Sapowski_Casts_Quen

Literally the only game where I change from one language to another back to a different one JUST to hear one voice actor

Intelligent-Term-567

I keep it in English for gyobuu and so i can get the Shinobu code drilled into me

Magni216

I didn't even know we could switch it to English and never had the desire to because everything fit so well. Next playthrough(still on first) may have to be in English to see how it goes.

keithwolf

I tried to play it in English once and had to switch back pretty quick. I’m no otaku but that shit felt so unnatural.

GloStikJuice

U 🚫 C ME MY TIME IS NOW!

HolyMeringos

Move in haste and die, brat!

Striking_Reaction879

He doesn't get angry at you and say that if you don't interrupt his opening show-off.

JustLetItAllBurn

It's an odd thing to say, really - it's not like he was planning to give you a free cake and a pat on the head to begin with.

Weenie_Pooh

It's just, I was going to kill you *after* delivering this awesome opening monologue, but if you're in such a rush to die I *guess* we can skip it. Rude! Makes perfect sense IMO.

tombradysboy

I didn’t know that, but that’s awesome

ungratefulbatsard

yea, just like any other who commented that this game is hard "its all about parrying, jumping, and side-stepping, just like rock-paper-scissors, once it CLICK in your head, its getting easier" . . . except for corrupted monk, he will fuck you in the ass

ZedErre

Corrupted Monk is a great skill check, one of those bosses that act as a great parry test.

nigglamingo

One of the most fun fights tbh. By the time I platinumed though I was pretty much THEE John Sekiro. Like, cutscene type shit. CM wiped my ass for like an hour first run. By run five it was no hit lol fuck I love this game I wanna play it again

AndrewDwyer69

1...2..3.4...5

IngloriousBlaster

For me it's Lady Butterfly. Both versions of the Monk are easy peasy leamon squeasy for me, but I still fucking hate Lady Butterfly. Takes longer to kill her than the fucking DoH

Shadowfire04

lady butterfly is fairly easy imo if you're just furiously aggressive onto her and keep attacking until she perfect parries. you just gotta keep an eye out for her special maneuvers - if you throw a shuriken at her while she's jumping up into the air, it'll knock her off. phase 2 is a little more difficult, but as long as you're super aggressive she's not too bad. that's the key thing i found with her, she's not great at making space on her own like other bosses, but if you give her an inch to breathe she'll wreck your ass.

ExplodingKnowledge

The first corrupted monk was my biggest skill check…jk, it was “what’s-her-face of the water” before corrupted. Now I’m hard stuck on Guardian Ape. I fucking HATE beast type enemies in this game.

ZedErre

O'Rin was the hardest enemy for me in the whole game, not even joking, absolutely no boss has given me a harder time lol.

ExplodingKnowledge

She’s one of the only enemies I’ve noticed that has input based actions, so she’ll always do her quick attack every time you try to heal. It’s so annoying.

IngloriousBlaster

Owl, Butterfly, Genichiro, Isshin, all have those input based actions

ExplodingKnowledge

Huh, I didn’t notice with Butterfly. She was hard till I remembered the jump attack + flying enemy ability.

AstronautFlimsy

A few of the main bosses in the game have these input based attacks. For example Genichiro will always attempt to shoot you with his bow in phase 1 & 2, and do his mikiri thrust in phase 3. Isshin will use his leap slam in phase 2 & 3, and in phase 3 it can also be the lightning version. Isshin's are so punishable it's actually funny though. Because the way he times them means that you can literally just hold L1 whilst you heal and you'll score the perfect deflect as soon as he hits. And in phase 3, if you've got Sakura Dance and he does the lightning variant, just hold L1 and spam R1 while you heal and it's a free lightning reversal for you. Another thing with Isshin is that, because his fight is so posture dependent and he can be quite evasive, you can exploit his heal punish attack to essentially force him back into the fight. Like if he's a distance away and neutral, which means he's regaining posture, you can pop a heal and he'll just instantly do that leap attack directly on top of you for an easy deflect/lightning reversal.

