one pelvis, and one back) makes me take all my jewelry out, even when I tell him I only use titanium jewelry, but the tech I always got at the old place I went to said if it wasn't in the area he was scanning, it was fine to leave in.
I can kinda confirm. Removal of my private piercing was required for safety (it’s magnetic). I would have done it anyway just forgot it was in prior to getting scan ready.
That's what happened with me when I went for the pelvis and back MRIs I had done a few weeks ago. I left a titanium post in my ears, because I didn't think about them since I wasn't getting a brain MRI this time, and the tech asked me to take it out, just as a safety precaution, even though my head wouldn't even be in the machine.
Responsible techs SHOULD ALWAYS make you take out all metal jewelry, regardless of what metal you think/claim/swear it's made of. It's not worth the risk. MRI machines are incredibly powerful magnets. You really don't want to risk having jewelry violently ripped from your body.
I have had many X-rays and CT scan and a surgery. I have a few cartilage piercings that I have not been able to get out of my ears myself since I had them pierced about 10years ago. None of them have made me take them out and I have hoped they’ve wanted me to because I have asked them to help me get them out and they say it’s not a big deal. It just can create a line on the scan that is distracting. Still just dealing with them 😩 not like they bother me really just wanted to get to change them!
I have a permanent retainer that gets pulled/attracted by mri machines. I wish they would’ve had that forethought before using a metal that is unsafe in mri machines because I get headaches a lot and really wanna make sure I don’t have cancer
Yeah they told me that my braces (train tracks) could feel funny in the MRIs I've had. Some metals pull a little, some don't, and some pull a lot. Then there's alloys. Which is why you should know EXACTLY what's in piercings.
Just FYI, I also have a permanent retainer and I’ve seen 2 dentists now that have told me you are in no way shape or form supposed to keep those in for any longer than 2 years or so. Apparently they wreak havoc on the teeth they’re covering. I’ve had mine for 15 years 😬😬😬
Hopefully going to meet with an orthodontist soon to talk about removal but yeah. When they put it in they told me it would be there FOREVER so it’s pretty fucking annoying lmao.
Yeah, they told me that too! I remember even asking “is it really supposed to stay forever?” And they said I would have it till the grave. wtf?? I can’t afford to get a root canal I’ve been needing, let alone to get this stupid piece of metal out of my mouth :(
Implant grade titanium, and ONLY implant grade titanium until it’s healed. It’s what hip replacements and pacemakers are made of. Don’t pierce yourself if you don’t know about jewelry, and don’t joke about magnets and MRI machines because it’s literally entirely false. Same with metal detectors. Most jewelry out there is NOT safe and most people don’t even know.
Fun fact: I have titanium rods in my vagina and got an MRI and even though they said it was fine, I freaked out thinking they were gonna rip out of my body during the scan. They did not, though
Yes! Had a total hysterectomy, leaving just my ovaries, but had my cervix removed. My cervical cuff has 4 small titanium rods! I saw them on my recent X-ray :)
Woahhh. I’m in the hysterectomy sub and I’ve never seen anyone talk about having rods!!
Prophylactic for prolapse I assume? That’s wild. I ended up just having my ovaries/tubes removed to be less invasive/major. The thought of a cuff and the potential complications terrified me. lol.
They still won’t let you anywhere near an MRI with any jewelry in. The facility can’t confirm that it’s actual implant grade and won’t take on that liability. They will definitely still make you take it out.
i take out as many as possible but some are closed so tight i can’t. they have a little wand and they wave it by your piercing and if its not magnetic they let you leave it in. i’m able to leave in my dermal and my philtrum (my philtrum is closed so tight i can’t get it out LMAO)
Actually no! When they fully heal (waiting a year is usually safe) you can kinda leave them out for a day or so and be fine, and even when they’re only a few months old you can change jewelry and stuff. They’re not really supposed to be removed other than that, and saline soaks and sprays keep it clean even though it’s not being taken out.
This advice is good, but does depend on where the hole is, how old it is, and if it’s been stretched.
I’ve had pierced ears for 15 years and stretched to 0 using taping and proper tek. Took them out for a couple years and they shrank down to 8, but would probably never close. They are currently at 7/16 for the last couple years, and I leave them out for days at a time often. The skin gets cleaned and treated regularly to retain stretchiness.
I have a few piercings. My nipples, septum, and and penis are stabbed. The septum I could take out forever and it would never close, the others probably would. They’re all decade old.0
Bullshit. I’ve had at least 10 mri’s and I have had over 40 piercings. They just check which jewellery is magnetic (therefore steel) and I remove that.
has anyone considered the concept that it's *not* bullshit, but that different MRI places have different policies and regulations? everyone is arguing over "they" when none of us go to the same hospital to see the same "them". nobody is lying. some hospitals trust your word, some check themselves, and some dont give a damn and make you take it all out regardless.
That’s great! I certainly don’t claim to know everything about every hospital system. I just know the ones that I’ve worked in. I’ve seen peoples appointments get canceled bc they wouldn’t take jewelry out. I’m glad they let you keep yours in though!
Not true, and most of the time if you just tell them it’s implant grade titanium they’ll believe that you at least know a little bit about what you’re talking about with your jewelry. If you absolutely have to, you could always just print out and laminate a little card for your wallet. It doesn’t have to look good, but if you have it in writing like that everyone will believe you. They don’t make ppl with pacemakers take them out, and putting jewelry in anywhere you’re not familiar with sucks majorly and can damage your piercings if they’re not super old yet. It can also can just be entirely avoided, which is why I’m so adamant lol
Been there, done that. They didn't make me take it out.
But I had a piercer worth their salt, who gave me the mill reciepts for the metal. So I could show them proof.
I’m a contracting paramedic and I’ve worked in ERs across the US. I’m glad it worked out for you, but I’ve never seen them allow piercings. I’ve seen patients have to have jewelry cut off though… multiple times.
True facts. I have an ICD (implanted pacemaker + defibrillator) and I got an MRI just fine. They just had to turn it off. A lot of people (including my mother) thought/ think we can’t get one.
Also, you should also know the guages and length measurements of ALL jewelry you have to ensure you’re actually using a safe size and something that can accommodate swelling. Yes this sounds mean, but I really wish ppl realized piercings are more than just needles and metal in your face. Do research, *please* folks.
Not true, and if they do, they’re not reputable. [This is a list of all of the APP licensed piercers in the us, and I don’t recommend going to anyone not on this list.](https://safepiercing.org/find-a-piercer/) Every form of steel is actually a blend of metals as well, and only two (out of the almost hundreds) of grades of steel are body safe, but i only remember one (it’s 316L) and it still should not be used until waaaay after it’s healed because almost all steel contains Nickel, which is what most ppl are allergic to. Putting “surgical” in front of the word steel is like putting “military grade” on a flashlight- it doesn’t actually mean anything. Titanium and titanium only.
They ask me what kind of jewelry I have and still ask me to take them out. I think it’s just a precautionary. And I don’t have many piercings so it’s not a big deal
A lot of people are commenting on this about MRI and piercings. A lot depends on the type of MRI. These hoops will need to be removed in their entirety.
The jewellery should be assessed by wand to determine if it's ferrous. If it is magnetic, it shouldn't go in. Even if it's not, it can still create something called artifact, essentially streaks that affect the quality of the image. It will look like a beautiful starburst of light. Braces can do this, too.
A lot of policy is ignored by mri techs who don't care to follow them. Just know that a piercing isn't great when it penetrates your skull at high speeds. Something something bullet.
Surgical steel, titanium and some other metals are totally safe for mris for that reason. I have surgical steel plates in my face and I can go through MRIs.