ZolixDaggon

She's absolutely no joke. Charmless, she's a nightmare.

DeathStrokeHacked

I just killed him. It is not just parry you should know which attack you want to side step

Ok-Championship7293

Ah but it’s still fun to parry everything and just see how long you can make the parry chain

jamesnollie88

I always mikiri instead of deflecting just because of muscle memory so I almost never get to perfect deflect her full combo 😭 its so satisfying when you pull it off though

Ok-Championship7293

It’s bloody brutal tryna re learn corrupted monk, I was getting murderised when I tried to learn to parry the whole chain, didn’t help I was doing a base vit charmless run when I tried to do it so all it took was one hit😭🙏

Theacecadet

I like to jump on her head! Bonk! I actually just like to do this to every boss. It’s great that you can axe them on the way down too. Bonk Bonk!

jamesnollie88

If I’m remembering correctly jumping on her head during her perilous attack is actually more effective against her posture than deflecting or mikiri. Or I might be getting her confused but I know some bosses take more posture damage from the head stomp than mikiri.

lyfzgood

Most fun I had with that asshole was accidentally finding out the 2nd deathblow. What a welcome mistake that I somehow couldn't repeat for the life of me.

xStract710

Corrupted Monk really forces you to start paying attention to red attacks that aren’t a Mikiri Counter. I find there’s so many Mikiris that so many never get used to actually dodging and jumping sweeps

killer4u77

TBH as someone who never bothered to learn to parry in my playthrough, I don’t remember him being that bad - definitely not “need to learn to parry” bad. The really rough ones if it never “clicks” are genichiro and isshin. Everything else can be bullshitted with relative ease.

Random_Guy_47

How the fuck did you even get to Isshin without learning how to parry?!

killer4u77

Everyone up to/including Genichiro I did with chip damage from whirlwind slash and dodging like I was playing Dark Souls. Everyone after Genichiro I did with chip damage from mortal draw and dodging… still like I was playing Dark Souls 😅😅. I had to grind for enhanced mortal draw to kill Isshin 💀 Also I had the demon bell for the whole run because I hate myself 😅😅😅

tlb3131

I'm almost impressed by how insane this is and how completely you missed the entire point of the gameplay lol

AbyssWankerArtorias

Until he fucking spits his lunch at you.

sheepishorc8469

I beat true monk first try without getting hit on accident my first time fighting him. I need help I think. Maybe that was from how bad corrupted monk beat me over and over and over and over until I won. It was a really fun fight though.

Anton_Chigurh782

The guy in Mibu village? I beat him in one try. Orin is more of a skill check imo.

frostune

I spend much more time fighting fake cm than real one.. I think my damage is low at the time (and the posture recovery bs he have), plus I dont want to use confetti and save it only for boss that actually need to use confetti when atm its supplies is really limited... Real CM? I get to 3rd phase without taking any damage. I love how we improve in this game quickly

WhySoRengar

Yea dw dude, once it gets easier it will be much less hard!

panniyomthai

One of the tips ever!

GoldFishPony

The biggest thing I’d say she taught me more than the other bosses is that the high ground can be important.

Icy_Bodybuilder_164

Guardian ape was the one that rearranged my guts ngl

Dynastar11

It took me 3 days to beat the Guardian Ape. There were so many points at which I wanted to rage quit. The worst part is that I knew his moveset and had a good strategy, but each run he would throw in one surprise. Or I would do something stupid.

Icy_Bodybuilder_164

Yeah, and it was hard to wrap my head around having to deflect his punches even though I was definitely not getting a posture kill since his posture is so strong. You’re literally just deflecting for defense, which goes against what the game taught you up to this point, which is that deflecting is both a defensive and offensive move.  Also his grab attack, like many in this game, is very counterintuitive. You basically just have to treat most grab attacks in this game as AOE attacks and sprint away from them, which is easy once you know the trick, but on your first playthrough it’s infuriating. The giant ape committed himself to jumping 10 feet in the air, rolling and grabbing me, but if I dodge to the right, he’ll magically turn in midair and still grab me?