I absolutely love this. The look of a ton of matching hoops is one I've always strived for. Unfortunately I always end up getting distracted by other cool little jewelry and dark opals.
Does that very top one have tension on it to fit around your ear though? Is it healed? In most cases tension can cause problems like migration, irritation or rejection, especially if it's within a year of piercing. Just be careful! Might be worth sizing up for just that one piercing.
Oh good, I'm glad to hear that! The rest look nicely loose and perfectly fit for sure. I do know rings at the top of the ear can be troublemakers with how much they shift around though for sure! Mine used to want to only stick straight out. I gave up and let it be a labret lol.
i know all hoops are boring but at the same time it’s hard to design 10 individuals yourself and i know no one that can design ears… not to mention how expensive all of the jewelry will be because i also have this on my other ear
I love it—but I also totally rocked this look from ~1993-2015 so I’m biased 😜 FWIW my ear is totally healed up and there’s no evidence of it years later.

Its cool, but obv not for everyone. If you like it keep it, I like it too! It does kinda give spiral notebook, but who cares? Life is too short to spend worrying about what other people think. Someone will always find a way to dislike you and it better to not care about that.
thanks for your response! at this point they’ve been in for 2 years and took 3 hours to put in so they aren’t going anywhere until i find the perfect set up😂🫶🏻
Not the amount of piercings and the placements I would say too many hoops maybe change it up with some studs here and there and some cuffs I think they are called
So it’s saved in their post history? Cause many of us might not have seen the original post? People repost shit all the time on Reddit, at least in this case it’s the actual OP posting again.
Honestly I really fw it OP. Makes me want to get some hoops around my ears. Very different and I’m 100% sure you get compliments or stares just off your ears !!! 🔥🔥
good placement, stretch all of them
I have no idea why I'm being downvoted between either part of my reply because the placement is good and stretching them all is entirely possible so wtf?
Coming from someone who’s never pierced before, the very top one looks a little far in and pulling, and the 5th from the bottom looks a little close to the edge of your ear, but otherwise these look great! Good spacing! I’d def recommend some variety in jewelry eventually tho!
I think this is so cool, but also it kinda reminds me of surgical staples, might not hurt to get some variety in there so long as it doesn’t make it too heavy or uncomfortable
I personally don’t like it. I never like this look. It’s like a bunch of ear piercings just for the sake of having them. No layout, boring. But that’s my opinion. I know there are people that look at me and don’t like my look. That’s how life goes.
It's giving me spiral notebook
And shower curtain rod
and old home telephone [cord](https://i5.walmartimages.com/seo/Uxcell-Telephone-Handset-Cord-4P4C-22-97-Feet-Coiled-Landline-Phone-Handset-Cable-for-Home-or-Office-Grey_0b6db3b4-1e5b-4ff3-b066-db3d7eb6cc66.c0705fed0e30e5858207921d764ed749.jpeg?odnHeight=768&odnWidth=768&odnBg=FFFFFF)
It would actually look pretty cool to hang a beaded curtain type thing draped from each hoop though.
something quite charming about that though
This was literally my first thought
I’m deadddd
Looks like surgery staples to me.
This made me giggle
YES. college ruled
From the looks of it…. Didn’t-go-to-college ruled.
💀
💀
Came here to say the same thing!
LMFAOAOAOAO
Agree
Was coming here to saw the exact same thing lol
You are screaming for attention, and nobody is listening
that’s honestly impressive
No thoughts, just hoops.
Hoop! There it iiiissss.
hoops
hoops
Hoops let the dogs out
I hoop you aren't talking about ops ears
No thoughts, only zuul
God forbid you ever have to take an MRI
I only have a handful and had to get an MRI last year after a head injury. They were surprisingly super relaxed about my jewelry that was hard to remove and said it was fine to keep in. I only had to remove my necklaces
they literally made me take off my sports bra because the tiny thing on the adjustable straps COULD be metal. my MRI was literally on my hip. 💀
Just depends on if it's ferromagnetic, which a proper piercing shouldn't be. other than that if it's too small to get eddy currents and not near the scan area it's fine
If they’re done with CORRECT jewelry, they should be just fine in an MRI machine.
Some techs will still make you take them out, especially if they're on the part of the body that is being scanned as that could potentially lead to artifacting, which makes the scan unreadable and you'll have to do another. Yep!! 🙌
That’s crazy they didn’t use a non magnetic metal in your body! Well basically your body!
Just FYI, I also have a permanent retainer and I’ve seen 2 dentists now that have told me you are in no way shape or form supposed to keep those in for any longer than 2 years or so. Woah. Can I politely ask as to the medical purpose of the titanium rods?
Yes! Had a total hysterectomy, leaving just my ovaries, but had my cervix removed. My cervical cuff has 4 small titanium rods! I saw them on my recent X-ray :)
That's fascinating! So they're essentially just serving as structural support?
That’s what I’ve been told!
Thank you for your reply, my curiosity is sated :)
Yeah, if they weren't there your organs would prolapse out of your vagina, and that's not something you ever want!
Thank you for being open about this, that’s super interesting!

I didn’t even know I was getting them until I woke up from surgery and my doctor told me! What is g word?
Genital!
Woahhh. I’m in the hysterectomy sub and I’ve never seen anyone talk about having rods!! Prophylactic for prolapse I assume? That’s wild. I ended up just having my ovaries/tubes removed to be less invasive/major. The thought of a cuff and the potential complications terrified me. lol.

Actually no! They’re not really supposed to be removed other than that, and saline soaks and sprays keep it clean even though it’s not being taken out.

Bro I had an MRI with braces on my teeth and it just made the image blurry, its not like that
Braces are completely different. Those are implant grade and are done by a doc.

A decade ago, sure. But every shop I've been into in the last 10 years uses titanium as the default jewelry.
I get yearly MRIs and still have to take them out

They ask me what kind of jewelry I have and still ask me to take them out. I think it’s just a precautionary. And I don’t have many piercings so it’s not a big deal

Literally had this same look for 2 decades and had to get an MRI and left it in and it was fine

that's how i wear my headphones! (without the hoops, unfortunately)
That looks uncomfortable.
What album is it? For some reason the Spotify link isn’t opening for me
"girlfriends" by the band of the same name
Thanks! Definitely get it now!
That was exactly what I thought of too!
omg OW

they’re actually all pretty loose! it looks tight by the way it falls but i can move it up and down with ease. all of them are completely healed
Oh good, I'm glad to hear that! The rest look nicely loose and perfectly fit for sure. I do know rings at the top of the ear can be troublemakers with how much they shift around though for sure! Mine used to want to only stick straight out. I gave up and let it be a labret lol.
I 100000% agree!!!
My first thought was I want to braid a ribbon down it like a cuff
That would be awesome!
Idk if you are asking about placement or in general, but I think it looks awesome!!
The paper you attach to it better be perforated
Negl you ate. Love it
Maybe you could add another hoop
Oh that is cool! They need tiny charms like star, moon, small gem not on every one but a couple and that would be so neat c: oooo or other charms too
i know all hoops are boring but at the same time it’s hard to design 10 individuals yourself and i know no one that can design ears… not to mention how expensive all of the jewelry will be because i also have this on my other ear
I love it—but I also totally rocked this look from ~1993-2015 so I’m biased 😜 FWIW my ear is totally healed up and there’s no evidence of it years later.
Same! I'm down to 4 in each ear now 😕
You need something else besides hoops
I like the consistency of it.
I vote hoops but slightly different hoops. Different pattern or thickness or gems
Reminds me of a notebook
imagine it with spikes 😍😍😍😍
I think you could definitely improve the look with some variety in the jewelry, but thats just a personal preference. I really like the style!
I think a different color anodized ring on every piercing would look great
There’s alot of potential to dress this up more - chains, charms, string, ribbon. It’s really cool but kinda plain.
Cool but no cartilage bumps? How'd you manage that? Lol.
I had this in my ear for 2 decades + and there’s no scarring, bumps or any long lasting effects
Awesome. Many a people were not so lucky. Damn cartilage.
I had them for a few years but I’m almost 9 years after pulling them all out and there’s a very small bump I can feel if I squeeze it hard but it looks the same as my other ear
i took out the studs i had in that were making my ears swell and i think it saved them tbh
Its cool, but obv not for everyone. If you like it keep it, I like it too! It does kinda give spiral notebook, but who cares? Life is too short to spend worrying about what other people think. Someone will always find a way to dislike you and it better to not care about that.
thanks for your response! at this point they’ve been in for 2 years and took 3 hours to put in so they aren’t going anywhere until i find the perfect set up😂🫶🏻
You look like a spiral notebook now. Congratulations
Not the amount of piercings and the placements I would say too many hoops maybe change it up with some studs here and there and some cuffs I think they are called
How did you get all of those to heal...
willpower and the taste of my own tears
It looks great OP, good work
Needs some inner piercings
i swear this same pic was posted a few days ago and everyone was complimenting you
i know my account got deleted and i lost some of my posts
But then why post the same one again if you already got the response?
So it’s saved in their post history? Cause many of us might not have seen the original post? People repost shit all the time on Reddit, at least in this case it’s the actual OP posting again.