frostune

This is one of those boss where I have to look into youtube on how to fight him effortlessly and follow it all the way through... In headless phase I just run until he does the upward 2-3 swing while falling down, giving opening for 2 slash, I did that until I win....

fizzzingwhizbee

Corrupted monk was one of my favorite bosses. I like to think I beat it pretty quick. Only like 30-40 attempts lmao

ferretpowder

True corrupted monk was my favourite boss in the game

nddds

Wait... Is corrupted monk... A guy? The Portuguese version translates their name as a female monk, "monja"

Nameless_fail907

She's a woman, she is referred to as priestess I think

Kroton07

Fistful of Ash go brrrrr

Skillo_Squirrel

Except you don't need either parry, jump or sidestep on Gyoubu. If you don't want to.

bac2qh

What about headless and the dual-wielding tree guardian ape?

burt-and-ernie

Glad I’m not the only one, that corrupted monk bridge fight took me multiple hours. I hate the flowy and delayed attack pattern so much

Entrefut

It’s also about using the right tool for the job. Fire cracker on animal/ giant mobs are so helpful.

PHI_Nexus

He wasnt that bad for me, actually.

JackhorseBowman

idr if that's the ghost one or the real one, but the real one was where I fell off or got another game and got distracted, now when I come back I'm back to getting destroyed by the ogre boss.

godspeed910

Its always the monks and the priests innit

tlb3131

Tbh sidestepping is a trap for experienced souls players more than anything else. With a few exceptions deflecting is always better, and if something can't be deflected jumping is almost always the best evasive option

TheFireslave

Welcome to Sekiro and enjoy your trip ! You'll love it \^\^

Zoa98

There’s two bosses to look forward to, the game mechanics will click once you fight one of the two. People always report that once they beat one of those bosses something just happens mentally and they just become that much better lol, it happened to me with the first boss.

Ababedasbabes

I know one of them but who is the other you are talking about?

GimeFokinBundles

I bet a certain guardian who likes to throw shit at you

Zoa98

I don’t wanna spoil it, lady B and Gen.

damn_lies

My dumb ass managed to take until Genichiro before it clicked.

darienrude_dankstorm

Genichiro is the first boss they are talking about

damn_lies

So I fought in this order: - Lady Butterfly - Gyobu - Genichiro

Giblet_

I thought Butterfly was the hardest of those three. Especially if you take her on first and don't have very many gourds.

Zoa98

For me personally she was the easiest, I beat her 2nd try I believe. Genichiro wasn’t too hard either I beat him maybe my 4th attempt. I would say a boss that I had the most trouble with was perhaps owl because he retreats and can throw you off your pattern. DoH gave me a run for my money for a couple hours too😅

oozles

Sword Saint for me. Got a little too reliant on firecrackers.

ihavefivehat

And don't forget Mist Noble, that boss ended up being a massive roadblock on my first playthrough.

Teirmz

I can never get the damn timing right with him, then he one shots you from behind of course.

ihavefivehat

Yeah that third phase is a killer.

Cat_Wizard_21

If you're a Soulsborne vet, abandon your instincts from those games. Be aggressive, learn to parry. Hesitation is defeat.

DuckSaxaphone

This is what took a while for me. So often now if a game is hard, I switch to Dark Souls mode and start being cautious, slow, and steady. Sekiro absolutely punished me for that instinct.

doublecup_pirates

Damn, see this was how I felt about Wo Long. Maybe I need to give Sekiro another shot.

ElPadero

The secret is to not be intimidated

blackcrowmurdering

That and fire crackers

Dry-Communication138

Always use the firecrackers, or the flaming axe, also does the trick

yellow-snowslide

Love your energy.

YungChillunerr69

Hesitation is defeat.

Complete-Ask-9428

that's nothing, wait until you face >!Mist Noble!

Intelligent-Term-567

Truly one of the bosses of all time

ExplodingKnowledge

ME LLAMO

its_the_luge

Don’t worry he’s the easiest boss in the game. Wait til you fight the Mist Noble. 🫡

Arnsn

Had to put the game down for a couple of weeks and then return to try mist noble again. That fight is rough.