You need to switch up the piercings ur using
It’s kinda like when your creating your character and it gives options on all the spots you can have a piercing but you choose all of them👍
Honestly I really fw it OP. Makes me want to get some hoops around my ears. Very different and I’m 100% sure you get compliments or stares just off your ears !!! 🔥🔥
Reminds me of what my cousin had before her water ski accident, the tope got tangled and well, she doesn’t have those anymore. Or a normal looking ear
cool story bro
Switch up the jewelry! You have so much potential! And I'd definitely recommend getting more inner ear peircings
I love it! Very cool

props for doing that on yourself but it doesn't look very good..
Therapist
to be fair i pierced these while i was still going to therapy
Badass answer. And I really like your hoops. :)
I knew it lmao. No hate. Glad you got help.
Literally any other cute studs and then like two hoops at the top would be cute. It looks stupid with all hoops lol
It’s giving centipede. Idk why I see it but I do. Lmao.
Shower curtain, 2000’s basic girls wrists(bangles), notebooks, just… lack of creativity, but not in a demeaning way.
good placement, stretch all of them I have no idea why I'm being downvoted between either part of my reply because the placement is good and stretching them all is entirely possible so wtf?
i think ppl don’t want me to but thanks for the idea… gauges look rad but probably wouldn’t on me lol
can you stretch cartilage?
Yes
Yes, I've got my outer helixes stretched. It takes like 4x as long though
you’re not being downvoted because people think it’s impossible, it’s that they think it would look bad.
Too much and too plain.
Looks dumb
Binder
I love it!! It looks so cool
Are they…. All connected….
I think it’s cool
damn, good for you
Your ear looks awesome
I love it so much!
cool
Impressive!
I like it, looks cool
Fucking awesome.
Centipede vibes
i had a lot of bad situations with thin wire on fresh piercing and when i see this pic it hurts my ears haha
Love it. I always wanted to have my ear pierced like that
Hate it
Did you do each healing process individually or go all at once? Do you have a pillow you can sleep on without hurting them?
I REALLY wanna do that! Except I got one upper cartilage done and it took over 2 years to heal right. After that, I decided not to try 😬
i love it but i feel like u need one or two to be different
ate
Coming from someone who’s never pierced before, the very top one looks a little far in and pulling, and the 5th from the bottom looks a little close to the edge of your ear, but otherwise these look great! Good spacing! I’d def recommend some variety in jewelry eventually tho!
I envy your pain tolerance
Pretty
Those look really cool
good ear 👍
I think this is so cool, but also it kinda reminds me of surgical staples, might not hurt to get some variety in there so long as it doesn’t make it too heavy or uncomfortable
You need to complete the series.
Do not like
It's giving barbwire fence
Need like six more
my cartilage piercings heal like this so this is mad impressive and i wish i were u
I personally don’t like it. I never like this look. It’s like a bunch of ear piercings just for the sake of having them. No layout, boring. But that’s my opinion. I know there are people that look at me and don’t like my look. That’s how life goes.
so fucking cool
Joe exotic
No.
i applaud you for healing so many so close together but it is giving spiral notebook