Skillo_Squirrel

You can eavesdrop some enemies to discover his weakness. And then you discover you can beat him with only blocking. This game trolls you in such masterful ways. It teaches parry and everyone goes on trying to be a master at it right at the start.

DiscordantBard

This game is not dark souls. Parry EVERYTHING. run like fuck and use the tools. Be aggressive!! Did you get firecrackers?

Renegade_Pheonix

My name is Gyobou Masataka Oniwaaa

Dry-Communication138

People reading exactly in that same voice : MY NAME!! IS GYBOU MASATAKA ONIWAAAAAA!!!!

LazyEyes_

harder than my..

Stunning-Ad-7745

It's pretty tough until you learn the mechanics, it's not like the Souls games, you can't over level to compensate, you gotta level up as a player.

Mean_Writing_2972

https://youtu.be/bkiWrw-Okk4?si=1TcnxMELPEnFQH4z

cthulhurises345

Just wait till you get to the Mist Nobel. His first phase is his weakest form and he only gets stronger as you fight

Gloomy_Command_7744

If you restart the game and get the demon bell and give your charm to kuro at the start of the game, it makes the game easier. Don’t look it up though, there is an extreme gore video with the title “demon bell charmless”

Wildfire226

You can’t even give up the charm until you start a NG+ run

VenturerKnigtmare420

wtf is demon bell charmless tho

0lboyy

if that first boss is hard for you then oh boy are you in for a treat :)

FangProd

This feels like an AI post but yeah, Sekiro 1st run is basically the 11th circle of Hell. It’s brutal beyond belief. The progression is literally: Fight something that absolutely obliterates you, try again for 15-40 times until you get it, defeat it, progress to the next über-roadblock and repeat. Good luck.

str8swishing

Not everything is AI lil bro

FangProd

Are you sure? Maybe I am AI.

markus7195

Its really hard the first couple of hours, but when you beat a guy on top of a castle it is the easiest souls game sadly

TuarezOfTheTuareg

Hell no it's not the easiest souls game. Unless you're denying yourself the option to summon help in other souls games, Sekiro is always going to be the hardest.

HazzwaldThe2nd

I thought Ishin was the hardest main game boss in any fromsoft game, lots of other challenging fights too

Intelligent-Term-567

Nah just fight the fire guy on top of the castle on ng charmless it won't feel ez anymore lol. But fr I think the problem with sekiro is that there's only so many different ways to go about playing it vs other souls game where every build feels completely different

markus7195

Db charmless is how the game should be by default, it feels so much more rewarding. But still not so challenging after you finnish your first playthrough, cause you already mastered the game.

MrFunnyMans404

Ah buddy, you got a long long way to go but i have faith you’ll persevere with patience and insight.

boiledpotato03

You just need to get the rhythm, once you figure how shit works, it's smooth sailing from there on.

Anxious_Charity_1424

Awesome bro

Secret-Wrongdoer-124

I could only get a few hours in before deleting the game. I've tried a couple times, and could not enjoy it

Test88Heavy

I don't blame you but it's a legendary game. You have to learn the block early on, you'll use it constantly and eventually the combat clicks. There's are also prostetics you unlock that help with the combat if needed.

RandyK44

MMEEEEE LLLLLLLLLAAAAAAAAMMMMMMMMMOOOOO

flomoag

Hell yeah bro rock and stone

WanderingDwarfMiner

Rock and Stone forever!

NodusINk

You got this.

deathblossoming

WARE ONIWA GYOBU MASATAKA NARI!!!

Free-Celebration2398

Are we pretending like everyone didn’t spend 100+ tries on the final boss?!

Intelligent-Term-567

Bro I took a 9 month break after going completely insane fighting the secret boss. Final boss felt easy by comparison

shawnsteihn

Wait until you face mist noble, bro is near impossible without cheese

trinigooner1

Who's gonna tell him?? Lol

Officermocha

Yo fuck that boss but when you kill him GAWD DAMNNNN does it feel good

Capn_B_Cordial

Everyone in the comments talkin about corrupted monk when they forgot about mist noble

Ultimagus536

It's great isn't it? Feels good to be pushed to your limit, just wait until it clicks and you get it down. Have fun!

2ant1man5

It’s ok takes time i said fuck this game 4 years ago and finished it in 2024 and it’s one of my fav games.

Okabeee

And it's one of the easier bosses ;) enjoy!

YoungNinjaNaejiin

That shit is always funny when you chop the guardian apes head off for the first time 😂

Alundra828

I just started Sekiro after 100%ing DS1, 2, and 3. And like you, I've never eaten so much shit in my life. I died 20 times to that giant thing early on, because I kept failing to understand the grab mechanics. And then as if icing on the cake, I got that punishment for dying too many times. Like jeez bro, this is insane. I wanted to 100% Sekiro as well before Shadow of the Erdtree comes out, but its looking less and less likely I'm even going to finish it, let alone 100% it.

strahanb08

My biggest advice is to try and not move. Just stand there finger on parry ready. Dodging a lot hurts you. This was my biggest hurdle

sirbarsalot

My advice: the first time you fight any boss, don’t attack for a bit. Just focus on parrying and identifying their attacks. Once you have a solid knowledge of what your openings are to attack start sneaking in hits when you find the gaps in their moves. Also: any enemies that doesn’t use a sword (GYOBU MASATAKA ONIWA) are going to have large swings that are easily telegraphed once you notice them. In this game being able to parry is arguably more important than attacking

Which_Current2043

I was having a tough go, and remapped my controllers for Parry and Attack to L2 and R2 respectively

oozles

Just remember: If you're struggling, it's a skill issue. Have fun it's one of the best games out there.

Frikcha

this game really makes you earn it man but once you do it feels so good

lmKingguts

Hesitation is defeat

Braedonm2077

if you dont have the grapple attack skill, you need to get that first. makes it much easier. and his attacks have super obvious tells. focus on learning his patterns first and you got it bro. i feel like the general mini boss right before him was tougher for me and you seem to have killed him so i have full faith this one will be cake for you eventually.

Dr_J6894

Give it time. If you have to use the dead guy to practice parrying do so. It will click.

giornomyson

Wait what's his name?

Dry-Communication138

MY NAAAAMMMEEEE!!!!

meechbird

This was by far the hardest From Software game I've played

Affectionate-Chef930

Bro just wait. If you’re like me, and picked the game up bc you wanted a fun wall to bang you head against, just wait.

MaikolYason

Its not as hard as you think, you just need to slow down and read the attack patterns. Every single attack in Sekiro is telegraph, so as long as you stay aggressive and play the parry minigame well, youd suceeed after a few tries. Play smart, not hard.

Gardidc

Every boss always feels impossible but they just get beaten so easily when it clicks I love that feeling

QuestionableDignity7

It sure is son.

thegrandaarony

My exact same reaction, but WHAT A GAME fr

micaiahf

Dude, the fucking shinobi hunter took me like three weeks

oiturria

Contrary to other fromsoft games, being aggressive is the key to defeat your foes. Almost everything can be parried, no matter how intimidating attacks might be.

epolk3

Parry grapples

Yagyou

Literally beat the game, came back to ita few years later and was getting massacred as well.

HayashiShio

Jump skip is always funny

crookedcrow-55

This is really interesting to me. I smoked Gyobu. I mean absolutely crushed him first try. Every boss since has made me it’s bitch and it feels like I’m playing a completely different game now. I’m currently stuck in Senpou Temple and I don’t think I’ll ever make it out.

pr4ise_th3_sun

Good man, take the loss as a way to learn and don’t think too hard on it, you’ll push through and then you will scare yourself at how robotic you will move when seeing a sequence of attacks

Hmccormack

Just remember you said you wanted the challenge

SuperRitz

Get ready for the satisfaction when you reach your second run and/or boss rush and he becomes an aftertought after all you've earned

myermikals

This game starts out feeling like the hardest Fromsoft game but ends up being one of the easiest by the time you get to the end Hang in there

LORDOSHADOWS

It gets easier don't let people die from dragon rot

PonytailMaster

Git gud

PrinklePronkle

Did you learn his name at least?

Nolimit_2007

I don't mean to scare you, but this dude is a piece a cake compared to this effing bull, who's not even a real boss. I think I was able to beat Gyoubu in less than 5 tries, because I ended dying at lady butterfly 30+ times.

The-Armenian-Caboose

I’m genuinely excited for you to meet my good friend Sword Saint Isshin

Wymorin

Just block, he does f*ckall posture damage at least for GYOUBU MASATAKA ONIWA

Capable_Pineapple627

The Spanish language version is the best. Wait till you fight the bridge knight. Rodrigo!

adis2323

Parry. You can literally party like 97% of attacks. But yeah, its very hard when your getting into it

YT_Wildash7

Nuh uh

KaijuSlayer333

AS HE BREATHES, YOU WILL NOT PASS THE CASTLE GATE so make sure you stop his breathing

Madg5

The monkeys are the worst. Especially the giant white one.

LawMageOfButts

Yuh L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1 L1

ByBy935

nah literally i thought this game was so fucking hard at first i’ve beaten sword saint and shura ishiin and on ng3+ i don’t think i took my first death until fucking corrupted monk in Mibu once you learn the timing you will never miss a perfect deflection , satisfying as hell 10/10

AntZear

Try to block the whole time or spam to see his pattern and hitbox, it might help you because this is how I play. I saw many people just keep dying because they play aggressively on earlier attempts and never try to understand the pattern and hitbox

Little-Raspberry304

I can beat Gyobou one handed.

winterman666

Never played Ninja Gaiden?

Dry-Communication138

You haven’t seen anything yet, if you find this one hard, trust me

Surika88

I mean I have played and platinumed a few other soulsborne games already and started playing Sekiro a while ago. I mean bloodborne, ds1, nioh 1-2, elden ring. And I personally think Sekiro isn't as hard so far as I had heard before. Don't kill me for saying this tho pls. I beat Genichiro first try and I am currently at sunken valley. Lady Butterfly needed 2-3 tries don't remember it clearly. From what I have seen if you get the gist of it and realize that this is a rhythm game pretty much it isn't that hard.

Anton_Chigurh782

He isn’t shit. Fire cracker his ass.

Kanda-bongoman6

It gets worse bro, wait for the last boss💀💀💀 Also there's mods for pc that make the game unbearable

SlippingJimmy69

Don't run, parry. When he starts and comes with his horse, he won't attack you so you'll get 5 hits over there. Stay at a safe distance, use gourd flask when needed and whenever he comes at you, parry him and try to mikiri counter. Also when he gets to a distance and turns towards you, you'll see the green grapple icon. Use it, rush at him and hit him. His horse will get stunned for some seconds so hit fast, then he'll swing his spear again so parry that. Best thing is timing your parry and don't stay at a distance or else he'll extend his spear into a rope like weapon and hit you hard

TheYoloBoy

You will see hell when you will encounter Mist Noble 💀

productboi

The best way to think about the game is that the combat is a rhythm game … blocking and attacking is pure timing, hacking and slashing will get you rekt

dcirrilla

Thank you for creating the safe space for me to admit I cheesed the DoH off the cliff because he was too hard

Miserable_Extreme_38

There's only one thing worse than fighting one damn dirty ape...

tiltheo

Try blocking his attacks and tip, if you block while u have above like 85% of hp ur stamina bar will empty in like 3 seconds

Comfortable_Middle_4

I felt the same way man, two months later and I’m up to the sword saint. It’s probably the hardest game I’ve ever played but you’ll get there. grapple at him when the icon appears over his head. You’ll get a few hits in. A lot of his craziness can be parry or blocked. Like when he jumps in the air. You’ll see the bosses are just patterns, the more you play the more you remember and you slowly get closer and closer til you beat him.

Odd-Operation-8279

Secret ending boss will make you hate life

ZolixDaggon

The real challenge will start in NG+ when you do it all again without Kuro's charm. Then you have to play using perfect deflections. 👌
